I am here for business for two nights and sheepishly admit that I'm presently surprised at how inviting and comfortable my room is. The shower stall has brand-new slate tile and the toilet, sink cabinet, mirror, and bathroom lighting all look to be recent installations. I have had low back pain for over five years but despite that I had an excellent night's sleep last night, better than I've had in quite some time. My only complaints are that the shower stall is almost on the smaller than comfortable side - I ended up turning off the water while sudsing. The hair dryer is one of those wall mount ones, and this one was mounted under the bathroom sink. Great for aesthetics, but it was hard to functionally use because the cord only stretches so far. The A/C wall unit's filter could use replacement or a thorough vacuuming, and I wonder when the last time was the wood floors were mopped (bottoms of socks and feet get quite dirty!). I can tell that a lot of thought went into refreshing this room. The walls are painted cool, soothing light blue color and the furnishings and decor coordinate nicely. I love the sliding door on the bathroom and appreciate the access to a single serve coffee maker, microwave, and refrigerator. Plus, this motel is close to food and shopping options for quick bites to eat or for necessities. Thank you for an excellent stay!

Perfect 5-Star dining experience. It is difficult to find anyone these days who takes pride in…read moretheir work and restaurants are no exception... except for the Homeport Tavern! I'll start with the food: I am a food snob. Not a foodie.. a SNOB. When I cook at home, I use the highest quality ingredients and flavor matters. You'll never see me rave about food that contains any pre-made or processed ingredients. Restaurants are a low-profit business and typically cut corners to watch profits. So, it's rare to find a restaurant that takes obvious pride in their food and DELIVERS on that pride. The Homeport Tavern is a gem! We ordered the French onion soup and calamari appetizers and the Tavern burgers. The calamari was hand breaded and fresh, not from frozen. So delicious. The soup was the best French onion soup we've ever had - did I taste a hint of Jamaican all-spice? This tavern isn't afraid to use expensive spices to achieve ultimate taste. The burgers were to die for - incredibly fresh tasting grass fed angus, cooked to a perfect medium rare (most places can't seem to cook a proper medium rare, but the Tavern nailed it). The crispy fried piece of pork belly atop the burger was amazing - cut thick and seared at a high heat for a delightful texture and flavor. The coleslaw, obviously fresh and homemade with a poppy seed in-house dressing, was a nice palette cleanser between divine burger bites. Topping this all off is the best selection of draft beers we've seen in a while! Our server was perfect in every way. She was attentive, knowledgeable, accommodating, friendly, and professional. Top notch. Now let's get to the atmosphere. The Tavern is an adorable old Maine mixed with rustic old Irish charm type of architecture. We could hear Gaelic pub music - think minstrel - before walking in. When we entered, we saw an Irish folk band of about 6 musicians playing gleefully, which, along with the old Irish pub atmosphere, truly made us feel as if we're were transported to a time and place in folklore. The entire experience made us fall in love with Homeport Tavern and we will definitely be back again and again.

We went on a Sunday at lunch and many of the outdoor picnic tables were filling up fast as the outdoor music started at 1:00. Seemed like lots of locals and regulars in attendance. One of the owners stopped by our table to ask how we were doing and noticed our pup. He returned with a bowl of water for Luna! Very nice. Entrance to parking area is from the side street, not Rte 1 and this can be tricky on your first visit. We had fish and chips- awesome! Rachel fish sandwich, great fish but overly sauced with tartar-like sauce . Burger- over cooked. Onion rings- awesome! Pricing is high but the atmosphere makes it a winner. Have been here in colder months and found the inside bar seating area to be cozy.

I've stayed at this hotel many times over the years with my kids as a little local mini vacation…read more Went to book a room for our annual mini vacation and was told I have been banned. Supposedly because, as they said, I left a lot of trash in the room. I had a small family birthday party for my son and cleaned up the room, even bringing my own trash bags to do so. I was puzzled & assumed it was a mistake so I reached out to management and received an email back saying that I had taken advantage of their no locals policy. Apparently they don't rent rooms to locals, but bent the rules for me, unbeknownst to me. No one EVER told me that this was a policy. If it was a policy, to not rent locals, then why in the world would they have rented to me? The whole situation is just bizarre. I've spent a lot of money at this hotel over the years and this is the thanks I get. So if you're local I guess you're not allowed to stay at this hotel, but they probably won't tell you that and may rent to you anyway. ?? Warning to locals- you're not allowed here, or maybe you are, or maybe sometimes? Great management. Thanks Fireside. Very nice. I cleaned that room thoroughly when I left, as I always do. If you're local they'll turn on you I guess. I'm still just stunned by this. I never had any issues in all the years I've stayed here, ever. No warnings, no complaints, no mention of not being allowed here. Nada. This is just rotten.

First time coming to this hotel, there was a crack pipe in my room. Right on top of the towels…read more... (There will be photos attached). I spoke to the head of housekeeping (Eric Carpenter) who assured me this would be dealt with.. He offered to give me an upgraded room for the rest of the year, 2025, anytime I came by with assured DEEP cleanliness to it & was also assured this would be noted in my profile whenever I personally made a reservation.. Which was a lie. The past 2/3 times I have showed up to this particular hotel since this incident, there has been some sort of alleged "issue" which resulted in the front desk employees basically DOWNGRADING my room or giving me a room that has quality issues (photos will also be attached). YESTERDAY (10/2/2025) I booked online, as I always do and when I got to this hotel the front desk manager (David Connolly) told me I had been put on the "do not rent" list due to "smoking in the room" and "paint bubbling from hot water damage in the bathroom"... I am 6 months pregnant... NEED I MENTION I do not smoke nor do I ever in life need to be in BOILING water... Basically they were finding any reason to get out of owning up to what their housekeepers either left or didn't do a good enough job of cleaning up.. I am utterly upset due to the fact that nobody has done anything to accommodate or help the fact that this is happening. I have called the head manager of it all, (Katy Kelly) and haven't received a call back which is what prompted me to make this review. The photos attached is what I've been dealing with since I've booked here.. so if you have kids, do not book here, if you care about your safety, do not book here, and if you care about cleanliness and hospitality do not book here because the employees definitely lack that.

For a hotel complimentary premade breakfast, theirs was excellent and one of the best we'd ever had. Lots of bacon. They had a very cool touchless pancake maker. Cons: The décor is very dated - we stayed on the 3rd floor that was decorated with a long row of first lady photos along both sides of the corridor hall - honestly it felt like something out of the Shining. There were odd sinks in the hallway near the elevator. The ice machine on the 1st floor was great but the ice machine on the 3rd floor didn't work and on the 2nd floor did not produce a lot of ice. The spa is tiny and no children allowed and the swimming pool is not connected to the hotel but in the parking lot. We wish they'd start the breakfast at 6am on weekends - we had an adventure planned so we had to leave at 7am when the breakfast just opened so we missed that morning. Keep perspective - this is not a posh modern hotel. Once you get used to its oddness, the hotel is a good, more affordable place for a good night's rest. We needed a hotel in Bangor ME for Labor Day Weekend - we checked the major chain hotels and the prices were all super expensive as it looks like they doubled their prices for the holiday weekend. Best Western White House Inn was the most affordable of what we could find. We noticed when we google mapped the hotel location, it was listed in Hampden ME as they are closer to Hampden but the Bangor address must be more desirable.

Being there makes you feel so far away in the best way possible. But the shining star of the town has to be the Pentagoet run by the most wonderful innkeepers, Matt & George, and a truly lovely staff! Everyone we encountered on their team was kind, friendly and offered excellent service. It's easy to just park your car on main street or on the side of the inn and then from the minute you walk into the space, you are blown away at all of the decor and details that make it feel comfortable, classy and modern and at the same time so true to the inn's Victorian history. You can tell each corner of the inn has been decorated intentionally and with much care. Our room (#3) was comfortable, clean and had so many fantastic details like a signature smell, complimentary bath/shower items, and of course - the signature balcony (AMAZING!). The communal spaces are fantastic as well. The patio is gorgeous, the porch is so peaceful, and the pub is incredibly cozy and chic. Breakfast was delicious and they also offer coffee service upstairs outside of the rooms, which is such a great touch. The food and drinks at the pub are also outstanding!! For good reason, the restaurant books up fast so definitely always make a reservation whether you are staying or only coming for dinner but you certainly won't regret experiencing the cocktails (love the blueberry one..so Maine!) and the food. The menu is seasonal I believe but everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The ode to lobster on the menu was also quintessential Maine and so good.. my husband had lobster linguini. I had short rib sliders that were also amazing. If you get the chance to try the blueberry cobbler or chocolate tres leches, do it!! Those are two desserts my husband and I will never forget. Actually.. the whole place and experience is something we will never forget. It was a highlight of our Maine vacation and we will forever be grateful to Matt and George for the space they have created and remarkable levels of hospitality that feel truly special! The owners, Matt & George, could not have been more welcoming from the moment we walked in the front door. The property itself is oozing with rich history and the interiors have been brilliantly restored (well done, George!), making this stay feel like both a step into the past and luxury pampering. Matt is quite the chef, and the inn's evening menu sings with local comfort foods, each item delicious and unique (we tried most of the menu). Downeast Maine may have stolen my heart on this trip, but it's the Pentagoet that has been top of mind since we left. I can't wait to return!
