This mural is one of many nice and interesting murals in the city of Louisville. You can actually make a day of just visiting murals as many of them are in the same general area. I made my own free outdoor art gallery.
This is located in the Shelby Park neighborhood, across the street from Louisville sculptor Ed Hamilton's studio and is based off of the music legend's Purple Rain album cover. The mural is the creation of local artist Damon Thompson who has really beautified Louisville with many of his paintings. He has over 40 since March 2020. He highlights the singer's trademark and favorite color with a dove, a nod to Prince's hit song, "When Dove's Cry".
The mural is right under a "We gon be Alright" sign, an adopted slogan of the BLM movement.
There is lots of free street parking available to for you to get out and check out the mural. However, it is not a very long stop and you probably could accomplish what you want to in the comfort of your vehicle. Definitely a must see of Louisville public art, whether or not you are a fan of the Purple One, His Royal Badness, or the High Priest of Pop. So, as I have mentioned, it is best to plan out stops at many of the other wonderful murals that are within a mile or two and make a day of it. read more
