Here are some highlights of my experience: Eli is very knowledgable and is able to explain everything easily so that people like me who feel like taxes are a foreign language can understand. I came in assuming I was going to owe so much bc I had no idea what I was doing or how taxes even worked.. but Eli answered all of my questions with patience even though I know I was probably asking the same question over & over lol. Now for 2019 I will not be stressed! Our family has multiple accounts with Schwab (for over 30 years) and we do almost everything online. After experiencing problems uploading documents on the Schwab portal, I decided to go to the branch in person to open a new, time-sensitive account. Although there was no other customer in the place, the hostile, unhelpful receptionist told me that no one there could help me and that I should go online. Great customer service! Within seconds, I located the nearest Fidelity branch on my phone - less than 1/4 mile away. Fidelity was more than happy to open the account on the spot and take my money. Hey Charles Schwab - you just lost a 30+ year customer with numerous accounts - we will be moving all of our accounts to Fidelity.

Confirmed they could handle walk-ins. Next day I visit branch and the very inhospitable receptionist was snotty, hit me with microaggressions and plainly said I could NOT talk with anybody. Then, after spending much time on locating my account (I didn't have acct no) I was informed they only dealt in person with accounts of $1 million or more (I was a Ameritrade customer but became Schwab customer upon latter buying former). I guess it never occurred to the Schwab higher ups that many investors spread their wealth and try not to park huge amounts in one location. I next went to a Fidelity branch office where they had no problem serving walk-ins, was not snobby and not discriminatory. Also no minimum account requirements. I will be transferring my holdings to Fidelity.

Her very simple estate was all "transfer on death" (so, not in probate) except for one account. These vultures used free court records to find her name and the names of all family members listed as alternate executors, and have been sending all of us scam letters since her death, claiming that my mother's estate is "currently tied up in probate court" and that we are all heirs (if we just pay Advance Probate via "flexible funding options.") Absolute crap. The estate was settled years ago. None of these family members (except me and my sibling) were heirs. I had to explain this to my elderly aunt and a cousin, who received these scam letters. Absolutely mortifying. Also, the letters say that "Advance Probate" is a "BBB A+ Rated Accredited Business." The Better Business Bureau says it is not. And you might notice, there's no address listed on the letters. Just a phone #. Stay away. Don't get scammed.
