LandTech actually responded to our inquiry. It's puzzling that so many organizations - and I'm not just indicting landscaping companies - fail to respond to customer inquiries. Come on, business owners, if you're going to spend the money for an ad and a website, call potential customers back. It's even more foolish when companies fail to respond to a prospect that has been referred by a previous customer! Karl, LandTech's landscape architect, listened to our objectives and created a thoughtful, executable plan. Not some junk scrawled on the back of a burger wrapper but a full-fledged, color blueprint that defines dimensions and plant-types. Yeah, you have pay for this kind of service, but you own the plan. Customers can elect to have LandTech do a turnkey job (source the materials and install and mulch them) where I believe the cost of the plan gets waived. Or, they'll do parts of it, split the overall project into phases, or let the customers implement it on their own. If you're going to spend good money on a hardscape project, quality is imperative. We've seen patios and driveways that have cracked or become wavy because they were not installed correctly. Wayne, LandTech's owner, regularly sends his people to get industry and manufacturer training and certifications. Plus, LandTech is a real business - they're licensed, bonded and insured. Lastly, they use high-quality materials, not the stuff they sell at Home Depot. Aside from the quality, LandTech is thoughtful in its execution. The walkway, patio and retaining wall project the company installed for us has an artistic element to it. They used paver stones of various sizes culled from a mixed but complementary color palate - some even stacked vertically - to create a truly unique, Old World look. It's a far cry from the "sea of cement" retainer walls commonly found at commercial buildings or along highways. Additionally, LandTech maintained a clean workspace in which tools were put away at the end of each day and no trash was left behind. Wayne clearly runs a tight ship. He expects his team to execute flawlessly and efficiently. Serving customers in both the Lynchburg and Charlottesville markets, he has to set the bar high in order to compete. We witnessed several occasions where his supervisors stopped the team to have them do re-do their work. We were greatly impressed by how quickly LandTech completed our project. We also appreciated that LandTech accommodated our requests which, at times, meant making changes to the scope of the project in mid-stride. Most importantly, we were grateful for LandTech's "we'll make it right" policy which the company lived up to when, months after the project's completion, the company fixed a loose capstone for us. We would recommend LandTech without hesitation.

Land Tech said it was better to wait till the ground completely settled, and address back filling in the Spring. I agreed. Now it has settled and there is some erosion caused by where the land settled. I called Land Tech who told me erosion is beyond their control, but have a nice day. Not the best warranty or customer service as far as I am concerned.

There were numerous transitions and surfaces changing in pitch and several hundred feet of ridge line. I stressed that quality was important for me. I did not want any short-cuts or sloppy work and use the best materials as required to get great results. They responded with a quote quickly. Their price was competitive Keep in mind your hiring the people doing the work not the guys with the biggest signs on billboards that never get on the roof. The man quoting the work will be doing the work. That is very valuable to me. they were able to work with my timeframe too. Through the project (to their surprise) I climbed all over the roof several times carrying bundles of shingles or other materials and assessing the workmanship from 2 feet away. I'm an engineer. That's right, the worst people to do work for, and I never even one time had a comment for them to fix something. In fact the owner, who gets on the roof and works all day, came to me to ask if they could redo a section he was not pleased with at his expense because the sun had melted the materials making them not look perfect. This meant they would have to come back an additional day to work in the near 100 degree august heat. Their cut lines are straight, the overhangs are consistent, they feather in the ridge shingles like they should. they stop and replace things that don't look right, they do a great job flashing in valleys and running straight ridges, they use caulk in all the places that need it. They even come back after it's all done to check in on how the shingles settled in with the sun! It's your roof and your money. Hire a marketing company if you want or do like I did and hire a roofing company.
