Having…read moredriven by it several times, and noticing the art installation and gardens, I was curious but never had a good reason to stop by and investigate. However, ever since I started following Art Equals on social media, I discovered that there are events open to public inside the Hellman Creative Center. It's not just Artist Studios, as the sign would suggest. And, as it turns out, I am a big fan! Open, inviting, and clean, the inside of this historic building has been beautifully renovated. There is a large meeting/conference room just off the lobby. Beyond that, there are artists' studios and a small kitchenette. I attended a Zine Lab with Art Equals and had a fantastic time learning about Zines and creating one of my one. Stop by and take part in this excellent addition to the art scene in Covington.

This building was originally a sawmill and has been beautifully redesigned as a community space, spot for artists, and people who do good in the community (refugee settlement, help with taxes, cross-cultural training, learning how to respond to conflict, etc.). My favorite space, besides the community rooms, is Empower Tools. This is a free service for those with a Kenton County library card. An individual can rent tools for their art, lawn, home repair, moving supplies, or pruning needs. You have up to 3 tools for a week, without the need to maintain them. Perfect for someone like me who struggles with all the oils and fine tuning of home equipment!

I have a long history (almost 2 decades) with…read moreDelhi and like many areas in Cincinnati, there's good and bad aspects that comprise a complex socioeconomic structure that is probably only understood by living there and soaking up the "culture". Delhi's relative isolation enable it to maintain a firm grasp on slices of Americana and a special place in my heart: from the Skirt Game to "walking the pike" and numerous Catholic church festivals. If you do venture into "The Floral Paradise of Ohio", be sure to drive along Delhi Pike and explore Delhi Park, and fill your stomach with some Delhi Chili, and an ice cream from Sweet's N Eat's.

The neighborhood doesn't exactly sparkle, but I was optimistic and took a little drive to check it out. What I found was a house that was just that. A house labeled "Community Center." I guess it is serving a purpose as a meeting center or an very small assembly hall, but that's about it. Just didn't fit what I was looking for.

I've been here a dozen times over the years and each time has been like trolling for gold. I almost always find something I want but hardly the things I need. Today was not one of those days however. I went to find office chairs with wheels and I found the cache that knocked my socks off! Don't bother even showing up to this place if you're not there on behalf of a not-for-profit because they will not allow you to shop. They are planning to set up some days where normal people and individuals can come to shop but they said that this is probably months from now. They have everything from cream Brûlée torches to wine decanters. ....And why exactly would a nonprofit need a wine decanter or cream Bruleé torch?:) i'm really looking forward to them opening it up for individuals to shop. Not only that they had put both my children and out over another clients word on top of packing all my belongings up when they stated that my belongings would not be touched. It's sad that this suppose to be a domestic violence shelter yet when you are there you relive the trauma over and over again. Tiffany Wilson is the worse director ever she shouldn't even be in her position as she does not care if you have children or not or the fact that I contiually asked to speak with her about having to go to court against my abuser. I was there over three weeks and she was at the shelter one time. House of Peace in Clermont County is where I was at. I was called white privileged and a bad mom on top of other things by my roommate who was black and was told to leave the program because I used hate speech that I never said at all. So it's funny how when you get on their website they stay they eliminate rasicm And empower women because neither one of those things are true

I've been going to the gym here for a while now since I wrote my last review…read more I really enjoy working out here. The gym is small, without being too small. They always have enough machines, weights, and space. However, I usually come during the non-peak hours due to my work schedule and inability to wake up earlier than I have to in the morning. There are plenty of ellipticals, treadmills, and bikes in the cardio section and every weight machine and free weights that you could want to use. The pool is the largest pool of all the gyms downtown, with three lanes, there is always one open when I'm there. A plus is the jacuzzi and dry sauna. The staff is always friendly and with your membership you can take any of the classes they offer. I went to my first spinning class last week and it kicked my butt! Memberships are pretty affordable depending on how you pay and when you come. You'll pay as much as you do going to any of those big chain gyms, have a more personal experience, and know that you are also supporting a good organization.

School, civic and service groups also come to Peaslee for it's unique Community Education Program which seeks to educate learners about Over-the-Rhine through service in the neighborhood and reflection on the deeper issues affecting the urban core. I don't think I utilize this center enough- as a CRC or town space, but then again, I'm not sure…read more(minus camps and Zumba I sometimes see on the reader board) what goes on here regularly. Twice I've been for a first time home buyers class and recently a composting seminar. I often have a CRC pass to play volleyball, but the gym here looks a bit too small for that. Sad, as that'd be ultra-convenient. There is a nice green space and playground outside of this town hall. I've also heard a ghost is rumored in the attic. It sounds about right. More than anything here, I love that from my house- blocks away- I can hear the music that comes out of the town hall. I think this structure, idea, and physical space gives me a sense of Westwood, the city's largest neighborhood, and I'm proud to be a part of it. I hope this place becomes more familiar to me in the months to come.

Plus, their fun gift shop and small library with lots of gardening reference books. Lots of the plants outside are labeled so you can see for yourself how well they grow in this area. Plus they have green roofs and so many ways to make it ecologically favorable as well as giving you ideas how you might do so yourself. It's wonderful to see this pretty landscaping not far from a fairly busy road. Do yourself a favor and visit them sometime. What a gem!

Today, I voted early. This year, I had requested an absentee ballot (you know, cause the pandemic…read moreand all that). I think the decision to request an absentee ballot was made in a bit of a panic, and I later decided that I would have preferred to vote in person. I decided to bring my mail-in ballot with me and ask them if I could vote in-person instead. When I arrived, I saw the "early voting" sign upon entry. I also saw a line inside upon entering and started to get in line, it turns out that line was for drivers licenses. After finding the early voting area, I talked to a staff member and asked them about voting in-person instead of using my mail-in ballot. Be warned, I was told that because I had already requested my mail-in ballot, I could not vote in-person and should just fill out the ballot and drop it in the box on-site. While it wasn't my preference (I'm not sure why, just a mental thing I suppose), that was fine with me. I filled out the rest of my ballot, and dropped it into the box. The woman at the desk was kind enough to help me seal the envelope. There was no line for early voting and it seemed pretty seamless. I did see someone wearing a politically-affiliated face mask advocating for a candidate in the polling area. I'm not sure if the same rules apply to this place not on Election day, but I'm pretty sure you can't do that (and think something should have been said). Regardless, with the process this easy, there's no excuse to not have your voice heard. Think of yourself, your loved ones, and go make your voice heard. VOTE!!!!!!
