The food was really good. We haven't really found a lot of good restaurants out here in mid- Mass so this one is probably the best so far. When I called the order in, the person was friendly and accurate. She also took the time to ask the kitchen how long the order would take to make. 25 minutes. That's not bad considering anything out this way is a bit of a drive in comparison to where we live. So hats off the Russo's. We will be back!

The scallops smelled like ammonia…read more Just got back from dinner at Russo's Lakeside in Palmer. I ordered the fried seafood combo. According to the internet, when I searched to see if they were safe to eat, it says "No -- throw them out. The ammonia smell is a clear sign of spoilage, and eating them puts you at risk of foodborne illness (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramps, etc.). Even if they were fried and look/taste okay otherwise, the decomposition has already started." The rest of the meal was "ok" but when I brought the potentially spoiled scallops to the attention of my server, she discussed it with her boss. The boss said they comp me a beer I had drank. Now, I don't own a restaurant, but I would assume that those scallops were a much larger portion of my bill than the draft beer. I mentioned that to the server and she went back to the boss lady, only to come back and offer a $10 discount. Perhaps if the boss lady would have come out and talked to me about it, I would have been ok with that but she stayed in her office because she was "very busy". This is when I started to get annoyed. I could hear them talking on the other side of the wall and mentioned to the server that I was really surprised she didn't come out to talk to me about this problem. She reiterated that the boss lady was very busy. However, the server wasn't able to apply the $10 discount so boss lady had to come out and do it. To add insult to injury, the woman completely ignored me as she stood about a foot or so in front of me. I had to ask her if she was the manager or the owner and her reply was just "I'm married to him." Then began telling me that the scallops my wife had were from the "same batch". I had smelled those scallops and they did smell fine but that doesn't mean there wasn't a problem with the ones in my order. I said I was surprised she didn't come out to talk to me and she just said "it's been a very long day!" I replied with "You serve FOOD to customers." Then she just threw her hands up and walked away. I wasn't rude, didn't raise my voice and was still disrespected as a customer. First time there, and will never return not do I recommend anyone else does. Hopefully I don't get sick from eating there.

Three people were already ahead of us, but they were long-waiting for their order. More people came in after us, some door-dash types and some ready to order at the counter. Finally! A staff person finally acknowledged us after several minutes and took our order. But after about 5+ minutes, I was informed the caramel machine was broken. So I opted for the hot fudge. By the time I actually received the sundae it was after another 5+ minutes that flew by slowly. I took it over to the table and found the ice cream already half melted, creating a mess in trying to eat it. I finally succeeded but needed to wash my hands. Going to the bathroom I found a sign on the door stating one has to ask for a key at the service desk to get in! Ugh, I hated the idea that I had to get back in that line?, but I tried the door and found it unlocked. Upon entering I found a mostly clean bathroom but the soap dispenser issued very little soap because someone had taken it apart and those parts lay across the top of the sink. Fun. After all of this, as I was eating, I noticed the constant long lines of vehicles winding around the building, waiting for the drive-up. So when we left we could not even back up out of our parking space immediately because of the back-up almost to the road. What an experience all for some ice cream.

Subway has survived, somehow, and I'm quite thankful. Belchertown's "restaurants" section of the phone book is pretty slim pickins. The interior is modern, clean, with lots of seating available. I've never had to wait more than 2-3 minutes to order, as there's hardly ever a line. Thankfully, this Subway is always staffed with at least two people on the sandwich line. What sets this Subway apart-- for me-- is that everything is so well stocked and FRESH every time I walk in the door: drinks, chips, sandwich toppings, bread. I consistently see them "picking out" unsightly browned lettuce, wilted spinach, and mismatched toppings that have fallen into the wrong container. If you're like me, nothing grosses you out more than icky lettuce. The staff could use a little pep talk, their energy levels are pretty low. I mean, I get that they're working at Subway and not some Michelin star restaurant, but they really are doing a great job at sandwich making. So... you know, kudos. One thing, though... can we please all start calling them pepperoncinis? deferring to banana peppers is just so... erroneous... even though (apparently) the box they come in at Subway apparently denotes them as banana peppers. END RANT.

Employee seemed inconvenienced that I was trying to buy something. AND....the 12" wrap measured exactly 7". Unbelievable. Maybe the 12" is about the bread, certainly not about the sandwich...which was a "wrap". I felt like I was getting the "bum's rush"...like she couldn't wait to be done with me. All I got was attitude. Friday, Sept 18th, around 7:30 pm. I got the feeling that no one (employee) cared. Product is far over priced anyway. Part of the price should reflect convenience, welcome atmosphere, polite service. It also used to smell very nice when you walked in. No More. I got none of that. I will actively avoid the place. Too bad really. It used to be better.
