Isn't it fun when you ask one employee for assistance and receive the wrong info? After getting a loyalty card in the last century, left it at home when in the store. The only solution after many failed attempts at finding me in the 'system' was to apply for a new card! Each employee seemed clueless yet friendly. Being that this is only one of two supermarkets in Great Barrington, it's unfortunate that I would have to give this store such a low rating. I find the prices much higher then Big Y and the selections much less. I am gluten free and they only have a few items in one little section of the store. That is not really my reason for the low rating though. I find most of the staff (certainly not all of them) to be very rude and seemingly unconvinced when you walk in. I have watched a friend and counter supervisor yell and degrade another woman who was working at the checkout. I have also witnessed cashiers having conversations in front of you people that were inappropriate, especially in front of their customers. I only go here when I'm running short on time. I do want to say that I love the people that work in the meat department. I feel they are always friendly. read more

I am going to go out on a limb and guess that Price Chopper does not care what customers think about their service, seeing as there is only one other grocery store in town and PC delivers pretty lousy service. A nasty smell when you first walk in. Produce is all chemically produced. Seafood smells rotten 6 days a week. Meat is nasty. Most of the bakery is not even baked in the store. Dairy shelves are typically in disarray. The deli has the worst brands. The pizzas and chickens are awful. The worst is that they have a bunch of self checkouts but usually only one or two registers open. They expect you, the paying customer to ring yourself out. I always thought that part of the cost of the grocery purchase was to have someone ring me out and bag my groceries. read more

Price chopper is a normal low end grocery store. The people who work there are obviously unhappy to be there, but they do their best to do a decent job. Except the pharmacy. The pharmacy is a good pharmacy in that they were able to get me pills unattainable by CVS, however the Pharmacist himself comes across as a miserable misanthropic grump who makes one feel bad for asking questions about one's meds. I'm not sure he even answered them correctly. He is unpleasant every single time I have encountered him. PC pharmacy is quicker than CVS, but it isn't worth it. read more

I'm not really sure what to say about Price Chopper. It's your typical large supermarket. In a town like Great Barrington you don't really have much choice in large supermarkets - so chances are you will do your shopping there. It's clean enough and it's located in a shopping plaza with a lot of other shops to make sure your needs are met in one easy location. read more

Tried to bring some bottles back for redemption but the machine was not working. Had to return the bags back to my car. Went in to get lobsters that were on sale. Must have been invisible-waited a while for nothing as they were out of lobsters and there are no rain checks. Same for the eggs that were on sale as well as rotisserie chickens. Finally get to check out and there are only two registers open-waited in line. Finally able to check out and the cashier did not lift a finger to help me pack. I have been a loyal customer for many years but it is getting time to go elsewhere. PC needs to be more service oriented and take notes how Big Y and Publix run their stores!! read more

Price Chopper is a convenient option late at night, however if you have to go to any price chopper in the berkshires I would skip this one and go to lenox or pittsfield Market 32. The biggest problem I have in the great barrington price chopper is that some of the employees in the checkout area seem kind of squirrely (maybe because their bored or unhappy) and, to echo another reviewer, seem to have innappropriate and untactful conversations in front of customers. If I didn't know any better it would seem to me like pissing off customers might be strongly emphasized in this store's customer service training. read more

The fish monger at this location really stands out. The guys behind the counter are friendly and eager to talk about food. I think that speaks volumes about what you can expect from the fish. And their fish and chips is great! Crispy, tasty, and made to order. Furthermore, when they steam lobsters, they do a stellar job. The meat slides out of the shell with ease and it tastes fantastic (even without butter). I'd give it five stars but there never seems to be enough checkout tellers and there is often a line. My advice; self-service checkout lanes. Truthfully, I'm not one for writing online reviews, but my lunch inspired me. Thanks for the fish fry! read more

I inquired at the customer service desk to see about my Advantage card that was incorrect due to their screw up on my replacement card. I ask how do I get my now new number on my app on my phone and the customer service lady scans my card, tells me my name and says I need to call the 800 number. She looked annoyed that I stepped up to the desk and not to mention she was very rude. I would kind of expect something like that from a younger generation worker with the entitlement attitude but this worker was obviously not that. Just a rude lady in a bad mood. read more

Produce department is horrible compared with other locals (i.e. Guido's and Big Y etc.) The "all natural" rotisserie chicken is NOT certified organic and I believe it makes my skin break out & itch!!! ground beef is something i use alot of. 2x i bought 85% at 4.99 lb. Some employees are very helpful when you're shopping. When it comes time to check out there is staff wandering around the service desk, one being a manager and they do not pack your groceries. I do not get a discount to pack my own groceries. I understand it is not a hard thing to do but when staff is gossiping about other coworkers instead of doing their jobs it's very frustrating. Many times there is only a couple of registers open and lines with a lot of people who are just as frustrated as the next. read more

This used to be my favorite store. I felt like they had good sales and it was consistent. I will not return here. Over the course of a few months, I had half and half that was sour and curdled even though the expiration date was about a month away. I have picked through soggy cucumbers with no drag ones available. Today was the last straw. I went to make dinner, opened my package of chicken and it was rancid. Again, the date said it was fine. I was already irritated that I had to return to the store to return the chicken and had nothing to prepare for dinner. They were great about the return, no issues there. Did my shopping, bought some different chicken from the butcher shop to make when I got home. Opened the package.....Apple Panko crusted cutlets...... You guessed it. Rancid. I understand things happen. But I work 2 jobs and don't have time to go to the store three times in one night to make dinner. It's just unacceptable to have this happen over and over. Very disappointing. I grew up going to this grocery store and my mother even worked here. It was totally different. Every staff member that works there seems to feel under appreciated and overworked and exudes that energy on the customers; Ive seen it time and time again. Cash out area is always understaffed and nothing is done about it. I go to Big Y and if there is a line you can see people making a serious effort to call people up to ring and bag. The quality and cleanliness of the store has also gone way down hill. Ive never made it a point to go there for seafood but in a pinch its been fine. The past 2 times the guy behind the counter doesn't seem to care much as all of the seafood is frozen solid and there is no variety. This is a case of quality over convenience, I would rather drive across town and wait in traffic to get better quality and service. Service is so big there and it just feels like this Price Chopper is in limbo, halfway between being shutdown or an outpost that no one cares about. I like this grocery store. However, I had bad experience with the store's cashier - Kimberly F (July 6 2015). She was rude to me, never smiled, even though I was polite and smiled to her. She was not helpful and seemed very angry. Both me and my friends experienced rude treatment. I love this grocery store because of the people that work there.They go out of their way to help you in any way they can whether it's working with a recipe when you need a special cut of meat or running back to get you a second item when it "BOGO" and I might have missed it. The produce is always fresh and they will always go back and check if you want either fresher or more of an item. Price Chopper gives extraordinary customer service. I called to check availability of two different items: diced tomatoes with Chilis and canned black eyed peas. I was making a great recipe my friend from Texas gave me for 'Texas Caviar'. I could not find these anywhere. The person, Shane, let me know which aisle they were in, the brand of each product and that they were on sale. I have never been so warmly greeted and given service.
