The 'new' Princesshay shopping centre opened in 2007, replacing a 2 year building site, which had in turn replaced an uninspiring old fashioned group of shops and flats. It has a range of mostly chain shops and restaurants, with a few independents thrown in for good measure. Far more interesting than the shopping is the design and architecture of the centre, which has been done quite sympathetically. The view of the Cathedral as you turn a corner walking through the shops, for example, is breath taking. Princesshay has given Exeter a far more upmarket feel, and shops in other parts of the town have pulled their socks up as a result. read more
