4.5 stars One of the most beautiful courthouses I've seen. This place is front and center, surrounded my historic buildings. I'm surprised they didn't have most of the floors blocked off, since we were able to go all the way to the top and getting the 360 view. There are old photos and woodwork along the way. The Presidio County Courthouse is one of the gems you will find in Marfa. As someone who went to law school, I may have an affinity for courthouses that most people don't share but this is truly a beautiful building. In addition to serving as Marfa's courthouse, it is a landmark and historical building. We took a stroll around the courthouse on a Thursday afternoon and everything inside is tidy and clean. The main attraction is walking up to the roof of the courthouse. You'll have to climb several sets of stairs, including winding staircases, until you reach the top. As you get close, there are some photos on the wall that show what Marfa looked like in the 1920's. Cool to see how life was during those times with horse-drawn buggies and such. Once you reach the top, you are gifted a panoramic view of the town of Marfa. The courthouse is centrally located so you're in the perfect position. A great place to snap some photos. At night, the courthouse lit up but my best guess is that these were installed for the holidays and that they are not a nightly occurrence. read more

The courthouse is beautiful - historic, renovated and well cared for. You MUST drop by and climb to the top of the Courthouse for the best (and only) 365 view of Marfa. The Courthouse is, by far, the tallest building in Marfa, and the cupola room at the top (not handicap accessible) affords such a picaresque view that it's well worth the climb (the building has an elevator to floors 1-3, which house various offices, but the design of the upstairs doesn't really leave room for an elevator.) Beautiful woodwork and antique furniture are lovely, too. And, beyond the aesthetics/tourist experience, I can vouch for the services as well. The County Clerk was exceptionally friendly and prompt in helping me look up some records in the vault. NOTE: City services are in a separate building a short distance away - Marfa City Hall, also on Highland. read more

The pink stucco exterior makes this well-designed building a standout in Marfa. Designed by San Antonio architect Alfred Giles, this courthouse cost $60,000 and was modeled after another he designed for El Paso. It opened in 1887 and was renovated in 2001. Unfortunately, the top floor was closed for maintenance but a peek at the interior was well worth it. The pecan woodwork brings a warmth to the cheery yellow paint. Courthouses aren't known for enjoyment but this one looks like a comfortable place to work. read more

My husband and I wanted a quick, non-traditional, chilled out wedding with no guests and this was the perfect place. The building itself is so beautiful. The judge was super cool, happy to chat with us and take photos. We arrived here at 5pm on a Friday and we were married by 5.30pm. Would definitely recommend this place! read more

My favourite spot in all Marfa, because of the observation deck at the top! From here, on a clear day, you have a superlative 360 degree view of the whole city and beyond. I could have stayed for a long time, happily peering out. The historic court house itself is nice to walk through. Lots of polished, dark wood, angled stairs and old-fashioned furniture -- it's very calming to amble along, basking in the old-timey atmosphere of it all. The building has been beautifully restored, thanks to a grant from the Texas Historical Commission. The fifth floor observation deck is open to the public and free. read more

Beautiful old West Texas County Courthouse. Monday through Friday between 9am-4:30pm you can walk in and go to the dome and take pictures. About the highest place in town so you can get some great shots. read more

Quite possibly one of the most attractive courthouses I've ever seen. The courtrooms could easily be film locations for old-timey courtroom dramas. And the cupola at the top of the stairs has amazing views. Definitely worth a trip inside! read more
