From the start, it was clear that Jon is more than just a landscaper. He took an active role in all aspects of this project beginning with the sewer line. He was present when All Drain came to scope the sewer line so he could understand what part of the line was compromised. He actually identified that the problem was bigger than the sewer line, and involved a significantly leaking water line. He then helped coordinate the excavation and replacement of the sewer and water lines with a sub-contractor that he respected- Joe Vara. We felt so taken care of - Jon and Joe were making sure everything was done correctly. They were both accessible, great communicators, smart, with a really great work ethic. Overall, Jon has been incredible to work with. While this review is not about the landscaping (I'll update after the work is done) I've been so impressed with Jon that I felt I should share my experience. We had used Marlon for some tree work and general landscaping approx. 2 years ago, 2019, and wanted at that time to remove a tree which was severely damaging our sidewalk to a point the sidewalk was dangerous. Unfortunately Cambridge had a tree removal moratorium in place so we had to delay this work. We finally decided to go forward with the tree removal, pay Cambridge the fine for removal and we called Marlon. Marlon seemed happy to hear from us again and have a repeat customer. Marlon sent his tree person out to provide an estimate for the tree removal, trimming another tree and removing a dead tree stump and sidewalk repair. Seems like a decent size smallish job. Marlon's tree man said he would have a proposal to us "shortly" within the following week. We never received a quote-proposal. We have left several voice msgs and have also sent two or three e-mails to Marlon and we have never heard back. Marlon has ghosted us. There is another review where Marlon scheduled an appt. and never showed up. If you want to be ghosted or waste your time waiting for Marlon well, then he's your man-company. Find someone else who does care and does good work. Too bad to lose a repeat customer.

When you raise a concern they show up once and then disappear. They ripped up my whole yard and had an outside vendor hydroseed it. The job is not great but they have not checked on it once. They said they would fertilize - came once after I reminded them. No communication since. They showed up with a tractor to mow my lawn in a rainstorm and caused more damage! They said they would come to finish mulching in June - it's now almost august. They said they would trim the bushes on both sides of my house at the same time - again it's almost august. We have seen their previous project at the Old Oak Dojo and really liked the idea of a functional landscape that meet aesthetic purpose, yield edibles as well as fitting in the native eco system. Noah is very knowledgeable of different plants and flowers so conversation with him has always been very educational for us amateur gardeners. He has also been very accommodating from the consultation. He listened to our needs and concerns before coming up with a customized plan that fits our property and budget. The project includes a low dry-stack retaining wall, plants that would help stabilizing the soils since we live on a hill, perennial flowers/plants that support each other and blooms at different time, and irrigation etc. The installation was under a short deadline so that we can have our wish of throwing a post-wedding party in our yard. Noah, Cheryl, and Karen moved very efficiently and accomplished the project before the deadline and within budget. The project also includes post-installation maintenance as the first year is crucial for the garden to survive. We are very happy to find Restoring Roots and will definitely consider using them for future projects.

We bought a condo in the Woodburne neigborhood of Jamaica Plain a year ago. There wasn't a lot of space to work with but I was sure that a little patio would fit between the house and the garage. I started contacting landscape design and build firms in March 2015. Most larger firms were already booked for spring, and when a couple of firms came out in June, they indicated that our job was too small for them to consider. Our realtor recommended Restoring Roots. From the first visit Karen was enthusiastic about the possibilities for our little space. She listened to our concerns and needs--one of the biggest concerns being that as new home owners facing a lot of projects, we wanted to consider a design plan that we could implement in stages. Karen came back to us with a detailed and comprehensive plan for our little space. After multiple negotiations with our condo association, we decided to move ahead with the patio construction in the fall and put the planting and construction of a sitting wall on hold until Spring. The bluestone patio was completed right before Thanksgiving. We are very impressed with the quality of the work and we think the patio looks great! We hope to have Restoring Roots back in the Spring for the next phase of the project.

It was a difficult job, requiring extensive soil tilling and old root grinding beforehand. The preparation was thorough, and the planting process was well executed. Quite impressive. The team was courteous and helpful. Hydrangeas were planted as well, and they have flourished. My only complaint is the quality of the soil used for amendment. It is hard to work with now in adding shrubs and flowers. All in all, the trees look majestic.
