Again, I would give this shop negative stars if that were possible. A few days after my horrendous experience at this shop, I took my car to another local mechanic to get a second opinion. Among other things, William ("Willy") Rosso, the Sunoco owner, had said that my car has a hydraulic leak, but the other mechanic informed me that Rosso's analysis was absolute baloney, and that my breaks are safe to drive for at least another 10,000 miles (significant because I only drive my car to the train station and locally on weekends... it will take me at least 2.5 years to get to 10,000 miles). I am so glad that I was not fooled and didn't spend $1300 with Rosso's shop. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere if you want honest, professional service (and if you want to avoid being cursed at for asking entirely reasonable questions). read more

I don't like to dispute anyone who had a bad experience with a business, but the subpar rating for Princeton Sunoco doesn't sound right to me. We had an aging Ford that gave endless trouble -- simple age and shoddy U.S. manufacturing -- and Sunoco was our go-to resource for over ten years. In every case what we got was a fast diagnosis, an on-time repair, and very thoughtful treatment from Willy and his crew. (Several times he provided a driver to drive us home and pick us up when the car was ready, and once he lent us his own car -- a Mercedes!-- to drive while ours was in the shop.) It gets better. Willy is punctilious about explaining every item on the bill when the repair is completed. He keeps the broken or damaged or defective part taken out of your car to show you and to explain exactly how its failure was responsible for what happened. He shows you the price Sunoco paid to the parts supplier to make the point that its cost was a fair share of the price paid by you. It's all, as we now say, "transparent" -- a rare virtue in businesses in these cynical days. Willy is himself a good, guy, a sort of throwback to the old-fashioned, laconic garage owner who knows exactly what he's doing and what a customer has a right to expect. He's the exact opposite of the smiling line-of-patter have-you-considered-putting-in-a [insert expensive and unnecessary item here] type you'll get in a lot of large-scale dealerships or repair operations. It's clear that he's proud of the competence of his employees and his own ability to oversee the work and judge that it's been done right. We've lived in Princeton for well over 30 years. We wish we'd found Princeton Sunoco twenty years earlier than we did. We made the mistake of thinking that it was just a gas station! read more

I'm not disputing anyone who says they've had a bad experience, but my experiences have all been good. Multiple times they've had the chance to try to sell me an expensive service (like needed a new catalytic converter to pass inspection) and instead they've said there was some cheaper way to handle it or else it was something I could afford to wait on for awhile. And I have never had a repair that wasn't perfect. This is why I keep coming back. (And Willie loaned me one of his own personal cars for a week when a repair went longer than promised!) read more

Willy is an honest guy but the work here was nearly always sub par. I paid $600 to get two things fixed and when I got it back, neither was fixed. I must've brought it back five times and still neither fixed. Worst of all, a new problem was introduced by the repairs, one that ultimately the dealer had to fix. I wish I'd just gone to Union Line Garage in Hopewell from the start (they will pick you up and drop you off for free) because I feel like the mechanics here may have done more damage than good to my car. The one mechanic seems to have anger issues; he's always supremely pissed. The redhead is a nice guy but he's not a mechanic, just seems to handle the desk. Bottom line: conveniently located if you need an oil change or other very simple work but don't go here for anything more complex. read more

Possibly the world's MOST honest and caring car-service center that Princeton is fortunate to call their own, and in town, no less. Willy's garage bays are packed with Maseratis, Ferraris, vintage Shelby Cobras, and then normal cars for us normal people paying normal prices. Just that the full gamut of vehicles, high-end to my end, is under the wrench at Willy's shows his trouble-shooting software and mechanics (shout out to Aaron, Aaron's dad, and Tim) handle all cars, and that they understand any engine and brake system, etc, that cross their doors. The shop tells a straight story, and assesses the issue, and ALWAYS has the car ready at the promised day and time. I have tried Kingston Garage, the car's dealership, and others, could never even think of even NOT calling Willy--I'd be a fool. So glad I found this shop. read more

Gas station is fine. The air pump head was gimmicky and I wasted $2 in quarters before giving up on it. When I asked for a refund inside I was refused; apparently the air pump is not managed by the Sunoco. In that case, it should not be present on their property to trick me into wasting money. I still go here for gas because gas is gas, but I wouldn't trust them with anything more. read more
