After my instructor quit to go back to…read moreschool just after my first solo, I waited months for another instructor who cancelled flights with no reason, followed by another instructor who treated my like I did something wrong because I complained about the poor service to his boss. I asked for more ground school and was told.'no because too much ground school will look bad on my record'. I asked for better service meaning simply finish my training and I was made to feel like I did something wrong. I finally bought a plane and got my training privately. I think they just want the BCIT students who may not complain about poor service. Also I had asked management for more private ground school on multiple occasions and was simply ignored. I would never treat my clients this way.

My son and I took a flight with Lou this afternoon in the Piper. We are both novice pilots and…read moreoften take "discovery flights" when traveling. It gives us the chance to spend some time in the air and learn the area in a unique way. We took off from Friday Harbor, and flew to Orcas Island and back. Lou is a terrific pilot and instructor, and the Piper is a terrific aircraft. We had great visibility and the trip was smooth. It was a wonderful few hours. Next up, the biplane!

This morning while eating breakfast, my husband saw a flyer for AeroClassic. We called to see if…read morethey could fit us in and Lou was wonderful about setting up a 2pm flight for us. We arrived a little early, the building is extremely easy to find and it gave us time to gaze at the airfield and a couple little planes. When Lou arrived he was super friendly and went over the plan for our Introductory Flight for Two. As I have never flown before he gave me a short explanation of aerodynamics and how to use the rudders to turn the plane (very useful information once we got into the sky!). Lou was an amazing teacher in the air and let me guide the plane and decide where to go in that time period. When my time was up, we landed on Orcas Island to switch pilots and let my husband fly. Lou was a great teacher, he was very patient and kind. After this amazing experience with Lou; both my husband and I want to take private pilot lessons, we only wish that Lou was closer to be our teacher!

For a rating that took me 2 year to attempt to get with my previous school, FLA was able to get me rated in only 2 days! Since day 1 I always felt welcomed and even to this day while finishing up my 50 hour bush course I always look forward to seeing the smiling faces that make up the team! If you are considering just a float rating or if you want to go all out with the 50 hour course FLA should be a serious consideration. They will not disappoint!

A last-minute business trip this week took me to Vancouver. The commercial flights from Houston to…read moreVancouver are a bit limited, so I needed to take a Tuesday night flight for a Wednesday afternoon meeting. This was my first trip to Vancouver, so I couldn't think of a better way to spend a free morning than going exploring by air. Vancouver is a beautiful city in its own right, but for airplane people, it is particularly delightful. The hotel in the airline terminal provides amazing views of international aviation 24/7. As an even better treat, Vancouver is a hub of seaplane activity. Two different busy seaplane docks are located on the south side of the airport, along the river and seaplanes come and go constantly. I began my aviation adventure from this charming side of the airport. Leaving Vancouver, we flew north over the city, then followed the highway towards Whistler, as the terrain rose. Still below the ridgelines on either side, our route brought us to Squamish, a mining and logging town, turned adventure sport capital. We proceeded north bound and circled Lake Girabaldi (just south of Whistler), then reversed course and flew south along Howe Sound and Horseshoe Bay. Once back in radio contact with "harbor tower" in Vancouver, we were given clearance to orbit downtown Vancouver, before returning for a great lunch at the Flying Beaver restaurant at Vancouver seaplane base. It was amazing. This is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and I cannot imagine a more perfect way to experience it than from a small airplane. The people are friendly and engaging and the country is breathtaking. Kudos to my friends at Fort Langley Air. I look forward to returning soon.

Second trip was this past September 26th I thought I'd see if my two sisters wanted to go for a try since we were doing a 2 day 1 night get away to re-quaint our sisterhood. My oldest Sister another one who was scared and nervous but got her to say yes. HAHAHA it was so much enjoyment seeing the look on her face before she was strapped in LOL. boy oh boy another one pleased! actually all of us had a wonderful experience with our flight and pilot. Thank You West Wind Aviation on both flights. Fabulous from the ease of booking to meeting up with the pilot for our 45min trip over the San Juans.

I thought it would be a great experience gift, although we were nervous initially because we had never been on a tiny, three-seater aircraft before. I spoke with a nice gentleman when I called in to set up our reservation two weeks prior. Sorry I didn't get his name. He was professional and gave detailed information about what to expect. I requested a confirmation email, which he couldn't provide immediately, but he said someone else in the office should be able to create one for me and send it the next business day. I got it as promised. We got to the Westwind office at the airport a few minutes before our reservation time. Our pilot, Scott, was at the front desk, all ready to go. We shook his hand, and he led us out to the little plane. He gave us a nice run-through of the door, seat belts, headsets. Shortly after, we were on the runway, preparing for takeoff. The tour was a delight. It was a beautiful day, mostly clear skies. The views from up above were breathtaking. We easily forgot how nervous we were about being on a tiny plane because we were just so amazed by the views and the whole experience. Scott was knowledgeable about the islands and historical events that took place there. He was also great with answering our questions. Scott did a very smooth landing that we barely felt anything, too. He's a real pro. When we got off the plane, my fiancé needed to use the restroom, and even though he didn't plan on heading back to the office, he took the time to take us there so that we could have access to a restroom. What a memorable experience. I highly recommend contacting these guys if you want to do a scenic tour of the San Juans in a super-cool fashion.
