More like 3.5 stars, but it's a bit pricey.
It was pouring when we drove into Hokitika so we drove around looking for a good place to eat and spotted Priya. Some hot, spicy Indian food sounded like an awesome plan for a rainy day.
We were the only ones in the restaurant when we arrived, but after 30 mins or so a few more parties came in and sat down. The menu here is extensive, but after deliberation we decided on the chicken tikka, lamb vindaloo, and chickpea masala along with a side of garlic naan.
The food took 10-15 minutes to come out and then we dug in! Our waiter also provided us with a big bowl of rice which came in handy to soak up the sauces from the tikka and the vindaloo. The tikka had a different taste than I was expecting though, and I really didn't care for it because it didn't taste like the original. The vindaloo on the other hand was very tasty, and I LOVED the chickpea masala. It was spicier than I expected but it was delicious and was excellent with the naan (which was decent).
Overall the food was pretty good but it's a bit overpriced in my opinion. Service was quick and cordial and the interior of the restaurant is nicely decorated :) read more
