Reagan, a senior at Penn State, started a business, "Hug a Highland" which allows guests to brush, love, feed their Scottish Highlands cows and miniature donkeys, which are all so adorable. We were talked through a honey tasting and then given instructions and supplies (map & bag) for apple picking. We expected to have maybe 4 options, but, to our pleasant surprise, there were at least 6 varietals in season. We left with a half peck, some honey, and a few delicious homemade honey caramels. In recent years, more plants have been planted, and more buildings have been constructed. The garden now has a welcome center and gift shop, an event center, an administration building, a picnic area, a homestead with a chicken coop and an apple orchard, a log house, a pavilion, a gazebo, an apiary (for beehives), a pond, a bird's nest, and, of course, many gardens, meadows, and woodlands. So far, I have visited this garden four times over several years--three times to walk along the paths and view the plants and once to see the Dazzling Nights Christmas lights. The paths are easy to follow and take me about one hour to walk. The native plants look pretty, but I wish that more flowering plants were included. During my most recent visit, the gardens had 15 Scraposaurs, which are dinosaur and prehistoric sculptures that were made from repurposed metal. Even my husband enjoyed the natural scenery and the artwork.

I've enjoyed their salads, kids menu options and baked goods. The gardens are a wonderful place to plan a picnic or just walk around and take in all the hard work that goes into maintaining the grounds. They have a few areas geared towards kids and a lovely pond to sit and relax by. We especially love to admire the local art exhibits that routinely change.

This is THE farmers market to go to when you need just about any sort of produce. Or something…read moreextra... but the regulars are Simmons, Janoskis, "the farm family", near Wood street bakery (fridays) and Pitaland,who have a fantastic variety of produce/herbs/plants, "the older guys" down towards the kettle corn (this doesn't arrive till June) Then you have food vendors- like Acou try Style Pizza, shaved ice, local honey, Coyne Family meats, the fudge lady, etc sorry I cannot name them all! Fridays only in May, then Things start rolling in June-August. Best part, this goes until November; it's covered, mostly enough parking except be prepared when corn season hits. Last Friday, the first market, Janoskis brought, French carrots, fennel, Sorrel, plants, tons of lettuces and cabbage- just to name a few. The AMAZING wood Street Bakery had their fresh breads, cinnamon rolls- so much good stuff that's hard to choose! And a new vendor came selling beautiful tulip bouquets. This has been a family favorite stop for over 20 years that we've lived nearby.
