I've always been interested in helping out at a soup kitchen, but never knew where to get started…read more The logical time for a full-time employee and mom of two young children would be to come with a group from church on a Saturday or Sunday to help serve, but I guess I just do not fit that mold. Thankfully, my place of employment offers a day of service/golf day to do some community volunteering. So, I decided to come here on my birthday to focus on people in need rather than on myself. Most of the ladies and gentlemen who work here are already retired, but they sure treat this place like their job. They are serious about what they do and still have fun and humor doing it. I always get a good dose of laughter when working side by side with these selfless women and men. It does good for one's soul. Before you get started however, it is always best to call and also meet Mrs. Martha (I have yet to meet her) to see, if they have a need for someone to help on a particular day. As mentioned, on the weekends it is more so church groups who come and assist and they have more of a need for volunteers during the weekdays. I believe they are open by 8 am. So from 8 - 11:30 am the food for lunch gets prepped. Then at 11:30 am food gets served to anyone who comes through the line until 12:30 pm and then it is clean-up until 1:30 pm, but you can leave at any time that you have to go. You would think that the food tastes mediocre at best, but I was pleasantly surprised by how good it actually does taste. Pretty much a good home-cooked meal. Then there is either a veggie or fruit salad and some decadent desserts for choice. I had to mention that this is Greer's best kept secret for a yummy meal. There's always something going on behind the scenes with clean-up as well. This place is highly organized and it is a joy to serve here. I have been able to come the last Friday of the month for the past three months. I do not think I will be able to make it this month, but I plan on giving the ladies a call (so they won't miss me, lol) to let them know I hope to be there at the end of November again. I will also check with them on their December holiday needs, because I'm not sure if that's when most people's conscience gets to them and they do help out or if they have more of a need then. Anyway, if anyone has a strong urge to get more involved in their community and DO the right thing, please come check out the Greer Soup Kitchen. They can always use food donations as well. You may not get a thank you from the people you serve, but that is not what it is about to me. It is the right thing to DO when someone is in need or suffering. Find me there the last Friday of the month!

Fantastic program for families of parents diagnosed with a terminal disease like kidney failure,…read moreetc who still have children 18 yr and under. They meet with the family and create a "memory" item for the children. It is tailored to the family and seems very personal in nature. A wonderful service. The rounder apparently one day started wondering if something happened to her, how her children would remember her. Currently it is local to SC Greenville / Spartanburg area. It started for Moms but have the same service for Dads! What a great cause worth volunteering or donating to!!!

Our eight-week program is based on the teachings of the Holy Bible and 12-step principles of Alcoholics Anonymous." From the road, this store looks worth checking out. (They have quite a bit of merchandise sitting in front of the store.) After checking that out I decided to go inside. There were a lot of men standing and blocking the entrance so I thought there might be another entrance but they moved when I asked if I was coming in the right way. Once inside I was a little disappointed. I don't mind getting dirty. If it's lots of stuff that doesn't bother me... I love to dig through junk to find a treasure! So the tightly packed small store didn't drive me away. However, the first thing that hit me was the store smelled bad. My second discovery was that none of the big items were priced. Quite a few people came and went while I was there. If I was near the other Home with a Heart stores I would stop and check them out. I probably won't visit this one again unless I want to do a DIY project and have the time to have someone price those items I'm interested in buying. Also it would have to be an item that could be sanitized.

We found this fair by accident and decided to travel up to Simpsonville and stay at an Airbnb and enjoy this small town. we had never been here before and we were exited about all that we read about this fair. Now this is your typical small town fair. Lots of locals and great stuff for youth of all ages.This an event to educate and inspire community celebration of the science and technology of plant and animal production through youth participation involving the 4-H and FFA organization! The South Greenville Fair promotes responsibility, and leadership for youths by providing the challenges of competition in all phases of agriculture, horses, and livestock. and it provides a format for the community to see and experience, and helps promote the value of the environment and natural resources to preserve rural heritage. Been around since 1958! As you can see there are plenty of cows, goats and chickens, We met some of the fine kids who really put lots of hours into raising their animals to be champions. One the coolest things i haven't seen in many years and my wife has never seen (shes a city girl) was the rabbit judging contest. The judge went over each rabbit in great detail and it was very stressful for the rabbit owners! We got to meet the Fair Queen! She was a delightful young lady who took the honor with professionalism and grace. What does a fair queen get and do? Well i had to ask never being one myself! They get a $500.00 Scholarship awarded to the college of her choice~ her duties at the fair are, She will be handing out prize ribbons, riding in the tractor parade, & giving Autographs! Ok the tractor parade was awesome! I do like them and these folks tack great pride in their tractors, some of them were over 100 years old! If you look we took over 33 photos of the event and didnt even cover it all. We ate homemade ice cream,excellent homemade cookies and really enjoyed the locals we met, super friendly and they were so glad we came. There was plenty of parking and super clean porta potties. They even had men and women's porta potties! Its held in Sept of every year and well worth the trip. We will be back!

They post a list of items they take for donation and need for the shelter so there's never any confusion on what they are accepting and what their donation hours are each day. As a victim of domestic abuse, supporting those going through the same turmoil is important to me. By donating to and shopping at Safe Harbor I'm making a small but real change in someone's life and in the world. what could be more perfect?
