Tasty food, nothing spectacular. I'd go more for the vibe than the food -- the atmosphere is super-cute, with splashy colours and fun Mexican-themed artwork painted onto the walls, the most interesting ceiling fans I've seen in a long time (ha), and incredibly friendly service.
The menu is pretty extensive, with the sections divided into small plates, medium plates, and large plates. Gluten-free and dairy-free options are clearly marked on the menu. This place is "Mexican" (I have yet to eat actual Mexican food in Australia) so don't go expecting anything authentic-tasting, but the flavours are nice enough anyway. You've got your usual suspects of tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and quesadillas on the menu.
As for vegan options, it's pretty easy to work out what's both vegetarian and dairy-free on the menu, and eggs aren't anywhere that I could tell (except probably in the desserts). I had the veggie burrito (rice, beans, corn, etc.) with no dairy, which the chef was happy enough to do. However, I'm a bit confused because it came out with salsa blanca (a white sauce that usually contains dairy) even though I specified no dairy. But they did know to leave the cheese off. So maybe the chef made a non-dairy salsa blanca, not sure. Either way be sure to specify to your waitress that you're vegan.
The flavours were nice but decidedly un-Mexican. And our waitress pronounced both "quesadilla" and "tortilla" with a hard "l" sound, which made us (a table of Texans) roll our eyes so hard they practically fell out of the sockets.
But the price was right ($15 for a very filling burrito), the place was cute, the service was great, and the bar was fully stocked, so this place is worth a visit if you're in the area and wanting something Mexican-ish. read more
