Situated at the bottom of Kirkgate, just off the Ring Road, The Huddersfield Hotel is an elegant…read moreold building with a very up to date interior. It has 39 comfortable rooms, two award winning restaurants and a late night cocktail bar. There are also a couple of conference rooms. The original cast of Last of the Summer Wine often used to stay here and there are many pictures of them dotted about the place. We once enjoyed a pleasant weekend staying in the Rivelaux suite, named after Baron Wilson of Rievaulx (Harold Wilson, former prime minister, who was born in Huddersfield). We had a toddler at the time, and he was also made to feel very welcome.

The outside area appeared unkempt as were the supposedly garden area was,the pavement and patio areas full of weeds between the paving slabs, The food at lunch was atrocious I ordered a rib eye steak sandwich, when it arrived the ( rib eye ) meat was off , it was rancid, it smelled awful , it appears the chef has lost his sense of smell, Would I book this hotel again, no ! I would sooner by food from the local Aldi and a tent from go outdoors and camp on the local field

The beds were just a tad hard for our taste, but that's all I could possibly complain about. Everything else was great, especially the free WLAN (Swisscom!), great room service food (delicious burger with proper chips) and a tasty breakfast with bacon, bangers, hash browns and all sorts of fruit, cereal and pastries. Excellent value for money, especially when comparing it to what we would have paid for three nights in a hotel back in Switzerland. :-) Service was very attentive and friendy. Now that we're back home we miss being asked if we wanted a poached egg in a Yorkshire accent. A very pleasant stay.

We enjoyed the timeless pub-like atmosphere and the well crafted, reasonably-priced drinks while relaxing in comfortable chairs. We didn't have dinner there but it has been good in the past. I wish the bar area was a little cozier.

Our twin room was very well appointed and comfortable although bathroom was small and the single wardrobe was cramped. Overall though we were very satisfied for a one night stay. Our evening meal was beautifully cooked and presented, although our reserved table was in the centre of a family birthday party which made conversation difficult. It was a fairly noisy evening with parties but the worst late night noise came from the pub next door where bottles were thrown into bins into the early hours and shouting from their customers kept us awake. However, this hotel has great atmosphere, a good selection of drinks and an excellent breakfast menu. Would recommend it to anyone although perhaps not those with young children.

TV - This only had 5 basic channels on, so advise to take a laptop with some Dvd's if u wanting a night in. The setting is very 'olde worlde' oak panelled room, very attentive service by the waiting staff and the food itself was to a very good quality for the money. This venue is most definately on our hit list of regular dining venues now - to pay £10 for three courses, when you can pay almost that for one course in most pubs... well it's staggering. We were even allowed to change the wine into two generous coffees after (as we don't usually drink alcohol when eating a good meal) Highly recommended, particularly for the price, and quality of dining venue.
