    Breakfast- French toast

My husband and I wanted a weekend away. We chose Inn By the River and we were not disappointed. We didn't realize we chose "Last blast weekend". So everything was busy - but we never felt rushed or felt our needs were unmet. The rooms were clean, which is a MUST, for me. The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub, an enclosed porch, air conditioning, and a comfortable bed. The food at the restaurant was not only a good value but was not churned out like an assembly line chain restaurant. The menu was small intentionally. The portions were huge. The food was served hot, and flavorful. Breakfast offered REAL, maple syrup- not the maple flavored corn syrup you get everywhere else. The staff was amazing. They were friendly, accommodating and always ready to meet any needs we had. Stephanie went above and beyond when the restaurant was especially busy on Sunday morning making sure we had what we needed and chatting with us while we waited. We will definitely be back. And I would recommend the Inn By the River to anyone.

Fire pit while watching the sunset with drinks. Perfect River view.

This place has incredible food, service and scenery! They have a full bar that can be served inside or outside in front of a fire. They have picnic tables that face the Kennebac River. The service is efficient and timely. They also sister up with Three Rivers Rafting. My boyfriend and I shared a large house salad to start. It was fresh with cucumbers, tomatoes, radishes and onions. The dressing was delicious. I got the sirloin filet that came with mashed potatoes and crisp green beans. It was cooked perfectly! My boyfriend had the sirloin tips with teriyaki sauce, mashed potatoes and broccoli. He also added garlic bread...delicious. The drinks were flowing.....the fire was perfect. This is definitely a stop for lunch or dinner! Wish I had taken a photo before we ate....cleaned our plates!

Stopped here after riding all day. Excellent food and very cozy spot. Staff was very friendly. Great hospitality. Warming up by the fire before we headed back out was a super plus.

View from the Adirondak chairs and the inn's outdoor dining area

Stumbled on this place on our way back from checking out some rafting options on the Kennebec. 'Saw the inn and those Adirondak chairs up on the hill facing the river, and turned the car around to investigate. We got a nice, clean room. Got a great plate of vegetarian nachos, and then got a glass of white wine, read my book, and watched the sun setting over the river (in those chairs!). Dinner menu has lots of choices and breakfast was good. Hummingbirds abound. Food was fine. Great stay. (Some knuckleheads were noisy out by the fire pit at 5am, but... the other guests were quiet, so maybe it was just bad timing.)

You want breakfast? Or do you want KICKASS breakfast?! I bet it's the latter. As did I. We wanted some kickass breakfast before we left Maine after our rafting trip on Sunday and Inn by the River delivered us KICKASS breakfast with some Southern (or would it be considered Northern) hospitality. Inn by the River is also owned by the same owners of Three Rivers, which is just about a mile north of the "Home of Serious Fun". This place should be nicknamed the "Home of Serious Breakfast'. The Inn is pleasantly located at the top of the road tucked behind the highway, but overlooks the river beautifully. You can spot the Inn while on the Kennebec and start to crave breakfast. We were welcomed into the Inn with open arms and joyful staff members of Three Rivers/Inn by the River even before we reached the door! They were able to accommodate not only our party of 5, but were able to join our tables after seeing some familiar faces as we approached the dining room. Serving us up right with carafes of coffee, water, and orange juice. Ordering up our eggs, bacon(!!!), toasts, homefries, etc. Mmmmm.... I didn't see a Greek omlette on the menu, but they had no problems making one for me and delicious it was! I cleaned my plate right up! Nothing was left behind. Price is great too! After we devoured our meals, the staff offered to let us roam around the Inn and explore. I'm glad I took the opportunity to check out the rooms before I left. It was the cutest lil Inn you can imagine. Some rooms had double beds, while others had Queen and full size beds. Shared bathrooms and a lil kitchenette in the hallway. This would be a great place to do a group trip, with the comfort of the Inn, the amazing breakfast, the fantastic staff, who wouldn't want to come back? And with the river right there by your side?! This doesn't get any better than having a comfortable stay and a wild day on the river. P.S. You know this place is the place to be if the river guides are eating breakfast here! Just sayin'.... !

Our first night was good - however - the second night we had a rowdy group of folks next to us. (Try to get a spot in the corner - to ensure a bit more quiet.) Our guides - Tom and Bethany - were knowledgeable and great fun to be with. Despite the chilly, overcast weather - we had great fun! We LOVED the homemade chocolate chip cookies during the snack stop on our adventure. And the lunch at the end of the trip was tummy-stuffing. The Pub is perfect for late-night snacks before retiring to the campfire. We *highly recommend* River Drivers for a rafting adventure!

The campsite we had was perfect. Right next to the Dead River. The young people that I had with me were bored after the trip so they were able to use the ducky boats to go down the river to a landing at crusher hole. They had a lot of fun doing this. Bethany was our guide for the first trip. We hadn't been in the run very long when one of my sons (The one that thought this was going to be a carnival ride) slipped out and became a swimmer. With her ability we were able to retrieve him and continue on. The cookies at the snack stop were excellent. The lunch/early dinner was delicious. On my second trip my fiancee and I went on the start of our week vacation starts on the labor day weekend. We had a lot of fun with all of the people that were around prior to the big water run down the Dead River on Sunday. We had to get primed for the trip. The camp site we had was not on the river this time but an excellent place to camp. The trip on Sunday was awesome just like the June trip. We had others in our group that we got to know. This made the trip even more fun. The dinner and party that night was great. The people up there are so nice that we decided to stay until Thursday. We Kayaked with the help of the shuttle and we hiked around the hills. If I were to find a fault is that there is was no electric or water and no dumping station. There are however showers and bathrooms that are clean and well lite. I have heard rumors that water and electric may have been installed. This may sound like an advertizement but it is not. This is truly a wonderful experience for any family, couple or group. I highly recommend this wonderful piece of heaven for your family outing. P.S. The bar is the coolest bar in Maine.

Motel was booked solid so I went with a campsite this time around and I am so glad I did. Check-in was again a breeze and the staff are just so nice. Having inquired as to my activities in the area, they remembered the details and brought in up in conversation whenever we ran into each other. A nice personal touch. I stayed at campsite #9 "Double Decker" and it was the perfect size for my medium sized tent and large SUV. It came with a fire pit and picnic table. When you first round the bend, the campsites seem squeezed in there but the site itself felt pretty private once I settled in and I was not bothered by the full campground surrounding me. Quiet hours by 10pm made getting rest for my weekend activities easy peasy. As a solo camper, I felt very safe here. The nearby lounge area had a television, kitchen w. oven, range, refrigerator, and freezer, television, electrical outlets, games and more. Toilets and coin-operated showers were on the backside of this building. I don't mind pay showers but wished I got a little bit more time for my first four quarters as I was scrambling to put more in as I rushed through each visit. Bring plenty with you if you like to take your time. Firewood available for purchase (delivered to your campsite!) along with some other staples. Would absolutely stay here again. And again. Simply put, here are the pros and cons; Pro: beautiful, ski-in/ski-out lodge, direct access to the Sugarloaf village, large hot tub outside that overlooks the mountain, not too unreasonable price wise (not cheap, but you are right on the mountain with amazingly close parking) and charming vibe Cons: the check-in procedure is insane. They won't let you check in until 4pm on the dot. I totally understand if they are still cleaning the rooms, but if the rooms are clean and ready to go, just let people check in at like 2 or 3. During covid, it makes zero sense to have a line of 15-20 parties all waiting to check in at the same time. We had a small baby, and there were also several old people checking in. It just seemed asinine to create a policy that goes completely against all common sense during a global pandemic. Anyway, other cons were; the room was so tiny (which isn't horrible, but there were barely any clothing hooks, shelves or drawers to put stuff in-- and who doesn't have a lot of sh--t when they are on a ski trip!?!) and the housekeeping was pretty invisible (I'm fine with not getting room service during a pandemic, but can you at least pick up my trash and give me some towels!?!). So, obviously the pros outweigh the cons, but, the cons did take away from the comfort of our stay. However, I did have a great stay. If I return, I would just come an hour or two later to check in (if it's during covid), and I'd splurge for a larger room.
