The Hotel was great for our family. We all loved the cozy breakfast area and their incredible variety for breakfast. The coffee machine made perfect varieties of drinks. I liked the big screen TV with the news. This Hotel was a wonderful part of our vacation.

My room was only big enough for the bed and a small space around it, but I didn't spend a lot of time there, so it wasn't bad. It had a small closet behind the door that I did not see till my last night. The bed was comfortable enough, but the king size bed was two twin beds jammed together, and the two covers were only large enough to cover just the top of each twin bed... meaning if you get in it, you cannot move in the middle of the night or be exposed to freezing air (if you go in winter like me). I can't imagine how a couple could navigate this scenario (if it's cold, don't you think it's better to have one large blanket covering both mattresses??). I saw this same thing in Germany too, so perhaps it is the hotel bed style in those countries. My room had a tea kettle and a couple of bags of tea. Just down the stairwell in a common area there was a coffee machine which generated all kinds of great coffee. The hotel was not very warm. Understandable with the energy prices and I think that Americans are not as judicious with their environmental control as other countries (being from Florida, I really felt the cold). And the radiator heating was broken in the middle of the night on my second night. With my room was freezing at 2am, unable to sleep, and with all the blankets over me, I called the front desk, but no one responded. We went to the bar to get some wine on a couple evenings. The bar was quiet and closes "early" (11:30 I think). It was nice to sit and chat with my colleague, but don't expect to get social with anyone. There is a small coffee shop/bar down the street which has a very nice ambience. Mostly, I would choose this hotel because it provides handy walking distance to where I needed to go.

So allow me to do exactly that while taking a trip down memory lane: The year was 1906... Just kidding, it was three-four years ago and my wife (then fiancee) and I were traveling through the Netherlands to Germany (Cologne), then to Belgium (Bruges), and back to Amsterdam. Our first stop after Haarlem was Utrecht, a town I had long wanted to visit since seeing photos, and we decided to 'splurge' on a nicer hotel. Mother Goose. A 4 star hotel. But it really is so much more than that. The rooms are carefully designed, each different than the other, super boutique vibes, and in a central location. We stayed two nights in the upstairs 'black room.' Not the hugest room ever but still spacious, open layout, high ceilings, wooden beams painted black, comfy bed with dark sheets, and a modern sink/bathroom area. Plus good views of the city. The darkness of the room added a cooler, more cozy element that we really appreciated. Everything was done tastefully and in a stylish way. This was our favorite hotel stay ever, and has remained that even to this day. Can't wait to go back, stay in Mother Goose again, and explore the city some more (frites in hand, of course).

Check-in was a breeze (we did it online just before arriving). They had some cancellations, and so, upgraded us to a suite (room 303). The room itself was spacious, and well-appointed, clean and comfy. The little elevator is also fun - small, but with glass sides, and a view of the outside of the building as you rise. Breakfast is across the plaza at the little cafe. The location is very central - close to the lively scene along the canals, and to other sights in Utrecht. And, though our room looked out over the little plaza, it was very quiet in the evenings. This place is highly recommended!
