This gym is worth-while reviewing because they've invested greatly in their establishment, it's a professional gym and it takes itself seriously like that - which I enjoy. The facilities are always clean throughout the day, the staff always have something to do, the food is delicious, and there are still various ways in which the business could improve.
For starters, the kitchen area is hardly ever used because people don't feel called to sit around it and chat. I think it may be because they charge you $2 for a cup of instant coffee with no refill option. They are making an obscene amount of money per coffee and if they would invest that into actually having fresh coffee available, people might congregate and buy other products as well.
There is no family plan, or senior discount, or student plan. It's all one plan fits all model, and it's a plan that's two to three times more expensive than other gyms in the area. I don't mind the high price tag when high service is available, but to marginalize against seniors, families or students just makes your product seem unnecessarily elitist. Eltism isn't compatible with Watsonville, if you were in San Francisco I would get it but here you are in a migrant farm worker community and I think you go against the ethics of the area to be a gym that exclusively caters to the rich.
The staff are not friendly. I have tried to muster up a conversation and there is only one woman, who works in the early mornings, that I really feel is genuinely friendly and personable. I have severe social anxiety disorders and a friendly smile from a company helps me entitled to purchasing their products. I want to buy and consume but I don't want to feel like I am a problem for someone and this is generally how I feel after an interaction with 90% of the staff. I think they are well-meaning, but don't have much training in customer relationships. Still, I have experienced better customer service here than in the other gyms in Watsonville. I know the people here are hard working and can take feedback, which is why I wanted to leave them this review. I really want their business to succeed.
Why?
Because you can tell they really care about keeping the gym clean and accessible throughout the day. I never see someone just stand around and do nothing. As they are actively engaged in the process of bettering their business, as a customer I feel responsible for sharing my feedback honestly.
They also have a day care center, and I really should of said this earlier because it's a huge plus for all of the parents in the area that want to get their gym time out there. The equipment is state of the art, and you won't be disappointed in that field. All the facilities are amazing, I just think they can be more engaged and connected to their customers, and see themselves as members of the community and avoid seeming like their main objective is profit. read more
