We had lost our friend's ability to come live at our house while we were away, and were looking to board our rescue Lab, Thomas, when I used Yelp and came across Prance Around. The idea of leaving your pet in their natural environment and routines, rather than putting them in to a very different social setting in a boarding establishment intrigued us. As you all probably do, the high Yelp star rating catches the eye, but the number of ratings to us, as well as the text, reallly tells the story. This is true of Prance Around. The mandatory pre-engagement interview is great- Joelyne came by, was very very polite and was especially gracious as we went through a couple of minor catastrophes preparing for our 5 day vacation sans our used dog. What I liked? She took down VERY careful notes on how much to feed, brand, where the items are located, what are the owner's rules on "operating" their pets, (where we walk him, how far, what toys he's allowed to tug on, etc). The occasional, unexpected text pic of your fur son or daughter having a grand time is really a great personal touch- I'd encourage you to allow them to send you that pic, as it eases your mind when you're out of town. As is often the case when you don't have firm travel plans, Prance Around has been flexible on your arrival and departure dates; I've had to shift my return date twice, and they replied with "no problem!". The house just as we left it, the mail picked up, the dog amazingly happy AND settled when we come home. (It's nice when your dog misses you while you're gone, but it's even better if he's not crazy happy, because then you wonder if he's been depressed while you're gone). We have always opted for 3 visits a day- that costs 50% more, but it's kept our son happy as all get out, as he's gotten more walks than when we were home! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by both humans and canines in our home!

Prance Around has been walking my dogs for a couple years now - they've always been great. They always send a little update email on how the walk went and a picture of your dog on the walk, which is appreciated. No issues with walkers and my pooches always come back happy, wagging their tails. I think their prices are totally reasonable and they're super reliable. Definitely recommend.

If I could, I would give Prance Around Pet Services 6 stars, but on Yelp I can only give 5. I love their dedication to animals. They worry when they don't see my cat (I have two - the youngest love to hide), and they do search for him. I love how they keep in touch by sending me pics no matter where I am in this world. And I love it that my Joey, who likes no one but my husband and I, loves the staff of Prance Around. I did look around once to check out other pet sitting services, but then I decided I already had the best one in the entire state. I love them, my cats love them, and we're all happy with them. They are my pet sitters for as long as I'm around. Any one who needs pet sitters can get a true and honest recommendation from me to go with Prance Around.

    the face of a troublemaker

I trust Prance Around more than I trust my closest friends (dog people) to look after my cat while I'm out of town. Not only did Joelyne (owner/our pet sitter) feed him and clean his litter, she made sure to wipe his tears, brush his long coat, and give him lots of attention! I'm pretty sure my cat was looking for her after I returned home from my trip... I'll never move as long as Prance Around is around to take care of my cat!

I trust my cat, Box, with Prance Around--he loves Cheryl! Thanks, Prance Around. Beverly in Boyds, MD.

I was so impressed at how professional, knowledgeable, and caring Joelyne was during the initial consultation.

The sitters vary but all are enthusiastic based on the reports they leave. After every visit the sitter leaves a note of when they came and left and what they did. They also usually text us an update and a picture of our birds. We come back to a stack of reports. The sitter stays a while after the food, water, and paper are changed to make sure the birds aren't acting weird, and I hear that some singing goes on. We've never had a problem and have be accommodated at very short notice when we want to go away for the weekend. I highly recommend this company. 1/27/20 Update: Just used them again during a ten day trip to Hawaii. I'm pretty sure our birds are in love with Alex, who came for most oF the visits. Now they are just stuck with us. As always, a great experience and we love being able to travel without any worries.

Despite me typing up a whole instruction sheet, he insisted on walking through again just to be sure (which is very reassuring). The actual pet sitting was spectacular. The pet sitter who was assigned was Kim. She spent plenty of time with the cats and made sure they were well cared for while I was away. The visit reports they leave are really cute as well. Could not have gone smoother! I'd also like to add that they were available with very short notice (3 other pet sitting companies were unable to handle our request). Also want to add that Stewart (when he came for the home visit) was wearing a mask and gloves to protect against COVID (a welcome sight). Pet owners would should have their minds at ease if they select Love Those Paws. If I go on vacation again (few and far between these days) I would definitely use them again!

He has used every department of Rocky Gorge - boarding, veterinary care, traveling papers, er, grooming... I've always felt Rocky Gorge was a nice place, and appreciated the care, diligence, and gentleness that Dr Farnam demonstrated on many vet visits across the years. *** EDIT: I have revised the rating to reflect the overall service provided by Rocky Gorge Animal Hospital across the years Mr Monster has been a client there. The only time I had a problem was with that ER doctor, and my inability to speak with anyone following the ER visit. *** Recently Monster's health has taken a turn for the worse. He is in great discomfort, and has stopped eating. I took him to the ER and saw Dr Bricker, who was amazing. Thorough, patient, informative, and as effective as possible, given the situation (Monster is an elderly cat with complex health issues, making diagnosis difficult). He provided a week of medications, with instructions to come back the following week for blood work, and call regarding changes. This included pain killers, which are key for keeping Monster feeling OK. Well, Mr Monster seemed to do well, and stated eating. Then he stopped. Suddenly hated the smell of his own food. Ran downstairs when and hid I tried to give him breakfast. Last night, I brought him in (6 days after prior visit). Hoping to see Dr Bricker again on the overnight shift. But it was a different doctor, a black doctor whose name I can't remember. She ran the blood work, then said that she could recommend two options: Taking Monster to another hospital that can provide cat blood transfusion, IV, and ultrasound to inspect his organs, which were swollen. This visit would cost $3000-5000, payed up front. The other option was giving him steroids, she said. She reasoned that he could potentially benefit from them because his white blood cell count was disturbingly high, a clear sign of a problem that might be inflammation. However, she said the steroids could cause great harm, and it would be a gamble. SHE DID NOT MENTION NOR OFFER PALLIATIVE CARE. Presented with this false dilemma, and not wanting to gamble with my beloved pet's well-being, I opted to try to find the money for the hospital admission. But I couldn't find it at 2:30 AM. So I told the Dr I'd need time to find the money. I pointed out that Mr Monster was done with his pain medication which was prescribed by Dr Bricker. Only after I directly asked her to provide him pain medication did she agree to give him a shot. This was a cat who had been on heavy pain medication a week, whose conditioned worsened! Upon getting home and discussing the situation with my husband, as well as researching potential diagnoses given his symptom, we came to believe (based on his symptoms) that our beloved Mr Monster was most likely facing a serious health problem, and the ultrasound would likely show something like lymphoma, something horrible. Which meant he has very low survival options. So he could go through all these tests only to find he needed treatment which was too painful and hard on the body for him to endure after literally STARVING for a week. We came to believe palliative care was the responsible and kind solution. But here's the problem. We don't want his last hours to be at Rocky Gorge animal hospital. I want to schedule it at home. I have asked Rocky Gorge to please call me to discuss whether palliative care is possible. It's been 6 hours. They haven't called back. He has no backup painkiller. He is due fro another dose. My heart is breaking because my baby is in pain. All I want is to make him comfortable! I AM HORRIFIED THE ER DOC FAILED TO OFFER PALLIATIVE CARE AS AN OPTION. I AM HORRIFIED SHE IGNORED HIS PAIN. I AM HORRIFIED THE ONLY CHOICE I WAS GIVEN WAS $3000-5000 DIAGNOSTICS OR A SHOT OF STEROIDS. My poor baby deserves comfort. He hasn't been eating for over a week, except tiny bites here and there. He is in great pain from his organs, which are swollen. He is anemic. His white blood cell count is high. ROCKY GORGE IS FAILING MR MONSTER IN HIS GREATEST TIME OF NEED AFTER 15 YEARS AS A LOYAL CUSTOMER. Edit continued: I took Mr Monster to the ER a third time, and spoke with Dr Weller. She was much more sympathetic and helpful. She understood the need for palliative care, and said that if Mr Monster were her cat, she would not put him through the painful and frightening hospital stay. He was elderly, and not in good health. Quality of life is important. It helped me a LOT to hear a vet say they agreed with palliative care and ultimately euthanasia. We discussed the signals to watch for to end it. Dr Weller gave us the pain meds needed to keep Monster comfortable until he was euthanized at home. I appreciated her assistance. He showed some neurological symptoms in the end, which I read suggests either stage V lymphoma, or stage IV renal lymphoma.
