Consistently busy in summer with kids crabbing off the deck and fishermen dangling bait from the end, its a great reminder of the towns glorious past. And in fact its glorious present, because it's a fine place to visit, with a lot of lovely art and craft shops, places to get icecream. And pubs. The beach is ace around the pier too, it even has a surf school where you can learn to hang 10 on a two foot swell. Whatever that means If you're around cromer in the evening and want a 70s flashback, end of the pier shows still take place every season.

It is a popular fishing spot, and 'crabbing' is a favourite activity for summer visitors. There is plenty of seating throughout and at the entrance there are toilets, a restaurant, a gift shop and ticket office.

If you can get to the theatre by public transport it is easier (and much cheaper) than parking, but there are carparks in the vicinity.

I have been there a number of times, mainly for shows organised by local dancing schools or theatre…read moreclubs. The King's Lynn Arts Centre is in a nice setting, near the river Ouse. Inside it feels like a small town theatre - sort of cosy. The seats are comfortable and the shows I have seen have been good. From time to time they also show movies - normally the sort you cannot see in chain cinemas so well worth looking out for.

The show itself although only a dress rehersal was fantastic! The kids loved it, the only downside i can see to the Riverhead theatre is that it is very small, but then in a town the size of Louth i guess it doesnt really need to be that big! The tickets are very reasonably priced although the prices vary depending on what shows are on but i dont think i have ever seen a ticket advertised that has cost more than £11. The theatre itseld is very clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

It's a fantastic asset to Louth and well deserving of the lottery funding it's had. There are professional dressing rooms, a well-appointed stage with good lighting and even a bar. Views of the stage are good from all seats because it's such a small theatre, and this definitely adds to the atmosphere. The Playgoers theatre company often advertise different plays and these get excellent reviews.

The Hippodrome is one of the oldest surviving circus buildings in the UK dating back to the early…read more1900s. The circus features a water spectacular where the ring is sunk and filled with water for synchronised swimming routines. There is a dance troupe Estelle's dancers which regularly perform in the shows. The shows are full of colour and variety and the clown is hilarious. The downside is that the seats are quite steep around the ring - there's not much room but it's worth it because the shows are fantastic. A great way to spend an evening in summer and the kids will love it (especially the clown!)

On Saturday evening, our…read morehosts took us to the Rutland Open Air Theatre for a performance of Othello by the Stamford Shakespeare Company. This is a stunning venue, being based around the manor house dating back to the 11th century. There are very pretty grounds and theatregoers do picnic on the lawns before the performance but the rain yesterday meant we didn't have the chance to do this. The Stamford Shakespeare Company put on 3 open air plays a year. The theatre itself offers a large canopy over the seated audience area but the stage is out in the open. Fortunately, the rain stayed away during yesterday's performance but I was assured by my local friends that whatever the weather, the show does go on. I wouldn't call myself a Shakespeare fan but last night's performance may just have converted me. I was riveted and this tale of deceit, jealousy and betrayal was a roller coaster of emotions. My only regret was the Stamford Shaekspeare Company's tradition of not having a curtain call at the end of the play - the 'dead' actors remained on the stage until the theatre had emptied. They deserved a standing ovation. And to top it off, the tickets cost £16 each! This is an evening of top entertainment, even if you don't consider yourself a fan of the bard. Thanks to my friends Ian and Alice for organising this superb evening.
