The sprocket on my garage door broke during the late evening and the first thought that came to mind was that I had to replace the entire unit (not knowing anything about garage door motors). Thus, the following day, I purchased a new unit at the retail price. Now, I had to have it install. The next day, I began searching for installers and after reading many positive reviews (on Yelp & Google), I selected Premier Garage Doors. I contacted Premier (Hector) via Yelp text and got an immediate response. Hector stated that the flat rate for an installation would be $250.00. and that he would be able to fit me into his schedule that same day. When Hector arrived, I explained to him that the sprocket had broken on my current unit and I showed him that I had purchased a replacement unit. Now, for the "good" part. Hector paused, looked at the new unit and stated "you really didn't have to buy that unit. Your current motor is repairable, and I can repair it for a much lesser cost of $140.00." I was truly stunned....to say the least. Here was an individual, about to complete a repair order and at the same time telling me how I can save money. Talk about HONESTY. Not too often this type of honesty is exhibited. Hector could have easily (not say anything) installed the new unit; still charge me the $250.00 and take the old unit with him and sell it for whatever amount he choose. So of course, I agreed to the repairs. After completing the repairs, Hector proceeded about to inspecting the door, the tracks and springs. He found the door to be "out of balance", which he corrected at no extra cost. He advised me of what I can do to maintain my garage door to keep it operating at peak efficiency. SCORE: Premier Garage Doors: $300 (WINNER!) Mesa Garage Doors: $1,497 (LOSER!) I had Mesa Garage Doors provide an estimate for the repair or replacement of a single car garage door based upon their $599 sale and/or $350 savings promotion that's saturation advertised on TV and radio. It was a door they'd originally installed ~10 years ago and serviced more recently. An unfriendly estimator showed up, took his measurements, and provided an estimate of $1,497 which included the "environmental disposal" and a new battery backed-up opener which, according to him, was required by law. I did have the option of signing-off on the opener but would have to re-install the old one myself for $848. He pointed out that the new door would NOT be an exact match of the neighboring 2-car door but it would be close. What happened to the advertised $599 sale or $350 savings? This door didn't qualify for a variety of reasons I still don't understand. I decided to get another estimate and told him so. He mumbled, "You won't find anything cheaper," then left. Well, I DID find someone cheaper...and better...more professional, friendlier, faster, and local with NO upselling. Their estimate for a new complete door was hundreds $$ less but they said they could REPAIR the old door for MUCH, MUCH less...plus the panels would be an EXACT match. 48-hours later our repaired door is done and I couldn't be happier. But more importantly, he was able to fit in the job just a few days after coming out for the estimate, and the quality of the work was excellent--he fine-tuned the lift, adjusted the door position, and lubricated the track and all pivot points.
