We checked out the menu, and I have to be honest (being a student) the prices scared me a bit! They quickly redeemed themselves though, cause the portions you get here are amazingly royal. My friend had the Italian lemon cake and I had the carrot cake. Both of us struggled to finish these, but we did because it was too tasty to waste! Other than the cake, we both had a hot chocolate with whipped cream. They came in huge glasses, filled with actual warm milk and having to stir the chocolate yourself. What made it more delicious was that the chocolate was actual Tony's Chocolonely :). They also have a lovely garden where you can sit, but sadly Dutch summer kind of ruined the opportunity for us to do that today. Perhaps in the next review, if the weather allows! All in all, great place to sit, have a chat with your friend and relax.

It was ok, the breakfast sandwich was the true standout here. Beautiful presentation, perfectly cooked egg with a nice runny yolk, a generous pile of bacon, tomato and lettuce, on a toasted bagel. In general, I dislike eating lobster in a restaurant as it is typically a snobby affair and I have yet to master eating and enjoying a lobster without having it all over me. But Den Beer is super informal, it is like you go to your grammy's house to eat. The owner is 78 years old, she is a real gem: fierce but welcoming. The food itself is why I keep on coming here and keep on wanting to come back: the lobster is just DELICIOUS. I've tried several styles over the years and all are finger licking good. The lobsters are always super juicy and cooked to perfection, it would be hard to pick my favorite style as all of them are the bomb but maybe the grilled flambe with whiskey has a slight edge in my book. I truly wish Gusje, the owner, a long life and good health as I will continue to come again and again!
