I have been going to Dr. Landero's office (Premier Dermatology) for five + years now out of the 20 years I have been having skin cancer issues. I have learned to be patient when I am there on Surgery days. The surgeries run over a lot of times because they make sure and get all of the cancerous tissue removed and also do in house examinations of the tissue. It may take one excision or two, but I would rather wait longer for a clear result than have some left behind. A lot of other Doctors do not have the experienced staff to do in house biopsies. THEY LIED TO ME ABOUT HAVING SKIN CANCER SO THEY COULD GET PAID FOR UNNECESSARY SURGERY. I went in because I was suspicious that a spot on my nose was skin cancer and got a biopsy. About a week later they called, said that it was squamous cell carcinoma, and scheduled me to have surgery the following week. If I was to get surgery, I wanted to make sure it was done as well as possible, so I started reading their reviews in more detail. At this point, I decided I'd rather get surgery somewhere with more consistently positive reviews. I told them I was going to SummitMD Dermatology in Abilene instead and asked them to send my biopsy results there. They did not send the biopsy results, so I got the biopsy redone at Summit MD. The sliver of skin that James Landero cut off was small, so the majority of the original bump on my nose was still there for testing. Then the biopsy results came back NEGATIVE from SummitMD. It was a benign intradermal nevus. If I had trusted Premier Dermatology, I would have gotten surgery that was not needed and went through my life believing I had skin cancer before the age of 30. NEVER NEVER NEVER GO HERE. I am honestly in shock that they had 4.1/5 stars on Google at the time I went here. They deserve to be shut down. I would sue if it wouldn't cost me more to pay a lawyer than what I lost to them. read more

HORRIBLE experience. The office manager needs to be elsewhere for multiple reasons. The Dr is ok, but not as caring as should be with patients who have cancer history. The office/ waiting room/ patient care rooms are dark, HOT, seem dirty. BBB should be made aware. We will not return, and would advise against seeing them. read more

Do. Not. Go. Here. I went to get my warts froze off and she told me I needed a steroid shot in one of the bumps on my leg telling me it was infected. She was very persistent on me having the shot and I was on the fence not knowing what to do because she was basically forcing it on me. It was awful. Here I am 4 months later and I have a dent in my thigh because she put the needle too far down and caused my skins collagen to literally go away. I don't know what's the frick they're doing in Abilene but I do not recommend. #mylegwillneverbethesame. Yay. read more

I should have took the current reviews into consideration when using Dr. Landero and Premier Dermatology but here we are. If you have any dermatological needs at all avoid this place like the plague. The initial visit was simple enough. Took a biopsy from a concerned spot on my back. Dr. Landero was laying the groundworks to start selling me some supplements he gets a kick back on but I can say no, no big deal. Turns out it was indeed melanoma and scheduled visit to have it removed. However, the second visit was the most unprofessional and frankly dangerous interaction I have ever personally seen in a medical setting. To start with I called twice the week of to try to get a timeframe of how long I would be there and the procedure would take so I could plan my work day. No call back. I show up early to the appointment just like I always do to doctor's appointments. Not only is there no one at the front desk, but I can hear folks in the back and I don't see the receptionist until 30 minutes AFTER my appointment. But all this soon makes sense and is minor compared to the real issue I had with Dr. Landero's office. I finally get into the room an hour and fifteen minutes after my appointment time. The receptionist comes back...to be the one to prep me for my procedure! I learn this as she is injecting me with local anesthesia and checks on me and asks "am I nervous?" I reply no and she proceeds to let me know how nervous she is because "I've seen this done before but never done it personally. We had a Medical Assistant quit on us so I'm having to do double duty." Guess that's the reason for zero call backs and long wait right to start. I should have left then but I had already paid the remainder of my deductible (they were quick to collect that). Dr. Landero comes back and starts preparing me for the procedure and I'm glad I spoke up and told him "just so you know I can feel all of that", so he properly anesthetizes the area. You could tell he was feeling rushed. He has the receptionist come back into assist and coaches her the whole way because obviously, she's not a Medical Assistant. The stitching is where you could tell she had no idea what she was doing and they were doing their best to hide the frustration but it was still evident. I'm not going to pretend to have any medical knowledge whatsoever, but when I showed the stitching to a medical professional they confirmed it was not up to par with what a professional dermatologist should be capable of and suggested I go to a local clinic to have some antibiotics applied. It was too late to restitch. I'm not sure of the legality or qualifications of what it takes to apply anesthesia and minor surgery but I'm certainly going to let the proper authorities know. read more

If it could be 0 stars it would be. Awful experience. To start, the office was 78 degrees inside. I waited over an hour to be seen by the Dr.. I was not impressed with their cleanliness or demeanor. When I asked if their AC was broken or could be turned on the nursed told me "I can't turn it on, but since you said you are hot I can" as if the Dr instructed them to turn it off until someone complains. read more

I thought the office staff were very nice and had a great experience in the clinic for a plantar wart freezing. I went two times in 2014. First trip cost me my copay of $20. The second follow up visit cost me $200 to refreeze the wart. I thought thats odd but I wrote a check and went on with my life. Over 4 years later I started getting a bill (with interest!) for this visit...close to $350 plus $40 interest! Not one bill prior to that! I called and the office lady said "Mr. Lohse, I don't even see that they billed your insurance for that visit...I'll take care of this". I continue to get bills monthly and even threats to turn me over to a collection agency written on the bottom of my statement. I have called multiple times and the "lady that does the billing is currently out" is what I get told repeatedly or they don't return my call and most the time answer my call. I am told by physicians that have mentored me that they are not allowed to bill over 90 days from the date of service. They are trying to bill myself over 4 years after the date of service.This is fraudulent and unprofessional behavior. I turned them into the local BBB and curious to see the outcome of all this. In the mean time, folks there are other options in town and after my horrible experience 4 years later I would advise you to go elsewhere. If it wasn't for this I would have been a pleased customer but this is clearly wrong what they are doing. read more

I could go into a long drawn out story but suffice it to say that visiting this office was NOT a good experience. In retrospect, I should have realized it's all about the money. The receptionist reviewed the costs...as did the nurse who took my vitals...as did the NP who saw me because the dr. wasn't in the office as they told me he would be. I was told that they did cosmetic procedures which is the main reason why I went and according to their website they do...however, I was told they do not offer those services any longer. This would have been very nice to know before I was charged $150 for an office appt. where they did absolutely nothing but tell me that they no longer offer cosmetic procedures. ( Additional note...credit card bill states $157...not $150 as I was told numerous times) Since I was there I thought I'd have a spot removed with freezing liquid as to not make the visit a total wash and low and behold.... it was ANOTHER $140 dollars PLUS I would have to come back in three weeks to have it checked again which was another $150 office visit. Also, should I mention the blood spatters on the wall in my room as well as my husband's room who went to this office as well?? I'm not kidding. Blood on the wall in several places...not just a mark on the wall. Very dirty. There is a sign that they are remodeling but come on...blood?? I felt like I had to have a calculator with me just to keep up with the individual costs. The NP finally says to me "maybe we just aren't a good match for you." You think?! You don't offer the services you said you did BUT you still charged me $150 for an office visit! We tried to do the right thing and asked for the Dr. to contact us to discuss our concerns but no return call from him. It's just my humble opinion but GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. They cut off a skin tag on my husband Jan 2015 and sent it off for biopsy . Called my phone in July 2016 to say that the biopsy showed pre cancerous cells and he needed to come in ASAP ....18 months later?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I asked why they called my phone instead of my husbands since he was the patient.... They explained they lost his number but had mine ?!?!?!? How is that??? I didn't go to that appt with my husband and didn't fill out any paperwork and was not a patient myself. The whole situation is very weird and we will not use this doctor again . read more

I understand that payment is important for Doctors, but Dr. Landero has consistently shown that money is far more important to him than my well being. Before I had reached the deductible on my insurance, I was left with a small outstanding bill with him. I wasn't even trying to make an appointment with him, just asked him to sign off on a claim I could send in to get paid on my cancer insurance so I could pay him. He refused to do so unless I paid him first. In addition, I saw on the forms I was trying to send in that he said he examined my body and consulted me on more conditions than just the cancer on top of my head. He never looked at anything except for my scalp. I don't feel safe with him, I don't trust him, and I will be looking for a different Dermatologist. read more

I would highly recommend finding another dermatologist in Abilene. They refused to file my claim with Blue Cross Blue Shield because the back of my card said Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City instead of Texas. They claimed that filing out of state was a hassle and they refused to do it when all they had to do was file it instate. I'm not sure if it is just ignorance of insurance policies or just bad business. On top of this Dr. Landero himself was incredibly rude and dismissive of me when I attempted to solve the problem and outright refused to call the insurance company while I was in the office. Unless you want an incredibly incompetent doctor and office staff I would recommend finding another clinic. read more

Had two appts in this office. Only saw the nurse practitioner, I believe her name is Kim. She was initially very friendly but when I requested a different kind of therapy she became rude and suggested I find a different doctor. If you are like me and want to be involved in your healthcare desicions, I do not recommend this office. I took her advise and found a new physician who listened to my requests and am well on the way to recovery. Office staff is very unprofessional. While in the office I overheard staff talking negatively about other patients. This is a HIPPA violation and I would hope my case wasn't discussed infront of other patients, but I'm not confident it wasn't. While in the office, I requested to see the Dr. himself. The NP left the room and I could hear her talking to him in the hall, she came back in and told me he was gone. After telling her I heard their conversation in the hall, she said he had just left to pick his children up from school. Again, this was upsetting to me. The only positive thing I can say about my two experiences at Dr. Landeros office is getting an appointment quickly was easy. But, from what I know now, I can only believe they aren't as busy as other dermatologist offices in town due to patients not returning. read more
