I took my in-laws here while they were visiting us and they were blown away by the fresh produce and bread selection at Pratt's. The person working the counter even let my mother-in-law try some grape variety that she's never heard of. I love the feel of a small mom and pop shop right in the middle of east Knoxville, as there aren't many of these around anymore. My favorites to pick up here are: the Stella sourdough bread (delivered freshly twice a week) and I picked up a warm loaf while there, Cruze Farm milk, their pumpkins and mums, and the locally made skin lotions/chapsticks. Cute little country store up the road from our house. We stopped in and bought a few items. I bought the beef bologna which was delicious. We got some local honey and some absolutely delicious jalapeño pimento cheese. I will definitely be going back for more of that. read more

Warning to fellow people of color! Only shop here if you really want old timey candy or can't make it to the farmers market, or you've accepted racism as part of life and don't mind being treated coldly. I get a much better welcome at farmers market stalls or any grocery store. This place had good reviews online and looks cute from the outside. I went in and all the workers just stared at me. The produce didn't look that great, and there wasn't much to choose from. The okra looked ragged, the bananas were Dole and half were rotten. The decorative mini pumpkins and gourds were $1 but look like you'd need to wash them. I'd rather go to a normal store and get clean-looking stuff. Maybe it's better in spring or summer. I tried not to be offended by people not being hospitable despite reviews saying they treat you like family, and all I could think was maybe if your family ignores you. read more

I'm old enough to remember how neighborhood grocery stores smelled years ago. You don't find that local produce smell anywhere else in town but Pratt's! This little shop is a Fountain City institution and I am never disappointed at their prices or their selection. They have the least expensive bird seed, custom mixed for Knoxville friendly birds (like Cardinals, for example), in town and the staff is always friendly and never fails to thank you (sincerely) for stopping in. They have a wide selection of local human food products as well, like local honey and homemade pies, local breads (the variety will blow your mind in the bread department!), and even lotions and potions. WHY VISIT: I've been going to Pratt's my entire life and this little family run store has consistently offered great produce, bread, local cheeses, preserves, plants and flowers of many varieties to grow in your own garden, honey, and more! It's amazing that a little store like this can offer such variety but it does. I don't live in the Knoxville area anymore but when I go back for a visit, I make sure to stop by Pratt's to load up on the good stuff while I'm there. FAMILY RUN: The Pratt family has run this store for many years and they do their best to create a friendly environment and they are always very appreciative that you have stopped by to shop at their store. You know when you're shopping here, you are supporting local. PRODUCE SELECTION: They have some of the best selection of tomatoes and they are sold at very reasonable prices along with many other fruits and vegetables. During official tomato season, they have a great selection of the highly coveted Grainger County grown tomatoes. During the late spring / early summer they have some of the best strawberries around. The family has connections with many farmers who provide fresh and quality items for the store. The produce here is overall much better and fresher than what you would find at the chain grocery stores. OVERALL: Find healthy, fresh, and many locally sourced items at this great store that will give you a great value. PRO TIP I: The staff can help you pick out fruit based on when they think the item will be ripe enough to eat, such as cantaloupe or watermelon. PRO TIP II: This store is located at the busy intersection of Tazewell Pike and Jacksboro. It's quite tricky to turn left out of their parking lot, so I suggest take the road that's just next to the store (Felix Road), turn right at the bottom of the hill onto Forestal Drive to loop back to Tazewell Pike but in much more visible place to turn left. read more

If there's something to know about Pratt's Country Store, it's that it's an institution that's always championed shopping local. Pratt's has been around as long as I can remember. I used to go out there with my grandmother as a little kid. She shopped very pointedly, and Pratt's was always a "must." I popped in the other day, picked up a wide array of locally-sourced goods. Apple butter, habanero jelly, coffee, Doug's Other Honey. I wish I'd been headed directly home after, I would have ended up with a couple sackfuls of veggies and fruit. I highly recommend for produce and steaks and cheese! I started shopping here in an effort to shop a local during the pandemic, and they certainly have a new customer! I love this place, everybody is very friendly courteous, prices are good and all the flowers look beautiful outside. The steaks and ground pork that they have are absolutely phenomenal. I like having this type of store in North Knoxville. I will say off the bat - I REALLY wish they were open even a half hour - hour longer. It is nearly impossible for anyone working "office" hours to make it in here through the week. That said, They have a good variety of fresh produce and local dairy, cured meats, and odds & ends type dry goods. I love having an option in Ftn. The absence of stores like this are the reason America is what it is. I just moved to Knoxville from TN and love gardening. I hate growing tomatoes from seed though. I got here and couldn't find anywhere like the mom and pops that I had back home so I went to Home Depot....... Paid 5 BUCKS FOR A TOMATO PLANT EACH!!!!! I was used to paying $5 for a whole flat! Anywho I was asking around for where to get potting soil without having to make that drive again and tada! GO TO THIS PLACE! Wonderful mom and pop shop with great prices, AMAZING service, and Christian principles. Kudos to your Pratt family. Also, the big box stores know basically nothing about anything so they just chuck the plants that aren't as pretty. Anyone who knows anything knows that with proper simple water and care they'll bounce right back. Pratt's knows too. They discount it and basically give away the less desirable looking ones. I'm new to town and I was very excited to try a new local food market. I looked up a few and decided to try Pratt's. I came in, and immediately noticed NO MASKS! I was mortified. We are in the middle of a global pandemic and they are allowing customers to enter the establishment with no mask and there is barely any social distancing. I attempted to put that aside and quickly grab my husband and I's produce. I asked for help since I'm new to town, a man named Steve assisted but he was very rude. I ignored him at first, but I overheard him talking poorly about me to someone else in the store. He said something very crude about me, that I'd rather not repeat. If it weren't for Steve, maybe Pratt's would have a classier reputation in my book. read more

A heapin' helpin' of mountain hostility is more like it. The food IS largely better than the supermarket, but the the clannish suspicion ("yew think yer better'n me") and the general hatefulness of the staff make this an occasional stop only. I found this place because I was looking for local honey. I'm new to the area and since moving here I have had horrible allergy issues. Someone suggested local honey so I began a search and found this little store. Everyone was friendly and they were knowledgeable about the different types of honey. They sell several local kinds. I didn't purchase any produce but from I could see it looked good. I was so happy to find this place and I'm crossing my fingers that the honey will help with my allergies. read more
