Ok bed and nice water pressure but that's it. Woke up to screaming kids (not mine) and egg shells in my breakfast. No thanks

Happened upon this B&B while doing a quick drive-around town, ready to see all of the Ingalls…read moresites. $90 for one of the smaller rooms (double bed and a pull-out twin) includes breakfast. Hang on...this is a mere $10 more than a rather miserable looking hotel in town. I'll take it! This place is a knockout. Typical small town corner building completely remodeled - and remodeled well - to be a B&B. High ceilings...old time feel...nice furnishings. I loved the spacious salon / dining room. Would be nice when the fire is lit. Only thing missing, and this might be a seasonal / regional thing, is a decanter of sherry for the guests. That's always a warm touch. Our room was very comfortable. The bed was good and the bathroom - shower only - had all we needed tucked away in a cabinet. Cute faux fireplace. Kim is an attentive but not intrusive host. The breakfast for our visit was French Toast with sausage and fresh fruit. It was fine, but here is where an otherwise excellent place falls a tad short. B&Bs are more of a pampering event. Cream for the coffee should not be skim or 1% milk. Syrup should be genuine maple syrup. French Toast should be made with a dense quality bread...maybe with a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg...not just plain fried because that's pretty flavorless if you're avoiding the "syrup." HOWEVER...the fruit mix was exceptional. Best I've ever had. Every single bite was heaven. Would I return? Absolutely. It was a lovely stay. Wish we'd had more time to hang out downstairs. It's just nice to sit in a lovely room. DeSmet is a very small town with seemingly only the Ingalls attraction to draw people from afar but still...there's something charming about it. The people are exceptionally friendly.

What a gem! Historic building lovingly converted to a first class b&b. Our suite was a small…read moresitting room with comfy chairs and tv, a bedroom with queen bed, and a small but very nice bathroom. Breakfast was great and this is the perfect place to stay while visiting Little House sites.

No Children Allowed. My husband and I will be coming to visit his grandmother at the end of the…read moreyear and will be bringing our granddaughter with us. I have to say I was a bit shocked to hear we could not book a room with a child.

I visited Dell Rapids on a fact-finding research mission...my mother had lived there as a small…read morechild, and I had never been there. I was glad to discover the Rose Stone Inn, a charming B&B in the heart of historic Dell Rapids. Built in 1909 to accommodate traveling salesmen, it might well have been a stopover for my grandfather, who moved his family there from Knoxville, IA. (The town does boast at least two funeral homes, right there on the main street, and he was a wholesale casket salesman, so...). It's not cheap, but it had the great advantage of being right in the middle of where I wanted to be, and as I was soon to discover, the delicious breakfasts I was given each morning were substantial enough to eliminate the need for seeking out lunch! I stayed in the Violet Room (aka "Violet's room"), which was perfectly sized for a single traveler and had a small, but well-appointed en suite bathroom. The decor was period correct and aided my mental time travel. Sharon, the host, was always friendly and welcoming, without being the least bit obtrusive (for those travelers who might avoid a B&B out of fear of too much familial feeling!). I also met the House Dog, Maggie, who invited me to give her a belly rub upon our first acquaintance, and I happily obliged.
