What a lovely intimate restaurant. Mostly locals. Friendly service. Authentic food. This place is…read moreall about meat. We had appetizers of lardo, slices gossamer thin with toasted bread and wonderful salami. We followed that with penne with a sauce of ragu and artichokes and finished with thinly sliced steak and mushrooms. A bottle of Frescolbaldi Brunello de Montalcino and a couple of macchiatos rounded out our lovely two hour lunch.

We wanted a carnivorous lunch today so we searched for a meat place in Milan. Surprisingly there…read moreare many! A nice surprise actually, now I have my bookmarks full. Well we ended up choosing La Carbonaia and we were not left disappointed, or at least, not completely. The place is very small and characteristic, the grill is front and center with a display of costate fiorentine in front. I like the vibe. They bring a complimentary appetizer, mondeghili, typical Milanese fried meat balls, de-li-cious. I order a grigliata mista and the others order a fiorentina. The grigliata mista is kind of disappointing, especially the serving size. It's a very small plate with just three types of meats, I expected more quantity. It was very good, but not filling at all. The fiorentina was delicious, with some very tender pieces and other not so tender ones. Very rare, they don't even ask how you want it, that's the way you have to have it anyway, all in all a good experience.

Obviously when one is in Italy, one should dine on the local cuisine. However, even Italian food…read morecan get repetitive. So what do you do then..you come here. The food was simply delicious. This is an Argentinian steak house. They do meat well. We ordered the parilla for two, but there was enough food for three people. The meal started with a quad of homemade spreads and bread. While you try those delicious spreads, the cooks are in the back preparing your meat. And what delicious meat it is. They served the parilla on a cooking plate, which is laid along the side of the table. The parilla for two had pork sausage, beef ribs, pork fillets, and two different cuts of steak. The server expertly cuts the meat for you tableside, serves you, and leaves you to enjoy your meal. Coupled with the potato sides, which is part of the parilla experience, and bottle of red vino, you have a meal fit for a queen/king. On the table, they leave a trio of homemade sauces to accompany the steak. If you ask for A-1 sauce, this is not the place for you. For dessert we had the dulce de leche crepes. For those of you who have tried the dulce de leche in Argentina and love the super sweet, tan colored goodness, then you are in for a treat. The service is excellent. There are lots of staff to help you immediately. They all speak English. And if you know Spanish, you can speak to them in Spanish too. Maybe has something to do with the place being Argentinian, but it made my life easier. We arrived without reservations and we were accommodated. The decor is simple and casual. The walls are adorned with typical Argentinian items; for example, there is a wall of matcha tea drinking cups. If you notice, the restaurant is only open for dinner and only open for 4.5 hours of dining. What does that tell you...they know their food, they know their service, they know their worth. Only a place that takes their craft seriously, can maintain being open for such short hours every day.

I have mixed feelings about this place, great ambiance, but very very loud. Food is hit or miss,…read moresome plates were outstanding, some so and so, and some really bad. The BBQ sauce on the pork ribs was awful and ruined the meat completely. The ribs themselves were very difficult to eat, and not"melt in your mouth" kind of ribs. The tartare was ok, but the truffles did not taste it smell of anything. The entrana was spectacular, very good. The nuestra provoleta, a slice of provola cheese grilled and melty, was fantastic. Service was great too. Prices too high for the quality overall. I don't think I'll be back.

From the moment we walked in, the restaurant made a strong impression. The interior was beautifully decorated, with many framed vintage photos on the walls that gave the place a warm and classic feeling. At the entrance, there was a display of dry-aged steaks, which immediately showed the restaurant's focus on high-quality meat. We started our meal with a fresh salad and a selection of dry cuts. The salad was crisp and very fresh, and the dry cuts were flavorful and nicely presented. It was a great way to begin the dinner. For the main course, I ordered a medium-rare entrecôte. It was cooked perfectly--tender, juicy, and full of flavor. You could really taste the quality of the meat. To drink, we had a Tuscan red wine, which paired wonderfully with the steak and made the meal even more enjoyable. The service was also excellent. The waiters were dressed very formally, which added to the elegant atmosphere of the restaurant. They were clearly experienced, very professional, and always ready to help with recommendations or questions. Overall, our dinner was memorable. Great food, excellent wine, a stylish interior, and professional service made it a wonderful evening for my family and me. I would happily return again.

It is run/owned by a husband and wife who speak little English, though not a problem. They are very friendly and nice. The husband more so and his wife a bit reserved at first. If we were staying another night, we would return for dinner. They make a very good Florentine steak! Very tasty! The owner learned from the best. They know how to prepare meat. The husband was attentive during dinner and communicated how we dip our bread to finish up all the fine sauce from the steak. We are so glad he did. We finished and cleaned off our plates. The steak melts in your mouth and paired with the house wine is superb!!! Before we left, the husband made a toast to us with a complimentary lemon shot. We highly recommend all travelers looking for a true Florentine steak to dine at La Carbonella. The One thing missing is the Italian dolce; tiramisu, pane cota, creme brûlée, etc. Dessert was limited to chocolate cake and fresh cherries and apricots. dessert
