It's true -- he and his office ARE homey, but its the same feeling of calmness and comfort that I get when I waffe the smell of a good apple pie in my kitchen while I'm looking out of the window at the garden. I like that. I dig the fact that the office is in a remodeled Palo Alto house with some other doctors and dentists. As for his work, no complaints on my part as I've had fillings and other work done. He and his hygenists have been gentle enough to keep this scaredy cat coming back. And as for the other review that said her second dentist found all these other problems with her teeth... please consider that the dentist, like some car mechanics, might be telling her all the "problems" to make more money so that they can pay their rent and insurance. That's where you have to feel trust in the person who's handling you, and I have complete trust in Dr. Armistead.

(You know, I'm not a dentist, and I am not seeking a second opinion.) She seems fairly conservative in what she recommends for my teeth and gums. And what she recommends, works. So I trust her professional judgment. Just had three cavities filled yesterday - not a big deal and no pain today. Or last night. Maybe four years ago, can't recall, another dentist, Shiyu Wang, DDS, did a root canal here in this same office, and while he was doing it, I .... fell asleep. Yeah. That has to be a good sign. And no, I was not drugged up at the time. This is a tiny office with views all over East Oakland, because you are up on the fifth floor. It seemed unsanitary, but what can I do with half my tooth pulled out and waiting for him to pull out the other half. He quoted me $220 and when he finished he said $230. He seem reluctant on prescribing me pain medication and anti inflammatory. I'm in excruciating pain and was told by older male dentist to take tylenol every three hours and combine it with ibuprofen. I was given 4 loose tcl 341 pills in an ziplock and not prescribed an anti inflammatory. I called to let him know that Im in unbearable pain and ask if I could be prescribed something stronger. He told me just take a tylenol in 3 hours instead of 6 and completely ignored the pain I can't bear. I paid $230 cash for the extraction and now I have to go to the emergency to be helped by another dentist which is going to be another bill just to get the pain and anti inflammatory meds I need. I'm glad I didn't choose to waste my benefits here. I won't be getting any other work done.

He replaced my porcelain veneers with sturdy composite crowns about a decade ago. My dentist brother, who practices in Monterey and specializes in cosmetic dentistry was impressed with Dr. Ho's artistry. After being a biannual dental patient with strong healthy teeth, a floss twice a day, take care of myself girl for life, I had some health issues starting in 2019, including broken back, which rendered me immobile for about a year, during covid. My insurance changes and the office changing location did not help, but ya know.....No excuses. The truth is that I had not had a true dentist appointment in over 5 years ( save for a drive by cleaning from my brother's hygienist a couple of years ago.) Today was that first appointment in 5 YEARS and i left South City Smile smiling ear to ear. i was expecting it to be a painful and excruciatingly expensive visit, requiring follow ups,for cavities and a root canal as punishment for neglecting my dental health and not carrying dental insurance. To my surprise and delight, the appointment was pain free, no cavities and a clean bill of dental health. My mouth feels fresh and clean. Best of all, the bill for cleaning, exam and X rays was reasonable. Angelica and Lyndia are the sweetest. At South City Smile, the equipment and ambiance are state of the art. When i gagged at the xray bite wing thingies, the hygienist found smaller ones to accommodate my small mouth and made the x- ray process much more palatable! Dr. Ho performs a thorough exam and did most of the cleaning himself and his chair side manner is above reproach. I was praised for my hygiene and habits of brushing and flossing well, rather than being chided for neglecting my appointments for years. Thank you to South City Smile and the amazing Dr Ho. There is so much chatter about the state of your dental health being a reflection of your overall health. This 56-year old, aging ingenue and geriatric micro- influencer (my son's nickname for me) will be sleeping well tonight. Please do not follow my example of putting yourself last. If, however, you have been neglecting your smile, or need a new dental practice, make your appointment today!

That alone speaks to the trust and confidence we have in this practice. The staff is always welcoming, kind, and friendly, making every visit a pleasant experience. Over the years, I've had everything from routine cleanings and fillings to a recent root canal, and Dr. Ho has consistently been professional, attentive, and thorough. He takes the time to explain procedures, makes sure I'm comfortable, and always delivers excellent results. I trust him completely with my dental care because he genuinely cares about his patients and the quality of his work. I'm currently undergoing Invisalign treatment, and I'm thrilled with my progress so far. I'm excited to see the final results! I've recommended Dr. Ho to both my family and coworkers, and I wouldn't hesitate to continue doing so. The only area I think could use some improvement is scheduling. One of my appointments had to be rescheduled three different times before we were able to find a time that worked. While I understand that schedules can change, last-minute adjustments can be difficult to accommodate, especially with a busy work schedule. Overall, Dr. Ho and his team provide outstanding dental care, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, caring, and trustworthy dentist.
