I consider Buffalo wings to be one of my favorite foods, so when someone declares this place to be one of the best wings in town, I had to find out for myself. Frankie's set-up is like the typical wings diner: homey and pleasantly cluttered. I had the garlic parmesan as recommended by the waiter, and the Frankie's Classic Buffalo. As it was the one flavor that took the restaurant's name as its title, the Frankie's classic was definitely the better order of the two. Everything I've been hearing about the place was right; this might be the best Buffalo wings place in the city! The Frankie's classic is a masterpiece, I don't know how many kinds of Buffalo wings I've tried in my life, but this time I think I've found the perfect original no frills wings.

Going further, some places would inevitably prepare the dish better than most. To me, this is Frankie's New York Buffalo Wings. I usually head to Frankie's after a night run. This could get as late as midnight. The place is open until 2 am, and by this time the horrible parking situation at the City Golf Compound would already be more manageable. (Of course, provided it's a not a weekend.) I always get the Classic Buffalo (spicy) with blue cheese dip, and ask for more blue cheese dips. (They charge extra). I like the chicken because of the way the skin has been cooked to a crisp, all the while keeping the meat rather tender; I think it's breaded. The sauce is spicy yet with just the right bite, meaning there is a dimension to the flavor and not just plain crazy-fiery. Like, I can still taste the butter and the vinegar all coming nicely together with the one-two punch of the hot sauce. Oh-yeah! The best part is you don't even have to worry about getting your hands dirty because they give away disposable gloves. To be honest, I don't really use it since I am used to working with utensils in dissecting my chicken, but I just think it's rather thoughtful of them. As my personal motto goes: it's the useless stuff that builds character.

The place is the cozy, laid-back with walls covered in beach photos & actual surfboards. The only thing missing is the chill-out or beach house tunes to go with your meal. For first timers, I suggest you order their half pound wings (4-5 pieces) so that you can try more than one flavor. The prices will vary to the flavors you choose. Of couse, you should try their Sunrise Original (Php175, 3.82USD for half pound). If you like it super spicy, go try their Ultimate Crazy Hot (Php245, 5.35USD for half pound). The most popular flavor is the Jack Daniels (Php245, 5.35USD for half pound)! Just imagine crispy wings with the sweetness of Jack Daniel's whiskey. Yum! :D I recommend the Black Peppered (Php175, 3.82USD for half pound) and the Smokin' BBQ (Php165, 3.60USD for half pound). Oh, they also have a wide selection of beers! Head on over with your friends for a chill hang out :)

You can wash those wings down with a selection of different beers, or try their peach house blend iced tea. They've also got some seriously thick milkshakes for the days when you decide to throw your diet out the window. Found on the ground floor of a small commercial center called Madison Place, parking can be difficult so either come early to grab a slot, prepare to wait or order to take your wings home. I like the beach-y vibe of the place, they've got surfing paraphernalia all over the walls and their TVs are almost always showing surfers and gorgeous beaches around the world.

I've been frequenting this place for whenever I'm looking for some good grub right after work. Ever since I started working in Shaw, this was our go-to food destination, and one of the restos we favoured was Buffalo Wings and Things. Fortunately, they built up a new shop in Megamall! I usually go to this branch with my friend who is also madly in love with their wings. They've got a bunch of flavors to choose from but my favorites would be their garlic parmesan and hickory barbeque. We partner them with their signature dirty rice and a glass of their top notch iced tea! What I love about their chicken is the flavors. They don't skimp out on seasoning and are very generous with their sauces. Their dirty rice is also really good. It's got a hint of spice to it and it's garnished with a spoonful of diced tomatoes and onions for added flavour. Yum! They are also known for their ridiculously spicy wings. During one of our food trips, we dared a friend of mine to try out their Armageddon wings. I believe it was the second or third spiciest wings they have. He bawled his eyes out by the time he was on his third wing! CRAZY. We needed to get him a glass of milk to help the hit of spice subside. He survived, don't worry! But that's definite proof they take their spicy buffalo wings seriously.

This branch in particular holds a lot of memories for me as I've had countless chicken dinners here ever since I was a highschool student and that was AGES ago. No matter how much time has passed, their chicken remains the same: crunchy, juicy, that hint of pepper in the gravy and best of all: affordable. For under 150php, you can get a two piece meal and a drink which is definitely a great bargain. Apart from the chicken, the rice is also good. I don't know what they put in it but it isn't plain white rice either. It's flavorful and a perfect accompaniment to the chicken. Kipp's is one of those places I'm glad to see never changes. It definitely holds a candle to KFC. As much as I love the Colonel, Kipp's has a special place in my heart (probably lodged somewhere in my arteries) too.

When we decide that it's the basement food court for lunch, he'd already have his mind made up. I recently found myself ordering at Kipp's Chicken after all these years, this time at the SM Megamall branch. I ordered the 2-piece fried chikcen meal combo with "Spanish rice" that went with a drink of choice (plus 5 pesos if you pick iced tea). My food came in less than 5 minutes, and to my delight, it turns out that things haven't changed much. It was the same old greasy, oily, and tasty chicken that I used to have as a kid. Thanks to inflation, such 2-piece chicken meal now costs 145 pesos, but that's still great value considering the decent serving portions.

Hot Star's XXL fillet really was (almost) as big as my face. Wow. I got the crispy meal (HS2 on the menu), which already came with rice and drink at an affordable price. It reminded me of BonChon's chops ricebox, but this was a whole lot bigger with crunchier skin and juicier meat. I really liked the spice mix they used for the batter because it gave the chicken that distinct Chinese-y flavor and aroma, like if you were in the streets of Taiwan itself. The chicken-to-rice ratio was off though; I ran out of rice halfway through the chicken and needed to order another. Despite that, I finished everything on my plate and it was all so good. Oh, and you have to try their almond and black gulaman soft serve ice cream before you leave! It may look like any normal swirl at first, but it's waaay more interesting than the ol' vanilla and chocolate combo. Clearly, when it comes to crazy good ideas like this, Hot Star shines.

We tried out their original large chicken with rice and their original large fish fillet. Both were equally satisfying in taste and in serving size. Their original flavor tastes very oriental - salty with a kick of spice as an aftertaste. They've also got a special gravy that comes with the meal. Nothing really fancy about it though. And besides, I feel like you can eat their chicken and fish sans the gravy. Overall, Hot Star is a pretty cool alternative to your usual fast food chicken craving. Check it out when you can!

Though the restaurant is not perfect, we truly enjoyed the customer service and how fast the service was. We had our food in minutes! The server also was very accommodating and even assisted my daughter in taking advantage of a free Supercard, birthday treat (which consists of one chicken meal and their famous dips and side of french fries), and was very nice to instruct her on how to claim her free pizza at Shakey's! The food was amazing and we truly enjoyed the chicken and the dips! It was a very enjoyable and one-of-a kind dining experience, indeed! Then just last Sunday, we went to Peri-Peri Charcoal in Festival Mall, Alabang, right after worship service, for lunch and for my son's birthday, expecting the SAME LEVEL OF SERVICE, with what we experienced in Peri-Peri Charcoal SM Southmall. We went in the restaurant, with dirty tables from previous customers, and the restaurant staff doesn't even bother one bit even if they already saw us. We thought maybe they're just busy since it's a Sunday and so we let it pass. Minutes passed but they're still not entertaining us. It feels as if we're not there. If my daughter did not ask for a menu from the staff, we will not start the process of ordering our food! The server just gave us the menu by just tossing it loudly on our tables as if she's mad or we are just a waste of time for them. It's very rude and unprofessional! My daughter also asked for one of tables to be cleaned but they just said that they're understaffed and the person who will clean the table is still not available! What??!! We let it pass since we just came from our worship service and the Pastor preached something about patience! So we just transferred to a "clean" table. It doesn't look clean and definitely doesn't smell clean. It still smell of the food from the previous customer who ate there minus the used plates and the food. They don't sanitize the table after removing the previous customer's plates and utensils. We waited for more than an hour for our food and finally, was served with it, BUT it was not our food! It's the next table's order. Good thing my daughter, who is already starving, did not eat the garlic bread or else it could have been worse! The food was served in a "carinderia" manner. The server did not even include the dips for the chicken, they only told us that it's "self-service"! One of our plates is dirty with still a trace of spaghetti on one of them! Disgusting! One of the pitcher of water on the other table has something floating on it! We saw it with our own eyes, and we want to throw up right then and there! In general, the experience at Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken Festival Mall is VERY FRUSTRATING, IT'S FILTHY and SUCH A WASTE OF MONEY! Your product is food and you should follow strict guidelines when it comes to food handling and service or else you will all lose your customers. Remember, without us, your customers, your diners, you will all not have a business. Please take care of your customers. We are paying for good food and good service to spend time with our families and enjoy a meal. WE DON'T DESERVE THIS KIND OF SERVICE! You can all do better than this!

Walking in on a Saturday night, I half-expected that familiar college-town hum--a low murmur of conversation, sticky tables, and the faint smell of fried dreams. Instead, the place was eerily quiet, like the party wrapped up long before I got the memo. I went for the classics--half a dozen of their Signature Buffalo Spicy and half a dozen Salted Egg Bone-In Wings, with blue cheese sauce riding shotgun. A side of rice (because it's Manila--of course there's rice) and mashed potatoes that... well, we'll get to those in a second. The beer--a cold Honey Ale from a local craft brewer--was the unsung hero of the night. Finally, someone in Manila brewing something that didn't taste like regret and melted ice. The wings? Definitely not bad. Crispy, juicy--like they actually respected the bird. But if you're going to throw your name in the ring for best wings in town, you need to bring more than just competence. The Salted Egg seasoning--Southeast Asia's current golden child--was a heavy, clumsy affair. It coated every inch of the wing like a thick winter jacket. No chili kick, no garlic bite--just a flat, salty blanket that had me checking my pulse halfway through. The Buffalo sauce, their so-called signature, leaned way too sweet--more candied ketchup than the tangy, spicy, vinegary slap you want from proper Buffalo wings. And then there was the blue cheese sauce--if you could even call it that. The kind of stuff that comes squeezed out of a sad little plastic packet, shelf-stable for the next nuclear winter. You know the one--overly loose, weirdly tangy, with about as much real blue cheese as a 7-Eleven hot dog. A sauce like that isn't just disappointing--it's disrespectful. The mashed potatoes were some kind of crime against carbs. Lumpy, under-seasoned, with a pale, plasticky cheese blanket on top that made me wonder what the poor spuds did to deserve this fate. The rice, surprisingly, became the unsung palate cleanser--cutting through the heaviness and giving the meal at least some rhythm. Service was the kind that leaves you alone--sometimes a little too alone. You had to flag someone down like you were hailing a cab in the rain. Look--Frankie's isn't a bad joint. If you're already three beers deep and need something fried to keep you vertical, they'll do the job. But for an avid wing eater--someone who's chased those little fried miracles across NYC--this was just another forgettable night. And when it comes to wings, forgettable is the worst sin of all.
