Chez Marie Bakery is cute and quaint, but that's it. The service wasn't friendly or welcoming. We informed the lady behind the counter in our broken French that we do not speak French and asked if she spoke English. If not, we were prepared to use our trusty language translator app on our phones. Thankfully she spoke English well enough to explain what she had available. There was also a very large man behind the counter who did not speak to us, but gave a slight smile. We ordered our pastries (yummy), but when my mom ordered a slice of bread with maple butter, the woman cut the bread in front of us without using gloves!! She handled the bread with her bare hands and scraped the butter out of a large bowl that had been sitting on the counter for who knows how long. Ewwwww!! We sat in the large dining area of the bakery to munch on our treats, and then spent a few moments to enjoy being in an old quaint French Canadian building. We didn't bother to look at the souvenirs on our way out because they were cheap items and looked as though they had been there forever. We noticed an older woman had joined the two others behind the counter, and they all seemed to be just as curious about us as we were about them. :-) I don't plan to ever go there again, but it was an interesting place to stop for a treat. If this bakery was in the USA I'd never patronize it, but since we were on a cultural tour of Quebec my family was excited to experience as much as we could. Unfortunately, we were not aware Chez Marie is a tourist trap and not worth visiting. Do I recommend it? No. BUT, I am happy we had the experience. Additional notes: There are restrooms for men and women on the premises. There is plenty of seating and free parking. A group of women on their bicycles arrived as we left and seemed to have no problem parking their bikes. The bakery seems to be wheelchair accessible, but the dining area is not. There are a few steps to walk up to get into the dining area. We paid cash, I'm not sure if they accept credit cards.

A place to get a snack and that's it There is the 78 year old owner Marie and her daughter who work there. Marie just stands there and says hello and daughter does all of the work. Your order the food and pay at the counter. I can't believe someone thinks the service was poor! What kind of service can you expect?

It's near Jacques Cartier National Park so if you time your trip around fall foliage as I did, you can enjoy your pastries surrounded by the colors of the fall season. The pastries are everything I imagined -- super flakey and delicious. Located outside Quebec City, it was said to be the best pastry shop in the area. I don't think you can go wrong. You just point at whatever is calling you. There was line, but the line moves swift. Is it strange that I get happy and excited when I meet fellow Filipinos. I find comfort in meeting them and it always feels like meeting family away from home. There was a group of them working at this bakery in Stoneham. They were all smiles and very welcoming to me the English speaker in this French speaking province. If you're in the Quebec City and you have your own car, I recommend a visit to Pascal and working off your carb loading with a walk through Jacques Cartier National Park.

Beautiful settings, beautiful view, feast for the eye and the taste buds. We got some bread, a piece of cheese, some jam, an almond croissant and coffee and had the most enjoyable time. Now I have to confess I fell in love with french bakeries when, years ago in Paris, I came across chocolate pear tart in a small crowded boulangerie. It was, and still remains, the most satisfying, mouthwatering pastry I've had; chocolaty but perfectly balanced with pear and kinda light, with a perfectly rich crunchy crust... and I've been looking for this tart anywhere I go! no kidding! and, "Eureka! Eureka!" enough said!

It's hard to pick as each item looks better than the last. Sticking with the basics though, croissant, almond filled croissant and a hazelnut roll. Oh my gosh. The almond filling was amazing. Like a marzipan but lighter and more almond flavor. Generously filled into a sliced croissant. The hazelnut roll;similiar to a cinnamon roll but an elevated taste with real hazelnut paste. Basically everything in that bakery is top drawer as they are using pure ingredients. Definitely stop in and try anything. No disappointments only regrets that you eat more!

The place is huge when you walk in, lots of places to sit and enjoy you baked good. We got coffees to go and two cheese croissants and a toasted smoked salmon bagel. The cheese croissants were fresh, fluffy, buttery and layered. They just do pastries better in QC than home (Vancouver). The cheese was nicely distributed through the croissant too. My salmon bagel was also a star! So fresh, good toppings and great crunch. The bagel was chewy and delicious too. Service was fast and we enjoyed everything we had!
