AWFUL billing tactics and unprofessional staff in the billing office. The owner doesn't call back…read moreor email. My co-pays totaled $360 which I paid when I recieved the bill and they said they sent several before and after (PS they refuse to let you pay at each visit so they can hand you a large bill and then charge late fees). I paid my $360 and now they are suing me for over $400 in late fees (the late fees were $205). They claim to negotiate late fees and then Cristy just says sorry it is at my discretion and no. Then Donna who handles their "collections" sent and email saying "bahahaha I guess EVERYONE sues her!!!" She sent it to me by mistake she intended to send it to someone else and have a laugh at my expense. I would NEVER do business with them. When you call you can never get a person it goes to voicemail and they never call back.

After meeting her out of pocket maximum for the year, the office manager advised that my mother had to continue paying her copay ($180/week) and then she would be reimbursed after Advanced Physical Therapy of SJ processed the billing. When my mother tried to explain that her insurance company said this was inappropriate and that she should not be required to pay, the office manager said she shouldn't listen to the insurance company. My mother attempted to contact the owner who had previously advised that if she had any issues he would be glad to help. She was stonewalled by staff when calling and emails have gone unanswered. The next step will be inquiring with the state and the insurance company as to whether this violates medical billing practices.

The Rothman Institute is run by a private equity firm that seems to care more about profit than…read moreabout patients' health. Whether needed or not, and even before you see a doctor, they take as many X-rays as possible--even of areas that are not relevant--just to make money. I was there today. Before I saw the doctor, they took four X-rays of my fingers, including one that wasn't even injured. When I finally saw the doctor, he told me the X-rays were unnecessary, and he didn't even look at them. This has happened to me three times in my last three visits. Taking so many unnecessary X-rays for the hundreds of patients they see daily across their offices greatly increases their profit. Shame on you!

In the meantime, the Johns were able to get me in within days, expertly figuring out exactly what the issue was (confirmed by orthos two weeks after), and giving me a bunch of at-home exercises to do that have helped immensely, and quickly.
