What's even worse is that I am not even sure they are qualified to do tax returns. I gave them my documents and they told me I owed an obscene amount in taxes this year. I was very doubtful of their work given I understood roughly what my liability should be, and gave the exact same documents to another tax preparation service. My tax bill was significantly reduced with the exact SAME information. How does that happen??? Anyway I have been demanding a refund from AJR and am now going straight to my credit card company to charge back their fees. Do not use for your taxes - you could do them better yourself!!!!

I enlisted Merriman Tax Services because I wanted to upgrade from letting my CPA do my bookkeeping, and utilize a local small business to accomplish that goal. Alicia is very talented--she knows her stuff. She has great marketing colors and images. Her financials are very attractive and, on the surface, detailed. Unfortunately that's where the quality ends. She left messy financials with accounts like "unapplied cash bill payments" on them; she failed to reconcile multiple accounts in some cases for months; on one occasion she took payment for a task she contracted for but didn't complete, and said nothing about it until confronted. Communication-wise, she alienated each of my staff whom she interacted with, and probably does so in her own office because her turnover was horrendous and ultimately she was farming me out to a nice gentleman (but c'mon, you're a local small business) in India. Towards the end, she was very unprofessional: when I asked her for a P&L for 2022, she would only do a 4th Qtr FS and apparently out of spite, never would do a 12-month document! Who does that?! In summary, Alicia was petty, she was occasionally childish and seemingly malicious. She was without a doubt the least professional provider I have worked with in my many years of communicating with a diverse number of vendors. Cannot recommend her less as a service.

I immediately followed up with an email and asked why the cost jumped to $600. No response. I followed up again on 4/6. Still no response. I'm not opposed to paying the $600 but not ok with not following up on my requests. I took my business elsewhere.
