Horrible attorney, lazy and a liar. I hired James M. Whorley for my daughter's child custody case…read more Upon our first consultation I paid his consultation fee and my daughter and I provided all the facts pertaining to the case. He stated the only way to handle the case was with a jury trial and agreed he would represent my daughter for a flat fee of $30,000 dollars with $15,000 paid down and the remainder $15,000 paid before trial. I paid the initial $15,000 dollars. He failed to answer or return calls on numerous occasions, my daughter was often told they were busy with a new client intake and couldn't come to the phone. He failed to properly represent her to the best of his ability and continuously was afraid to stand up to the court on clear violation by the court under Texas Family Law. He continuously violated client attorney privilege, failed to file motions and subpoenas, and was always late to court. He also confirmed deals without clients consent and knowledge. He Demanded additional fees (or early payment?) stating it was taking more time than he could spend without additional fees (or early payment?) and that he made $400.00 dollars per hour and would withdraw from the case if it wasn't paid. An additional payment (or early payment?) was made by my daughter for $5,000 yet he filed a motion to withdraw telling my daughter he no longer had time to spend on her case due to his eyesight, secretary in hospital with cancer, yet Whorley continued to take on additional clients. He Stated we could file a complaint with the bar association for he had 40 (30??) years experience practicing law. He failed to return any monies paid to him. A certified letter return receipt was mailed to him with statement of facts and pending intent to file suit which he refused to accept and was returned to sender. He runs a one man office without the resources to properly handle a case and will not challenge the judge even knowing the judge violated Texas and Federal Law, he represents himself rather than his client and don't expect to see him unless it is the day before court or the morning of court and expect him to be unprepared for hearings. Refused to file a Writ of Mandamus even though there were clear violations of law and stated he had to practice law here and was a friend of the judge.

A long overdue review from a custody case in 2021, that we've spent the last four years dealing…read morewith the damage that was done after we hired Chet. The battle continues. We have never dealt with lawyers or the legal system or anything that comes with a custody battle. When we were first introduced to Chet and his paralegal, they were great salespeople--personable, seemed promising...it all sounded great. Very quickly, we found that we were unable to get a hold of Chet and his team. We maybe were able to squeeze one single 30 min meeting in RIGHT before our hearing to discuss the facts (which we shared with Chet and his team over the phone and they seemed to forget everything that was discussed). Needless to say, we lost. There were very pertinent things that were not done...subpoena of background checks...evidence that should've been presented that were waived off. Please do your due diligence before hiring any lawyer.

While I expected a dedicated advocate, my experience with Susan Criss was unprofessional and…read morecounterproductive. Her approach was often adversarial toward her own client; she was frequently disorganized and used demeaning language during our consultations. Critical issues included: Lack of focus: Prioritizing personal anecdotes over case strategy. Hostility: Berating me for small errors and using inappropriate language. Bias: Dismissing professional psychological assessments without cause. Ethical concerns: Threatening to pursue harsher outcomes based on personal misconceptions. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend her services to anyone seeking reliable or ethical legal representation. The Carlson Law Firm, a much more professional and much more efficient and diligent law firm with much better attorney's, were able to get my case dismissed and dissolved all together. Something the unprofessional and inadequate, Susan Criss said wouldn't be possible on top of her empty hate filled threats to push for more than 18 months of probation. I did 3 months of no contact probation and didnt have to go to court once, I didnt have to meet with any probation officers, all I had to do was not get a ticket for 3 months. That was it. Susan Criss is a horrible lawyer and an even worse person. She's unprofessional, and above all she lacks good information, doesnt have good knowledge or navigation of the legal system, and she doesnt care to put any real work or effort into your case. Shes lazy, UNORGANIZED, and I can not stress this enough, UNPROFESSIONAL!!!

They claim I went months without communication, however it was them who refused to respond to me. They failed to respond to my calls and email from months ago. I never refused to pay. I could not because they would not even communicate with me or simply respond to my email with a payment link. By the time they got back to me, I had found someone else to help me. I told them that I would notify the state bar association and file a chargeback for the consultation. Then they agreed to send me a refund anyway because they knew they were wrong. They told me about the payment, I agreed to it, then they cut me off and never sent the payment link or return my calls when I tried to inquire about it. The state bar will be notified of how they mistreated me and then stated that I "refused" to pay. They will also be sent the emails where you demanded that I delete my review in order to recieve a refund, and also shows how they did not respond until months later.
