So in one afternoon, most of the resorts she had suggested were no longer the same price. Now she was suggesting other resorts with even higher prices. And when I confronted her about my suspicions about the sudden increase in price of all the resorts, she hung up on me. I felt I was being taken advantage of.

This year they have helped us find the perfect all inclusive resort in Punta Cana, took care of all of the details for a Nile River Cruise, arranged for us to surprise friends on their 25th wedding anniversary cruise on Cunard from Venice to Rome and planned our extended stay after a conference in Valparaiso Chile. In 2011, we had booked a private house in Manzanillo, Mexico. Hurricane Jova, a category 3 hurricane took out the airports in Manzanillo and Puerto Vallarta. We called A1 and they told us to enjoy the rest of our vacation while they worked out an alternative - they found us a flight home from Guadalajara in the midst of that cities hosting of the Pan Am games. We spoke over the phone and gave specific directions on where we would like to stay and what types of hotels. The trip included stops in Santorini and Istanbul. In both places the hotel arrangements were not what we had asked for and were not near where we wanted to be. The quality was below hostels I had been to before. I then had to handle my own accommodations in foreign countries wasting valuable time and expensive cell phone minutes with very little help from A-One. They also used Booking.com with rates that were non-refundable. It was up to me to negotiate with the hotel operator in Santorini and Istanbul. The locations in both cities were not where we were supposed to be. To upgrade cost us huge money in Santorini as we were already there and they knew we needed a place. A-One claimed the type of place I stayed at was not in my budget, yet we made upgrades to other parts of the trip later on. A-One assumed no responsibility in the matter and did not compensate us for lost time and the upgrade I had to make. I have never been to either of these cities so I relied on experienced travel agents to get what I wanted. That didn't happen. Instead they did not want to listen to a an unhappy customer that thought they may take initiative 2 months after the honeymoon to compensate for the terrible experience I had. They made no contact with me after the trip and then hung up on me because I was a mad customer. What is the point of going with a travel agent if they are not going to back their work and will blame you, the customer? More so, why is a travel agent using booking.com. I can do that. The tour they set up for us in Istanbul also was 2 hours late picking us up and we missed parts of it. A-One blamed the agent they booked through for this mishap and claimed no responsibility. In the end I had to pay for multiple nights in Santorini for a hotel we did not use, then had to find my own accommodations in town, not 25 mins away from the city I told them I wanted to be in. I also lost hours on a honeymoon that was supposed to be a trip of a lifetime. I was told by A-One after that 4 and 5 star ratings are different by country, and that it was my responsibility to know what I was booking. What's the point of a travel agent then???

When the travel agent told me this, she found it SO funny and couldn't stop laughing...really?! You screwed up my plans. The following year I was going to Egypt and Paris and called them again just thinking last time was just a freak accident. HUGE MISTAKE! She ended up charging my friend 400 dollars less and never told me until I saw her ticket; she had the nerve to tell my friend not to tell me...really??!! When I called to ask to speak to the manager, they told me she was admitted to the hospital...really, I just spoke to her that morning!!! Lastly, my friend called to get prices for Cuba for herself and told me about it. They tried to sell her a 3 star hotel where many get food poisoning....when she told me this I told her never to call them again.... I got screwed over twice...NEVER again!!!!

Friendly and helpful information…read more We entered Canada but we didn't know what we wanted to do with our couple of hours in Windsor. The information center was close by so we decided to ask them some questions. There are plenty of maps and pamphlets for the different cities of Canada. The woman working at the desk gave us a map of Windsor and a list of things to do in the city. She even gave us a parking permit for the travel center so we were able to park there for free. Overall, clean bathrooms, free maps, and free parking for a couple hours is a win.

Our two hour tour went by too quickly and we wished we'd taken the four hour option instead! Joe was not only a terrific tour guide, he worked with with our schedules. My husband, sister-in-law, niece, and I (age range 7-31) took a tour with Joe of Backseat Detroit…read morein January of 2014 and the experience was unforgettable for all of us! Joe served as a treasure trove of knowledge regarding the city as he provided interesting facts, historical data (and even hilarious jokes) while we traversed neighborhoods such as the affluent Boston Edison District, historic Corktown, the colorful Heidelberg Project, and many, many more. The best part was that though Joe had a planned route, he offered to customize our tour on the spot to meet our varied personal interests--a service that Joe said he provides to all his guests. For instance, Joe said that if we were interested in a particular theme, such as the Motor City's vibrant music history, he would include Hitsville USA and other prominent music sights within the city. My seven-year-old niece said she was interested in toys, which made us laugh due to its randomness, but alas, Joe guided us through the aforementioned Heidelberg Project (a neighborhood in which the houses are adorned with colorful polka dots and teddy bears) and even led us into the Fisher where we gazed upon a stunning detailed Lego replica of the skyscraper in which we were standing (see pics). Whatever your specific interests are, Joe will ensure that you leave satisfied! We also appreciated that Joe provided a well-rounded and as-unbiased-as-possible perspective of the long-troubled, yet vibrant city. For instance, when we asked Joe a specific question regarding the politically-polarizing Detroit mogul Matty Maroun, he was sure to note when his facts ventured into opinion territory. This perspective proved invaluable to the sights as well: Most visitors will have heard of and/or seen photos of Detroit's tremendous blight, but Joe also showed us breathtaking extant structures from Detroit's grandiose past and he was sure to also point out new developments in the city; we visited the decrepit remains of Michigan Central Station, but Joe also took us into the spectacular Guardian Building (Wait until Joe tells you the story about the building's roof--you'll be astonished), and Joe even showed us the wonderful new Beethoven Cafe on Third Avenue where we purchased delicious coffee and pastries. Of course, any smartphone could provide both navigation and a web browser set to Wikipedia that could guide visitors on a tour of Detroit, right? WRONG! For starters, Joe is a long-time resident of Detroit, so he provided a unique and authentic perspective of life in the city. Moreover, Joe maintains an active role in Detroit city politics and stays current on city planning; therefore, Joe provided us with fascinating information regarding the city's past, present and future that we likely could not have obtained through the internet. And if you require further proof that Joe's tour provided invaluable information, consider this: out of our group of four, all of us were born and raised in the Metro-Detroit-area and all four of us have lived in the city at one point in our lives; yet Joe still showed us new sights and provided us with a wealth of new knowledge regarding our former home. Never rode a train before, pretty good experience…read more Things I like: I can relax, Parking in Toronto would be more than the train. Easy to find small clean station. Spacious seats not crammed in like airplane seats. Pretty good reclining seats. Food carts come by often. Two bathrooms each for each car. A few nice views from window. Staff is friendly. Things I dont like: There are 5 stops, which slows the trip down. The seats hurt your butt after a few hours, no phone charges on the train, no in car entertainment screens. The internet is slower than 1 MBps, that is like dial up speed. No complimentary snacks or beverages, everything is cash. Windsor station would not only let me pay for 5 days for parking, they made me pay $70 for the whole week.
