Being an avid practitioner in various martial arts, I go where I can when I can to get some practice in and hopefully some good quality training. I only had one night to train with the students and instructors here but that being said I could tell this was a great school! The instructors were exciting, attentive, and more than willing to help everyone with techniques and skills being taught. Students also loved training together and were very helpful catching me up to speed with what they have been going over the past few weeks. I'm glad I spent the night training here, Grandmaster James Cox and his wife seem to know just how to run a successful dojo, and raise students to become successful black belts! I wish all of them the best of luck for the years of training they have ahead. read more

I am biased. I am a student of Kajukenbo, and I was interested in broadening my repertoire with the almighty K rav Maga, as a supplement to the softness and complexities of my art. I had seen premier all over the internet , on fliers, and on peoples vehicles, and didnt know much more about it. I decided to give it a try. Sigung Cox is the active president of the American Kajukenbo Association, and had been doing Kajukenbo for decades. Plus, he is the only Krav Maga (KM) in Abilene. He spoke to me on the phone, even returned my calls when I left him a message. I was impressed that someone of his notoriety and rank would contact me personally. We scheduled an introductory lesson, and I was excited. The introductory lesson was great. He addressed all my questions, gave me an overview of how KM would be, and we trained in his octagon. I was humbled and excited. While we had our introductory lesson, there was a kids lesson of some kind, like a bjj class. There wasnt much order, and the class was being taught by siboks ( student level black belts), but i figured that it was okay for them to teach kids. We got to talking prices. Fairly expensive, but I figured that if i could earn a black belt AND learn KM, BJJ, and Kickboxing, I would be spending my money well. By the way, the prices werent listed anywhere I looked. What I was offered was the "black belt program", for $115 a month with 200 down, for 36 months, roughly 5k. If youre looking for a martial arts school, NEVER go for the time based gimmick. Black belts should be earned and be examples of your study and time and ability, not just longevity. At least thats my opinion. I was offered a chance to actually attend a Kaju class for free before committing. So, i geared up, allowed to keep my orange belt. i Arrived at class 10 minutes early. Sigung Cox was at the front desk, a kids class was being taught by blackbelts. I looked to Sigung cox and bowed to him, as is tradition. He said "you caome for the class? Cool! Go warm up and get ready!", but didnt bow, and went back to his business. I went back, started stretching and drilling, and waited for class to start. Eventually, a high level black belt , possibly fourth degree, went to the front of the class. I went to fall in, in belt rank, as is tradition, but everyone else just milled about. The black belt began our class, without calling us to attention or observing any tradition at all. i thought this was irreverent. We went thourgh a lot of exercising. after that, we were taught an elbow drill. Then, we were taught to practice them with a partner. As we did the drills, we recieved no criticism or critique, and everyone flailed about. Then we did some stick drills, and everyone flailed about. I did not like that no one was corrected for form or technique. Throughout all of this, Sigung Cox talked with his new hire at his desk. He never offered any kind of instruction. Then, class was over. We actually did kind of bow out, but not really. I respect Sigung Cox for his rank, his position in Kaju Ohana, and for his Presidency in the AKA. I respect that he is teaching or having others teach the art i so love. However, I did NOT like the lack of reverence, tradition, or attention to technique in this lesson i recieved. I ultimately decided the Premeir martial arts school wasnt for me. read more

I worked out here 7 years ago and stopped going because we moved out of town. I recently started working out here again and I love it. It's a great workout for a reasonable price. I also enjoy my workout which is something I can't say about of a lot of other places I've worked out. read more

Established in 2007.

In 2007, Abilene Kajukembo became Premier Martial Arts. PMA is a successful school licensing program that serves to improve the lives of our students by implementing a modern approach to the mixed martial arts. In 2008, we became an affiliate of "The Pit" Hawaiian Kempo with John Hackleman and UFC legend, Chuck Liddell. Currently, I run a full-time school with more than 350 active students. To date, I have promoted and mentored 122 top quality black belt students as well as manage a successful MMA competition fight team.

Meet the Business Owner: James C.

Over a 25 year period, I competed in an average of 25 tournaments a year and fought more than 1,800 sport karate fights in more than 600 tournaments. I proudly placed in the top three at every tournament. I usually won first, was undefeated some years and won countless Grand Championships. I retired with a sanctioned full contact kickboxing record of 11 wins and 2 losses with two National middle weight titles and also won several unsanctioned boxing and MMA fights. I regularly perform demonstrations all over, as well as schedule motivational speaking engagements and teach seminars for all types of organizations. These include schools, universities, churches, law enforcement agencies, etc. Currently, I run a full-time school with more than 350 active students. To date, I have promoted and mentored 122 top quality black belt students as well as manage a successful MMA competition fight team.

I enrolled my daughter two months ago, and I have not regretted the decision at all. She's 12 and I wanted to equip her with the knowledge and skills to defend herself should she ever need to. However, it is more than just a self defense class (which are really awesome), PMA instructors focus not only on the physical aspect, but the over all well-being of an individual. The lessons that they teach will be a positive influence throughout your child's life, and well into adulthood. My husband and I are grateful that we were able to find a center that reflected our own home values.My daughter has learned so much from her instructor(s) and I can see that confidence in her more and more every day. So much so that I've decided to join one of their adult classes, in three short classes, I can already see a difference in my self, physically and mentally. I Will be enrolling my son in a month to join their program as well. I highly recommend this place. Not just for your kids, but as a whole family. Update - I've now enrolled my son, and have also joined their adult program along with the kick boxing classes they offer. I can't tell you how much we look forward to going to class each week. What a difference just a few short weeks make - my son is more focused, he's developing habits of self-discipline, and since he's a little guy, I can see how this is helping him get stronger physically and more coordinated. I've been at Premier Martial Arts for a few years. In this time I learned so much from all the instructors. I've learned to believe in myself, to look for the positive and that I am able to push myself to accomplish my goals. I have lost over 130 pounds since starting back in 2017. I have only begun to gain the knowledge that all the instructors know. Being part of Premier Martial arts you are part of a family. They dont let you give up and they help you when you need it. It's a fun atmosphere with good cardio workouts for kick boxing and lots of martial arts knowledge as well as the different styles we learn. Hands down I would recommend Premier Martial Arts for anyone with kids and also adults. They have several classes available for your busy schedule. This is the place that has the IT factor. HEY EVERYONE!! My personal experience here at Premier Martial Arts in Abilene has been an amazing and positive experience for the past 3 YEARS and still counting!! I started as a young troubled teenager, attending 2 classes a week, as the months went by I started to really grasp the knowledge and personal development I was being given. 6 months down this life changing road I started to help out with the kids classes, i found a love, passion and desire to teach the kids the SAME thing that had a life changing effect on me! Premier Martial Arts is an amazing place. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They genuinely care about everyone they train. Since I enrolled my daughter in I have seen so much improvement in her physically as well as her focus and confidence. I started Kickboxing classes for myself but then decided to take adult self defense classes also. I recommend PMA to any parent who is looking for extracurriculars for their child/children and also anyone looking for fitness, self defense training, etc for themselves. I can not begin to describe how much this place has helped my family. My son has very bad ADHD and we put him in class and now he is not getting in trouble in school and is able to focus. My husband has always had a lot of pent up frustration and ever since starting class in always smiling and having a good time in class and out of class. We also absolutely love all the instructors they do a fantastic job even on the days my son has a hard time focusing. My children have been going to PMA for a little over a year. James has been amazing with us, working with us on an individual level to insure my children and I are happy and satisfied. Our grandson won a birthday party and this was the beginning. PMA believes in strict self control and discipline. He started on his 7th birthday and we signed up for 3 years, but I see a life time as he enjoys his days, He will not let us miss a day. And all the instructors GM Cox, Mr Aaron, Mr Thomas and Mr Ethan are superb instructors to the younger students.
