We called to have our furnace looked at as we had no heat. When the technician came he said the…read morethere was a major part that needed to be replaced but it was under warrantee. It took several days to get the part in and once it was installed I was handed a bill for $2000. I was told that $500 of that bill was to return the old part to the manufacturer. Upon investigating I found out that the manufacturer covers the cost of returning defective parts under warrantee and this repair should have been around $500 to $600. I requested an itemized bill from them and was told that they don't do that and was ignored when I made further inquiries. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

We woke up to no heat, made the call to Handy Brothers and within the next half hour at the least Sheldon arrived to face repairs to a twenty odd year old furnace. Within the next hour, he diagnosed and explained the problem, got the heat running, knowledgeably and efficiently answered all our questions, helped us ( through a low-pressure conversation) choose the best replacement furnace for our home and while waiting to be sure the furnace was going to run efficiently, he put a new switch on the fireplace. Great technician and fantastic service from the phone call to this posting. (They have already called to make arrangements to come measure for the new low energy, high efficiency furnace unit). In all the years we have called on Handy Brothers for their knowledge, expertise, maintenance and purchasing we have never been disappointed. William suggested checking the sewer via camera and not snake the sewer without need. He found the sewer line to be in good condition. He also checked the drain from the washing machine to the drain in the other basement. William checked an upstairs sink that seemed to be clogged and explained the problem of the sink drainage without access to air flowing into the sink drain. William took his time with all my questions and checked every item. He brought his assistant, Paul, along for good measure. I thought he provided excellent service and professional concern.

Could not find a leak coming from upstairs bathroom. Tore out ceiling above dining room to find…read morepossible leak, couldn't find it. Left hole, (which was an awful mess with exposed materials uncovered, etc). Left hole to "dry out" for a 90 year old woman to deal with on her own. Called plumber back out, had to ask to check toilet (even though I was told they checked it through flushing numerous times and nothing....) lifted toilet up heard the young man say "0h my God" because the sub flooring was complete rot. Under the shower, under the toilet etc. Not my expertise but seemed like the most basic thing to check. Then when the plumber left, he forgot to turn the water back on leaving no hot water at all. It was a weekend and they were kind enough to come back out, in doing so, they came back to turn the water back on, but then left again on a Saturday and cold water worked but hot water had no pressure leaving my mother with no way to shower. It was just a mess. It seemed like basic plumbing, but no one could figure it out except for myself. I think older people are taken advantage of and the insurance adjuster from State Farm, John Leuffgen has been zero help in any of this unfortunate situation. If you get him as an adjuster, request someone more competent. The giant messed up, torn out ceiling above my mother's dining room table is still there because no one can find or give a name of a contractor willing to fix this mess from the plumber.

He ended up correcting the issue with his deep knowledge and understanding for the way my house was likely piped. He seemed to have great tools that helped him do an exceptional job. His pricing was very reasonable. Would highly recommend Paul's service to anyone in need of plumbing repairs or replacement. I also asked him about a recurring plumbing issue we have in our 50 year old house, and he proposed a very creative solution that I hadn't thought of. But he didn't push the project to be done by him, and let me know he'd be open to do it when we are ready. Will definitely call him back when we do out next plumbing project.
