I went in to see Dr. Adeyi for my annual physical, and my visit exceeded expectations. Parking was ample and convenient. The facility is modern, clean, and looks beautiful. The front desk staff was kind and attentive (they even brought me cold water!). I was taken to the back by Nurse Florrie, who is just the sweetest woman. She was friendly, kept the mood light, and listened actively while I took her down the long, twisty road of my medical history. She, along with the front desk staff set the tone for my visit, and helped put my mind at ease. Dr. Adeyi was everything I hoped she would be, and more. Her reputation preceeded her, but even still, she exceeded my expectations. She was so kind, patient, and compassionate. I am usually very nervous in doctors' offices, due to some trauma from previous experiences. With Dr. Adeyi and Florrie, I never once felt uncomfortable. I felt that Dr. Adeyi really aimed to collaborate with me on my care, balancing her expertise with my preferences and lived experiences. Finally, I have a place that I can call home for my healthcare, with providers I can trust. I told Hailey that mom was not in pain so not an urgent matter but would like to get the testing and treatment process started. My mother, Ethelyn Foley had taken her first outing on the bus and gone to get her hair done at a nearby salon around 1:00 on Wednesday. We got no further communication from Hartley as far as timing or appointment times were concerned. My mother reports that as she was sitting in the hairdressers chair, a woman walked in asking for her by name. My mom acknowledged that was her name. The woman approached an crouched down next to mom and said, "We understand you might be getting a bladder infection. We are here to take your urine sample for testing. You can go to their bathroom in the back and go ahead and give us a sample in this cup (holding up a sample cup). My mother is very hard of hearing (she is 100 years old) and could not understand what she was being asked for. The nurse repeated herself more loudly now - so mom could hear. Mom was so stunned and confused she reluctantly complied with the request going into the bathroom at the salon and give a urine sample for the lady - at a hair salon! Everyone in the salon saw and heard what had transpired and mom was mortified. She was so shocked and embarrassed she did not know what to do. I called her later in the day to see if she enjoyed gertting her hair done and this is the story I was told. I am angry at the unprofessionalism of that action and feel like her HIPPA rights have been grievously violated. I will be seeking legal advice on this matter.

The reason I've decided to write a few is because I've only been in this area a little over a year now. Coming from world class health care in Boston, and trying to navigate health care here has been shall I say, ummm- traumatizing. Hey, call it extreme, but that's the best word I could find. I bank on Yelp reviews at times, and a few good ones really would've come in handy. So maybe mine will help you or someone you love or care about or heck, don't know at all. I asked friends and co-workers for their personal recommendations, tried a few, and ehh, no matches. I finally decided to look for some providers near my residence and read some bios. I came across Dr. Hudson. She was close, and she obtained one of her degrees from Howard University. Why not give her a try for PCP? I met her, and we clicked immediately! She's warm, personable, has a weird, quirky (kinda nerdy) sense of humor, and is just really down to Earth. She's friendly. She actually LISTENS, and here's the kicker- she KNOWS her MEDICINE. Very, very smart lady. Her MA, Theresa is great. If she says she's going to call you back, she actually calls you back! Can you believe that? It's not weeks later either. Like, she really calls you back in a timely fashion, and speaks with you as if she really cares, like you're the only patient she deals with. The two ladies at check-in, are hilarious. They should have a comedy show. I've never gone and they weren't in the best of moods. Amazing. Only reason I deducted a star is because you WILL wait. A while. Doesn't really seem to matter what your appointment time is. You're gonna wait 15-20 minutes AFTER that to be seen. Just PLAN for it, and bring your phone or a magazine. If you want a good PCP in the Cobb County/Woodstock/Kennesaw/Marietta area, here she is! In fact, I now make the drive from ITP out to Cobb to see her. Not interested in anyone else. Yep. She's THAT good.
