The wedding photography went great - he and his co-photographer were very inconspicuous - we rarely noticed them, but they somehow caught all the fun, interesting moments on camera. They were always pleasant and accommodating! Re: a previous review, Glen, Asha, and the intake process are a little unusual, but go with the flow - they just take their work and their art seriously, and are intent on being able to capture you, rather than taking a bunch of cookie-cutter photos.

When we contacted DMPJ, the coordinator (not photographer) wanted to have a conversation with us over the phone to see if we were a good 'fit' for them. The conversation was kind of awkward. Felt like we were the ones being interviewed, but she was happy to proceed. So we then met with her and the photographer. We never had a chance to talk to the photographer directly because the coordinator was so overwhelming. After the meeting, we tried negotiating over packages. A couple requests: we didn't need an engagement session, so we asked for a comparable price reduction or a swap for something else. She was very opposed to this, but after several emails, we were able to convince her. We also wanted to meet with the photographer on our own but not allowed. They said they weren't flexible on the price because their advertising funds come from our package and any discounts would go to their next clients. This is what really sent us over the edge with them. Why does the person after me get a discount and not us!? So before we could decide yes or no, we received an email saying they didn't want to work with us. Thanks for listening and please consider this before proceeding with DMPJ.

(Father and Daughter Duo!...this was different) When we met with Gaby, she took the time to show us her work and explained the type of photography she did and she also took her time to get to know us and to ask us what we were interested in doing for pictures. She made sure we were well informed of all the aspects of wedding photography, wedding photo shoots and gave us ideas as well.... we didn't know where to start or what direction to go in. Gaby was very helpful through the whole entire process, she helped us establish a time line of events for our wedding from beginning to end. When my brother and his fiancee experienced one too many unbelievable setbacks with their impending…read morewedding, I stepped in to help manage it and I found Alex at the last minute (hardly two weeks before the wedding). From the very beginning and through the day itself, she never ceased to be helpful, friendly, flexible and good-natured about the craziness of the situation. We hired her to shoot just the ceremony, and it was supposed to be outdoors; but the day dawned to torrential downpours and it had to be moved inside. Alex adapted wonderfully and took some absolutely stunning shots--and when the rain let up a bit after the ceremony, we still got to have some natural light shots outside the building. Her ability to go from one setting to another with no warning was so appreciated. More important than anything else, though, my new sister in law (like most of us) tends to not like photos of herself and was very apprehensive about having a photographer at all. But she LOVES Alex's work from her wedding day. There is one photo from the ceremony of my sister in law's face during the vows that literally brought tears to my eyes when I saw it the first time--as my mom said when she saw it, "It's like you're looking right into her soul". All the aspects of the day that Alex shot, from the bride and groom to the bottles of champagne to the hand-made signs, have been captured with such loving detail. They will be treasured for years and years. While she's an experienced photographer, Alex is still relatively new to the wedding scene; but if she hadn't told me herself, I never would have guessed. Her website says that she is a photographic storyteller and that is completely true, her photographs of our wedding are not only beautiful but they are emotionally transportive - somehow looking at them brings my (now) wife and I back to that day in an almost physical way. Her pictures are exactly what we were looking for and we could not be happier! Alex came down to Washington D.C. for our engagement shoot and we had the best time with her. Getting to spend a day focused on taking photographs, going to places you love and doing things you enjoy as a couple is great in and of itself, but doing that in the middle of planning a wedding allows you take a step back and remember all the wonderful reasons you're getting married in the first place. Alex got my wife and I used to having someone take our picture, and we became very comfortable with her. This made all of our wedding pictures, and many of our engagement shoot pictures, feel so personal because we felt so comfortable with her. If Alex lived in D.C. I would definitely try to be friends with her - she's awesome. On the day of the wedding she could not have been more helpful - she went through the entire house where we were having the wedding and took stock of where everything was. When I couldn't find a stack of photographs and asked a room full of the bridal party if anyone had seen them Alex piped up (I didn't even realize she was there) and led me to exactly where they were. A friend recommended Arnav, and I'm glad I took the recommendation! We reached out to Arnav--who was incredibly responsive to all of our requests--and set up a time for the shoot. He had a bunch of great ideas for locations, but since Tom and I got engaged in Central Park, live near Central Park, and just generally spend a lot of time there, we decided that it would be the most meaningful choice (cliche as it may be). The session was essentially a stroll through the park. Arnav has a great eye for what photographs well, so when he saw a promising spot (setting, lighting, etc.), he would pose us and off we'd go. And the photographs were wonderful! I generally don't consider myself the most photogenic of people (I just can't master the fake smile), but Arnav did a great job making the photographs genuine and attractive. He has a particular talent with lighting and uses unique vantage points that make for pictures that are both unique and interesting. In addition to the amazing quality of the pictures, Arnav was also just enjoyable to work with. Having experienced wedding photographers who were nightmares, it's hard to overstate how important it is to be comfortable with someone--someone who can get the good shot without being too demanding or abrasive. The only piece of advice I would give (and this hold for any photographer, not just Arnav) is to ask if you want a particular photograph. Photographers aren't mind readers! Anyway, long story short, I would definitely recommend Arnav to all of my friends and family. The photographs were beautiful, and the experience was stress-free--all I could have hoped for.

I really like the formals with my husband and bridal party. However, i feel that some moments of the wonderful evening were not captured well. For example, there was only one picture captured of me dancing with my dad. I look forward to putting together my album and I do feel that I have enough shots for it, but will definitely miss the few moments that linger in my memory but were not captured. She was so professional and experienced that she was able to parse back and nail it. Without a first-look and formal photo session before the wedding, we were isolated to the cocktail hour. She was able to find the perfect backdrops around our venue to get people in place, snap the photo, and send them back to the fun of cocktail hour. She was able to blend into the excitement of the day to be everywhere without being obviously in everyone's face. Her demeanor on the day-of was so professional and relaxed that it made the photo process stress-free. Then within days of the wedding, she was already finishing editing photos for her blog, with the full set in less than a month.
