I came to San Marcos from Orange County for business and needed a gym for just one week. Found…read moreAnytime Fitness on Mission Rd on Google, called ahead, and specifically asked if I could pay daily without membership. The guy on the phone said no problem, around five dollars per day, simple and straightforward. I show up in person, and suddenly the whole story changes. Now he's trying to push a monthly package, acting like the daily option either doesn't exist or isn't worth his time. Completely different attitude from the phone. No consistency, no professionalism, just a typical bait-and-switch vibe. The place itself feels like a hole in the wall. Small, messy, and depressing atmosphere. Equipment is cramped, and overall it just doesn't feel welcoming or professionally managed. The manager, Jon, was especially disappointing. Very cold, unresponsive, and clearly not interested in helping or building any customer relationship. Just negative energy from the moment you walk in. With that kind of attitude, it's no surprise the place struggles to leave a good impression. Plenty of better gyms in San Marcos. This one was a complete waste of time. Would not recommend. Hmmmmm keep it going this way no good (

There's an ample number of cardio machines and just plenty of equipment overall, I didn't have to wait. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Every time I visited, the pool seemed to be open, which was a nice perk. One of the highlights for me is that this location still has racquetball and a great variety of punching bags. I really enjoyed working out here. They also have a separate dry sauna, which can be a deciding factor for some people when choosing a gym. Plus, there are plenty of food options within the same parking lot, making it super convenient for a post-workout bite or a quick meal.

I joined this LA Fitness after specifically asking whether the cardio TVs rotated among different…read morenews channels. I was told they included a mix of Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC. That mattered to me because I don't think a gym should feel politically one-sided. After joining, I found that wasn't true. The TVs are overwhelmingly tuned to Fox News. When I asked about it, a front desk employee acknowledged that it's essentially Fox all the time and said management wasn't interested in changing it. What makes it feel even stranger is that the only TV showing a different news network was the one in front of a single accessible cardio machine, which gave the impression that any alternative viewpoint was being treated as an exception rather than part of a balanced lineup. This gym serves a very diverse community. People of different political views, races, ethnicities, and backgrounds all come here for the same reason: to work out. A fitness center shouldn't feel like it's endorsing one political perspective when something as simple as rotating news channels is clearly possible. Or maybe just ditch the news altogether and replace it with travel, nature, or other neutral programming-- which wwould make the environment more welcoming for everyone. My biggest disappointment isn't which channel they choose. It's that I made my decision to join based on information that turned out not to be accurate. I hope management will reconsider and create a TV lineup that better reflects the diversity of its membership instead of presenting only one viewpoint.

LVLZ Boxing has been on my radar for years and years. I finally tried them out this past week…read more You see, in a previous life, I trained in a great boxing club, 6am, 5 days a week. I loved it, but life happens and mom-needs took a backseat to kid-needs. Back to LVLZ Boxing... Let's start with the club itself...it's clean. Like super clean. I'm really picky about where I workout. After teaching fitness classes for a big box gym for 6 years, I know what to look for when it comes to cleanliness in a gym. Are there disinfectant spray bottles around? Yes! Do the coaches remind you to wipe things down after class? Yes! All these things are big in my book. Oh, and the bathroom is clean too. That's another hidden spot most gyms forget. Not here. With that out of the way...communication is on point. I emailed them through their website with a few questions and I received an answer in less than 5 hours. They offer a free trial class, so I signed up. I arrived early to get the lay of the land. Plenty of parking. Coach Adonis greeted me, we chatted about my previous boxing experience and he gave me a tour of the club. Very spacious and lots of training options. The class was great and the people were very friendly. I didn't feel out of place at all! There are no hard sells here, which I appreciate! Their trial class will convince you to join if it's for you...they don't push it. All their membership info and class schedule is on their website. Highly recommend checking this place out! 5 stars!
