Last night, we went hunting for a restaurant in the QC area that serves a decent salad, as well as great chicken and fish entrees. Unfortunately, the Zomato app was flooded with unreliable and sketchy resto reviews from the likes of payola blogger Eater.ph so I turn to my Booky app for recommendations (and discounts as well). In a matter of minutes, our reservation at Poultry Stack was confirmed, and we automatically received a P300 discount.
Our meal started with Poultry Stack's bestselling Bucheron, which I prefer to describe as crispy, paper-thin chicken skin. It is a light and non-greasy version of the deep-fried chicken skin appetizer that I'm accustomed to. My friends liked it, but I would probably order something else next time.
We had the Kani Kalamansi Truffle Salad next, and this was a bit of a letdown. I loved the aroma of sharp cheese as it was placed on our table, but couldn't help but notice the kani strips were a sad yellow color. The salad tasted bitter, likely from the greens or the kalamansi (a local version of lime). A little more citrus and salt should create a more balanced flavor.
The Garlic Overload Chicken is popular among the more reputable foodies and food bloggers, and I can see why. We were served a generous portion of non-greasy fried chicken topped with an insane amount of roasted garlic cloves. It reminded me of the plating at another awesome Lilac Street restaurant (Mandi's Grill Grub). The fried chicken was well-seasoned (albeit seconds away from turning dry), and the caramelized garlic cloves made for a more enjoyable dining experience.
I loved the Crispy Pork Belly with Cilantro Rice too. The pork rind was perfectly crunchy, and the cilantro rice was the perfect foil to the pork belly despite my usual aversion to cilantro. I would have preferred the Thai papaya salad as the side dish on this meal though.
The Thai BBQ Chicken tasted a lot like Inasal, so I withhold comment on this dish because we might have been served the wrong chicken entree.
The Peri-Peri Chicken, the Salted Egg Bucheron, and the PS fries were not available last night. I would have to come back to check these dishes out.
