Fortunately we were really hungry and decided to make a call. They indeed were open and helped us find a place to park across the street. A short walk later we were greeted by a very pleasant hostess and found a cozy seat at the bar. Our bartender was prompt and fun to talk to. Our food was really good, especially the Buffalo version of the patty melt. We also tried the Limocello martini, the house sangria and the house old fashioned. We highly recommend the Blue Bell Lodge if you are hingry in Custer State Park.

The food menu is somewhat limited, but what we ordered was really good. I started with a non-alcoholic Lagunitas Hazy IPA, which was excellent. It had some refreshing fruity notes and was a great choice. I ordered the orange chicken. It was well done and definitely good, although it didn't quite have that "wow" factor. My buddy ordered the small nachos with added beef, and those were absolutely the way to go! The "small" size was huge, loaded with toppings, and packed with flavor. I sampled a few and would definitely recommend them. There wasn't any live music on Friday night when we visited, but it looks like they have live music fairly often throughout the week, which would be a fun bonus. Service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and helpful with recommendations. If you're in Custer, this is definitely a place worth checking out!

You have to go to the restaurant to get ice.The restaurant is decent but a bit on the expensive side for what it is. They feature a $69 buffalo steak. We ordered the buffalo baby back ribs to start. They were ok. I can say I had them. For dinner we got the buffalo burger and the Rueben. Got a garden salad which was very good. Both entrees were good. I would come back to this hotel next trip.

My partner and I spent three wonderful nights at Hisega Lodge while exploring the Rapid City area…read more We were immediately impressed with the location, as the historic lodge is nestled next to a creek in the hills. From the moment we arrived, we were shown nothing but kindness and hospitality from the operators Tara and Mike. The welcoming environment of this place extends into every nook and cranny. Guests can access free microwave popcorn, sodas, ice, and coffee, and can access the main lodge at anytime and sit on the couches or read in the library area. There is wifi accessible and our room came with a tv that included access to a variety of apps, including Netflix. We were fortunate enough to bunk in a family suite and it is perfectly suited for a group of people that are looking for a home-away-from-home feel. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and open-concept kitchen and living area, it really felt like we had our own apartment here. The kitchen and bathrooms are thoughtfully stocked with travel-sized toiletries and condiments, and there are plenty of dishes and cookware to utilize. There would be no need to worry about cooking in the morning, however, because breakfast is prepared and delicious! Every morning was plenty to fill me up for hours, and the variety and quality of food was really exceptional. It is served at a communal table, so everyone at the lodge eats together. This turned out to be the most pleasant surprise, as we began establishing friendships and connections with other people. Between the friendly staff, the beautiful location, and the impressive breakfast, Hisega Lodge went far and above my expectations. I intend to recommend this place to anyone who is looking to stay in the Rapid City area.
