Staying here 2 nights and got a "new room" in a new wing. My room was in the 5100 block of rooms, which is on floor -1 and a long way from reception, conference rooms, restaurant and bar. The room was warm and searching for the thermostat was in vain. There is none. Instead I found a floor model air cooling fan. It worked when plugged in and did blow cool air, but the timer can only be set for 2 hours at a time and clicks very load as it counts down. Not only is it an inadequate size to cool the room, but it's too loud to sleep with on. In talking with others in my group whose rooms were on the train station side of the hotel, I prefer the timer clicking over have to hear the train arrival/departure announcements!!
I went to lock some valuables in the room safe only to find it not operational. The staff did fix it right off, so was only a minor inconvenience.
The restrooms in the hallways are easy enough to find, they are signed in the hall, and the hallway near them smells to heavens!!!
For such a beautiful building - the conference room, dining room, and Garden room area are simply beautiful - I've never experienced such a lack of attention to detail at this price point! York seems beautiful, but I would investigate other hotels in the area. I wouldn't stay here again I don't think. read more
