Poundland. The land of things that cost a pound. There are so many of these shops now, it's unbelievable. This one has the unique selling point of being on Union Street and being pretty big, though not as big as the one on Sauchiehall Street which boasts being the biggest in Europe, for better or worse. There's some obscurities in here in the form of children's toys from trends 5 years ago, spraypaint and cheap stationary right through to general madness that is surely never bought by anyone? Who knows. It's decent for bits and bobs, but be warned, it's not so easy to find what you're looking for and it's often mobbed. Everything costs a pound in here. Just to clarify that. read more

It seems that these days no city centre is complete without a small collection of pound shops, as the economy crunch continues these are becoming more popular and socially acceptable appealing to anybody who is keen to grab a canny bargain. I'm telling you, you have no idea quite how much you are being ripped off by supermarkets until you have a browse in one of these shops. In this branch I found large selection of multi-pack cans of juice, crisps, sweets, blank CDs and toiletries which I deemed to be categorical as excellent bargains which I hastily bought thinking haha in your face co-op as left the shop. read more

This is I'm second time to a pound-land in my life. The first time was with a friend who was playing a heavy for a mobster in a Glaswegian drama I saw in his basket that he was buying bacon, with the look of disgust from me "why are you buying that sh*te for" and you aren't really going to eat that are you. But my friend Hugh told me you could also buy popcorn and warm juice that was 10 cheaper than the local cinema. Pound-land is one of the few places that you can buy 80 forks at short notice for about £30. A lot if good gardening items sold here with seeds to grow your own plants and tomatoes ect. read more

As far as pound shops go, Poundland is quite a shop. Personally, I use this aforementioned shop to buy 3 things: - Christmas wrapping paper - Christmas Decorations - Cheapy glow sticks They do the trick, they last at least 3 weeks (except the glowsticks - they'll probably last you around 3 hours...waaay!) and as each item only cost £1 you don't feel bad when someone drunkenly falls into your xmas tree after one too many Christmas bevvys and smashes the lights, or throws up on the bathroom rug ("it's ok, we got it at poundland.") This store has everything you could possibly want - from High School Musical themed Kitchen Roll to feather boas and back scratchers - it's a slight headache trying to muscle your way through the crowds (busy much?) and neon lighting, however, it's worth every penny in the end. I absolutely love Poundland and can often squander £20 here when popping in for a browse. They sell everything from cleaning products and toiletries to huge bars of chocolate and multipacks of crisps all for a quid of course. I was recently amazed to discover that this branch even stocks tins of paint, wallpaper and floor tiles! You'd be surprised how much you could get to kit out your house in here, with aisles filled with plates and pots and ingenious items you never even knew you needed. I get such satisfaction from bargain shopping and pound purchases in today's credit crunch climate and Poundland happily feeds my habit. read more

As we all know, there is a completely unnecessary amount of shops of this ilk in Glasgow. One or two, maybe even three, would be fair enough. After all, there's no doubting they can come in handy for the odd wee nick nack. However, given they all stock the same things and everything costs the same price, it's hard to get too excited about the opening of another of these stores. The only thing that saves this one from a dreaded one star review is the fact it is slightly more spacious than some others. Otherwise, more of the same. read more

This is one of the best £1 shops I've been in! Toys, toiletries, household goods, garden goods, big bags of crisps, all a £1! Loads of stuff that in other shops can cost twice as much and off course all those things you just can't live without! You'll spend more than you intended on doing do when you shop in here but so what?! It's a £1 and you get lots of great stuff! read more

In these credit crunch times, we all need to tighten our belts. That's why Poundland is doing so well. This is their biggest store in the city centre and it's conveniently located beside the stop where I catch my bus home after work, so I'm a regular. Everything costs £1 - don't ask for prices as they've heard it all before. On the odd occasion you could find the items for sale for less than £1 elsewhere, but more often than not, you're in for a bargain. Poundland sells everything from toiletries to stationery to homeware to food. If you are an eBayer, it's a great place to pick up your packaging as padded envelopes are a lot cheaper here than anywhere else. I buy Brunch Bars in Poundland as they cost a lot less than in the supermarket. Dove Soap is also a good buy and sometimes they will get in some end of range items which need to be snapped up as soon as you see them. They also sell DVDs, most aren't blockbusters but you still pick up the odd bargain. Books are also worth a browse - there's a lot of obscure stuff but you can find best sellers tucked in there as well. I love Poundland and want to spread the word! read more

To be frank, this branch of 'Poundies' is always hoaching with reprobates and wierdos. The last time I was in, some dude tried to come in with his Alsation. Don't get me wrong though, the security in here are tough as old boots, so no one gets away with any funny business. You can always count on Poundland to have everything you need for everything. Torch? Party bags? Shampoo? Gloves? Jamie Theakston's autobiography? You can find it all and more in here. One of my favourite past-times is actually having a look through the book, DVD and CD selection, where you can find all the has beens of the day for a mere pound. In all seriousness though, stuff like shower gel and shampoo go for a couple of quid cheaper than in Asda or Boots, so have a look in here before you spend too much, especially when going on holiday. Folk might knock it, but everyone shops there!! read more
