I drive over an hour each way to see her and it's been so worth it. I originally went to see Marisa for extreme anxiety and ongoing sleep issues, after trying what felt like every modality out there: somatic exercises, journaling, therapy, BIT, meditation, breath-work...you name it. While many of those helped in their own ways, nothing truly moved the needle for me the way hypnoacupuncture with Marisa has. From my very first session, there was an obvious shift. Even the people around me noticed. After that first session, the tension in my shoulders decreased, and the only way I can describe it is that everything (physically & mentally) felt like it had been taken down a notch. Since working with her, my sleep has completely transformed. I went from having an extremely hard time falling asleep and waking up almost every hour, to now pretty much sleeping through the night. If I do wake up, I can fall back asleep easily, and I'm even dreaming a lot which I take as a sign I'm finally getting deep, restful sleep. I've seen such drastic improvements that I genuinely feel like I have a new baseline. I feel so much more in control of my anxiety now and honestly like a completely different person than I was just a few months ago. It's been truly life changing. I also felt nervousness in social situations. Overtime, I lost my confidence in myself. Having panic attacks while public speaking was embarrassing and interfered with my job to the point where I had to leave it. I tried CBT treatment for this but it was not successful. However, I've been unsuccessful in trying to make some changes in myself, and my disappointment in myself was negatively impacting my self-esteem and coloring almost every aspect of my life. I was literally out of other ideas so I investigated hypnotherapy, and I found some info about Mary Heath and Focus Hypnosis on her website...frankly, I didn't think I COULD be hypnotized but out of desperation (and curiosity!) & figuring I had nothing to lose, I made an appointment. I found Mary to be a complete and knowledgeable professional, and she took her time to answer all my questions and concerns involving her practice & hypnosis in general. She's very warm and empathetic (and to my relief, she's not covered in crystals, wearing mystical symbols or reeking of patchouli or sage!), and holds professional credentials and adheres to established ethical standards for hypnotherapy. She asked questions and took some personal history in order to gain insight into my concerns; after I explained to her what it was that I wanted to get out of my sessions, she was able to tailor her approach to my personal circumstances. She made no promises and offered no "magic, but explained that she has had much success in helping people replace old negative patterns (quitting smoking, reducing stress, irrational fears, getting past a lost relationship or loved one, etc.) by retraining you to change the way you think about such things, while in a state of deep relaxation. I noticed positive changes even after the first session, and more changes after additional sessions. Mary also provides exercises for self-hypnosis training, and includes reinforcement CDs for your own use at home to support lasting change. I feel like I'm on my way to making improvements in my life, thanks to Mary's help. Anyone considering hypnotherapy for the first time (even a skeptic like me!) should consider meeting with Mary for a consultation. I'm really glad I did.
