Within the next hour, he diagnosed and explained the problem, got the heat running, knowledgeably and efficiently answered all our questions, helped us ( through a low-pressure conversation) choose the best replacement furnace for our home and while waiting to be sure the furnace was going to run efficiently, he put a new switch on the fireplace. Great technician and fantastic service from the phone call to this posting. (They have already called to make arrangements to come measure for the new low energy, high efficiency furnace unit). In all the years we have called on Handy Brothers for their knowledge, expertise, maintenance and purchasing we have never been disappointed. We called to have our furnace looked at as we had no heat. When the technician came he said the…read morethere was a major part that needed to be replaced but it was under warrantee. It took several days to get the part in and once it was installed I was handed a bill for $2000. I was told that $500 of that bill was to return the old part to the manufacturer. Upon investigating I found out that the manufacturer covers the cost of returning defective parts under warrantee and this repair should have been around $500 to $600. I requested an itemized bill from them and was told that they don't do that and was ignored when I made further inquiries. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

I was concerned that the pipes would freeze, although I had a gas fireplace to help with the inside temperature. Adam came out and diagnosed the faulty heat exchanger and explained, in depth, why the 9 year old furnace was not operating and could be dangerous. He walked me through what needed to be done and properly sized and installed a new furnace. He also connected some of the ductwork that was obstructed and/or not connected correctly. I used to participate in row boat races in their huge pond in their yard in scouts. Can't get much more local than that. But not even a call back saying, "We're too busy", "not taking on new clients right now". Etc. Nothing! I realize the business was "gifted" from previous family members, so the client base is probably large & extremely well established, with the same customers for many decades. So they don't need my business. But IMO, a true mark of a good business is how they treat their customers when they DON'T have to scratch and claw for new business. How is your customer service when your company is at its peak? Oh well. like I said, I try and stay local, but sometimes you just have to look outside the area to get the customer service & professiomalism you need. It takes a lot for me to give a bad review. But I waited a long time! I took my rather large project to a plumbing company in Macomb County, someone actually answered the phone, I had an estimate that week and the work was started immediately after I signed the agreement.
