I asked locals which bars would be open at 9pm on a Sunday and everyone pointed to Metals which is…read morebasically the only place open that late. In fact they're unlike most other businesses in Wallace and are open everyday until 2am. This is your typical no-frills dive bar with a pool table, a shuffleboard. Their wells and beers are $3 which are so cheap and amazing! I don't get complicated stuff at these dive bars so I stick to my whiskey cokes and shots of whiskey. They have happy hour from 4pm-6pm daily which is $1 off food and booze, so imagine your already-cheap $3 beers or wells becoming an astonishing $2. If you're coming here expecting a gourmet meal you should be looking elsewhere, because they have dive bar food which means frozen snacks. They actually have this cool contraption to deep fry stuff like tater tots or dumplings which apparently costs like $5k. The bartenders are all super friendly, especially Dave who I saw multiple days during my stay. I came here most days during my week stay in Wallace and this is one of the staples of the town. You'll meet very friendly people here who are always willing to strike up a random conversation.

Gorgeous small town Montana resort located on the beautiful Clark Fork River. The resort offers…read morestandard hotel rooms in addition to various cabins that sleep up to 8 people comfortably plus have full kitchens. Some of the cabins are older than others, but they all have their own unique charm, no cookie cutters used here. Restaurant, bar, gift shop, casino and ICE CREAM shop all located on the property. What more do you need? I highly recommend the huckleberry and the moose tracks ice cream, and just all of the ice cream, so good. The staff I encountered on my 3 day stay were all extremely kind and went out of there way to help with anything. I'm told the resort has a new owner (s?), who seems to have made some great updates to the property, especially in the restaurant. Tasty food, they have a new Trager, which I hear is a big deal for Barbecue. One thing that could make this spot more perfect would be a beach area. Resort is pretty high up from the river, there are incredible views, but water access isn't as easy. They do have a dock which is great for launching your kayaks, boats, etcetera, but not the best for just swimming and hanging beside the water. Just down the road, a 3 minute drive, is a boat launch/dock/park picnic area. Across the highway (a small Montana highway) is a small grocery store with deli that makes breakfast sandwiches, burritos, and regular sandwiches. If you're looking for coffee, I believe they open a little earlier than the motel's restaurant. There are also two other bar/restaurant options nearby all within walking distance. Also a great wedding venue, I attended a wedding here years ago that was stunning! The Clark Fork is known for fishing, so if you've got an avid fisherman in your life, take them to Trout Creek or anywhere in the surrounding area, they won't be disappointed. If you're just looking for a quiet, low-key getaway in small town Montana, the last best place, Lakeside Motel and Resort is a great option.
