Paddy's is my favorite bar and I'm not even that much of a bar person. I'd rather go to an event,…read moreconcert or the movies. But Paddy's to me is a fun place. In the weekends they have live music. People are jumping and singing along like there is no tomorrow. This is a nice bar to let loose and forget about the little stuff. No special clothing rules either. Just come as you are. Everyone is laid back. And sometimes you can see people act really funny when they're drunk. You see the most crazy stuff out here. The music selection in itself is not really spectacular. It's middle of the road music and lots of top 40 music, new and old (mostly old) Every favorite song by the likes of Nirvana, Bob Marley, Pearl Jam, Michael Jackson, etc is song and performed by a live band that knows how to generate energy. The people behind the bar are real fun too. Some of them walk around to serve your drinks. If you and your friends are in a silly mood, they love to play along. There is this one kid everyone hits on and he likes it. I wonder on how many mobile photo's he has appeared. It one fun mad house. Don't mind the wood chips on the floor. Part of the unique atmosphere. I heard it makes it easier to soak op and clean spilled alcohol after closing time, hhmmmm.....smart though. You'll see every kind of people from all walks of life. Rugged sports men, girly girls, party animals, shy flowers who where dragged along by their friend and the plain weird but super fun people. Sports lovers can watch football and rugby on big screens and have greasy food and beer to go with it. Paddy's is the bar that everyone knows and eventually ends up.

From the start the service was like being in a super busy bar with on me bartender that needed 3? But the fact was their weren't that many customers at the bar. Once the bartender arrived she was pleasant but very short and I had to end up asking for a menu after 2 beers. When I got it she announced all the items they were out of and explained they were REALY busy last week??? It's a Tuesday? I don't know how difficult it is in Rotterdam so I'll let that go. When my food arrived it looks amazing. A great bar presentation. The food was exactly how I ordered it. I was a bit surprised by the up-charge for Catchup ? But no big deal $1USD. Fries, I was lucky to get them apparently they were almost out of the twist ties. Straight out of the package noting new. So the burger...... apparently their speciality. Not so much. While the bread and fixings were very fresh and perfect I've never had a burger that was so dense and tough? I have eaten, and served frozen patties that were so delicious you can imagine they were frozen. If this was a fresh party they are absolutely dong it wrong and rolling them way to tightly and then pressing them too tightly into their form as they were absolutely exactly round and all edges the exact same. I think this is a great bar and the food can EASILY be improved simply by elevating the patty production or sourcing at almost no additional cost. This is just an american point of view so I apologize if folks here love the patty and it's how it's done here then I am absolutely wrong and should say well done. Overall. A good experience and the beer was gold and tasted great.

The first night I tried it was packed to capacity (even with sidewalk seating), so I decided to make a return trip during the day. It was decidedly more quiet and I grabbed a seat at the bar and got some recommendations from the bartender. Their beer selection is indeed top-notch. They had 10 taps and oh so many bottles. I asked for a local beer and got a deliciously dark and creamy Bax Bier Koud Vuur. Also had another beer that I don't recall. Not very helpful, I know. All in all, if you want to visit this place, go off-hours and not when everyone's trying to rage. That way, you can ask questions about beers and chill out instead of fighting your way to the bar.

In fact the bartender was a real character, and even posed for one of my photos. Actually, sitting on one of the cushions on the window sill, on a rather nice summer day, with one of the beer wine glasses that you get in the Netherlands, was an experience, yet a part of me felt that I was actually back home in Melbourne - not that this was a bad thing, but this place certainly felt like one of those really hip and cool bars that you find in the Collingwood/Fitzroy areas. They even have decent beers available as well. However, the thing is that what sets this place apart from the Melbourne bars are the beer wine glasses (and I am really going to miss them back in Australia).

The venue itself is not too big but, in this case it adds to the atmosphere. The staff is very friendly behind the bar as well as at the door. The prices are okay, standard for most bars in town. The crowd is a good mix of young and old, but it depends on the night as well as the particular performance. The sound system in this venue is okay, but loud performances are just a little bit too big for venues like this. The price of admission to a music performance is cheap (in this case 12 euros) for a music performance, and you often get a warm-up act to go with it. All things considered, I'll be back here whenever they have some other good artists coming up!
