The room was airy and spacious tastfully decorated, clean and complete with tv, mini bar and lovely en suite. Location is wonderful, only 2 mins walk to the Guinigi Tower and less to the main shopping street. Despite its central location the hotel was quiet and relaxing. Now on to the best bit, if you like eggs you will love this place. How do you like them? Just say and they will do them for you, alongside breakfast buffet of cereal, breads, meats, fresh fruit and the best coffee in Lucca. We are going back asap and hope to many times over. They are friendly, accommodating, welcoming, and helpful. Our room was very comfortable. Breakfast was just right. If you'd like, they will make a great cappuccino for you. The location was also perfect, in the heart of everything. We had two large pieces of luggage with wheels and it was an easy 10 to 15 minute walk from the train station. One evening Andy had left a note on the desk counter near the front door recommending a restaurant not far from Rinascimento B&B. Alle Bandierine (address: Via Mercanti 4). It's an easy 5 or 6 minute walk in the direction of the train station but much closer as you don't cross the bridge over the Arno River. As is typical for dinner this restaurant opens at 7:30PM. We arrived at about 7:50PM and we almost couldn't get in. I suggest arriving a few minutes before it opens. The food and service were excellent. I highly recommend giving it a try. Do stay away from Anita Osteria for dining. Another suggestion made by Andrea is to walk on the top of the wall. This wall was built in the mid 12th century and offers great views. It's the oldest wall in all of Italy. If someday a return to Pisa is in the cards, I will definitely stay at Rinascimento Bed & Breakfast again. A warm and inviting place to stay in a perfect location. I highly recommend this B & B.

B&B Antica Corte dei Principi…read more The main reason we chose this B&B for our 3 nights is Lucca was the character. It is an old building, not sure how old, but it almost has a medieval feel. That comes with some things that other travelers may not like -- the walls are a bit thin, the stairway is narrow and a little steep, and the rooms and bathrooms are a little small. Though it may be small, this little place and the owner have a lot of charm. The owner was very sweet. She apologized over and over for her English, but we had no problems understanding her and thought it was great (definitely better than our Italian). She provided a map, as well as recommendations for eating and walking. If you stay here, do yourself a favor and pay attention to this part. All of her recommendations were great. She also provided a decent Italian breakfast, with juices, coffee drinks, pastries, yogurts, fruits, etc. You also can't beat this location. Although it could be a noisy at night (you could occasionally hear people walking on the street below) and it is a little hard to find, this hotel is right in the heart of Lucca, and probably one of the nicer spots to stay inside the walls. This is one of the cities in Italy that we will definitely include on our next trip!

In her large kitchen we made bruschetta, farro soup, 4 kinds of pasta from scratch (tagliatelle, maccheroni, ravioli, and spaghetti), 4 sauces (pomodoro, ragu, Salciccia , and butter with fresh sage), and tiramisu. Lots of chopping and simmering and getting our hands "dirty"! While cooking we had white wine, then red with dinner. She's a great teacher. Nothing fancy, just how to make good food in a simple way. Price was 85 euro each....we thought that was quite reasonable for 5 hours of cooking and eating, with recipes to take home! She's Italian, born in Scotland, so excellent English. Rita also has a few apartments and a B&B called La Mezzaluna, so she offers 4 and 7 day cooking experiences with some side trips to nearby places in Tuscany.
