About two years ago, we brought our female tortoiseshell cat to Veterinary Specialty Services after…read moretwo other veterinarians referred us there. The team at VSS carefully reviewed her imaging and records, and after a thorough assessment, recommended surgery right away. The doctor took the time to explain everything in detail -- what the procedure involved, what to expect, and the possible outcomes. We never felt rushed or pressured, only supported. Our cat was ultimately diagnosed with a rare form of throat cancer that typically occurs in dogs. Despite the seriousness of her condition, the staff gave us hope and confidence that she still had a full, happy life ahead of her. The surgeon personally called us after the procedure to update us and reassure us that she was doing well -- which meant so much, especially since it was her first night ever away from us. Thanks to the skill, compassion, and dedication of everyone at VSS, our girl made a full recovery and is now healthy, happy, and very much the Queen of the Castle. We are so grateful and would recommend Veterinary Specialty Services to anyone in need of expert, compassionate care for their pet.

I had to put my beloved rat Inigo to sleep because of the severity of his necrotizing fasciitis…read more Everything about it was awful except for the hospital. They made sure he, his sister Isolde (visiting for another less serious ailment), and I were all comfortable. Everyone was extremely sensitive about the hard decision I was making, and they gave me plenty of time to say goodbye to Inigo before taking him to the back, but I was ready to end his torment. Most of the skin on his belly was missing by this point, and the wound was deep. They allowed me back after Inigo had been given an anesthetic gas that made him fall into a peaceful sleep. I was with him when they euthanized him, and after he was dead, the vet immediately expressed her sympathy for my loss. I cried, but I was also happy that he wasn't in pain anymore, after having had to wait days until my husband's paycheck came and I could take him to the vet. The vet understood I was living in poverty and had done the best I could to keep Inigo alive. She could see that I had been trying to keep the wound clean and it had still been growing. She reassured me I'd done all I could, and since she knew I'd had to borrow money to have enough to Uber out there (I had wound up there before when my vet was unavailable and knew my rats would get good care there, even though it's easily thirty minutes from my house), she waived the exam fee for both of my rats, recommending Isolde see a specialist, and only having me pay for the cost of Inigo's euthanasia, which was $60. Every single person who worked there that I encountered knew what was going on with me and my rats, and told me they were sorry that my rat was dying/had died. I felt that Inigo was treated with the dignity he deserved as a living being, and they didn't act like he was less important because he was a rat and not a cat or dog. The euthanasia was over quickly and performed in a gentle manner, which made it much easier to bear (rats have to be euthanized by a needle in the heart, but she did this only after gassing him and by sticking the needle through his ribs on the side). Then they wrapped him in a blanket for me to take him home. I'm so, so grateful for the compassion and care that they showed to him. I absolutely recommend them and would go back in a heartbeat if one of my other rats needed something done. If the doctor who helped ease Inigo's suffering is reading this, thank you. He brought a lot of joy into our lives and he deserved the treatment he got, so I appreciate you treating him so humanely. I will always remember what you did for him.

I left and took him to Southwick Veterinary Hospital where he was fully treated and recovered completely. Was later billed $349 by AEC for services not rendered. Caroline made an appointment for us to bring her in on a Sunday afternoon, which was a relief. It felt very much like going to a funeral home to plan a human funeral. They offered a variety of vessels for her remains, as well as thoughtful paw & nose prints to remember her by- but she was not pushy trying to sell you these. The prices, in fact, were less than what we have paid for traditional cremation for our pets. Caroline was kind and compassionate through the whole process- and gave us private time to say goodbye to our beloved kitty- we weren't rushed. which meant a lot. While I hope not to need their services anytime in the near future, we will certainly choose the aquamation process again after learning more.

We were driving from Milwaukee to Texas when our dog began having really bad diarrhea. It started…read moreabout 11 pm Thursday night and continued through the next afternoon with time between bowel movements decreasing from every hour and a half to about every 15 minutes. By Friday around 3:30 pm, he was not able to go anymore but was still acting as though he needed to, trying but nothing would come out. He was also beginning to pant, drool, and cry a lot and even tremble, I'm assuming from dehydration and/or pain. This is when I decided we had to get him into a vet right away. We found the closest one and headed straight there. They seemed uninterested in helping us from the very beginning but became extremely rude once I described his symptoms. They literally kicked us off the property with full hostility, claiming our dog was probably infected with parvo and that they didn't want him on the lawn (he wasn't, his symptoms even with the severe diarrhea didn't resemble parvo. I've had two animals die from parvo and his symptoms, as bad as the diarrhea was, were nowhere even remotely close to how parvo presents or smells--plus he is fully vaccinated, so very unlikely that he would contract it which I told them.) They would not even allow us time to discuss our next plan of action while our dog was secured inside of our vehicle. The vet stared us down aggressively until we were COMPLETELY off the property. The only decent thing they did is suggest that we go to Sullivan vet, which was approximately 20 miles in the opposite direction of where we were headed and closing within the hour. We decided to try our luck there as all other vets in the direction we needed to go were much further. I'm so glad we did. When we pulled up they looked extremely busy, I was so worried they would not be able to see him but they did! They did ask us to wait in the car with him until they were ready just in case, which is totally understandable. But they ended up staying past closing just to take care of us. They did a fecal test which literally took 2 minutes. Confirmed he didn't have parvo, he basically just had a bad stomach bug. They gave him a hydration pack, meds, gentle food, and loaded us up with extra free supplies like puppy pads for the ride in case he had any accidents. They were so incredibly kind and helpful. And really went above and beyond by staying late to care for him on Halloween when I'm sure most of them had family stuff to do.

Abi (manager) chimed into Ruth & my conversation, so to include her, I began asking her questions after finding out she was the manager. She appeared annoyed by me, all along typing on her laptop not giving me any eye contact or showing any interest answering my questions about my two fur-babies attending day camp. Today was the first day both my dogs attended 1/2 day of the day camp. I was told they allow the dogs out in certain groups 15 mins at a time, to not over stimulate them. So on a 1/2 day, they get two 15 mins out to socialize/play. Because both my girls appeared not interested in the other dogs the first 15 minutes out, that on the second 15 minutes out, they just let them out with each other. I'm so confused. How are dogs going to socialize, if you don't continue introducing them to others during playtime. A full day, they are allowed a total of one hour of socialization/playtime. And they are put up in a "cabin" for the remaining of the stay. Doesn't seem much for a day camp.
