The Long Version: On a previous trip to Montreal, my husband and I walked by Danbi on our last day in the city, so I made a note to return on a future visit, and so we did. We got the Danbi Chicken Wrap ($11.50), Crispy Chicken Bites ($14.99) and added fries for an additional $2. The food came out pretty quickly and everything was delicious! The fried chicken bites were crunchy on the outside and the dark meat on the inside was moist and tender. I usually prefer white meat, but the dark meat here wasn't fatty or gristly so I enjoyed it. The sauce came on the side. I had asked the staff there what the Danbi sauce was and she described it as a sweet sauce with a touch of teriyaki flavour. We went with the traditional Yangnyeom sauce, but she ended up giving us both so we could try the Danbi sauce. How nice is that? And I enjoyed both sauces! The accompanying fries were also excellent. They were piping hot and very crispy. They were regular cut fries with a bit of seasoning on them. The Chicken Wrap was also fantastic and very photogenic with all the colourful ingredients. The vegetables in it allowed us to feel more virtuous as we weren't just eating starch and meat. Lol. The wrap had delicious fried chicken bites in it, along with lettuce, cabbage, carrots and I think some sort of pickled vegetable. The tortilla wrap was fresh and soft. We really enjoyed the wrap. The staff working there was really sweet. She answered all my questions and ensured our meal had no sesame seeds in it, like I requested. She brought us water and also small plates so we could share all the items. The place is whimsically decorated (see my pictures) and small. The only seating is bar seating facing the wall for about 6-8 people. You order and pay at the kiosk, but the staff member is available to answer any questions or take special requests. Staff bring out the food as it's ready. We got our fried chicken bites first, then the wrap, then the fries. We were fine with this so we could start eating quicker, lol, and everything arrived at our table piping hot. Everything is served in takeout containers, but it's cardboard, so relatively environmentally friendly. It's mostly a takeout joint. I would definitely recommend Danbi for a quick casual meal. I got the fried chicken combo ($16.99) and my husband got the beef combo ($16.99). We requested no sesame seeds for our food and they accommodated by not sprinkling sesame seeds on the rice, japchae or beef, but they forgot that one of the fried chicken sauces has sesame seeds in it, so I had to give my husband that piece. We were going to share anyway, so it wasn't a big deal for me. The Fried Chicken Combo came with 3 pieces of fried chicken, each one a different flavour: original, sweet and spicy, and soy garlic. The sweet and spicy sauce has sesame seeds in it. Since I can't eat sesame seeds but can tolerate slight contamination, I didn't bring it up and just gave that piece to my husband. Although in retrospect I should have alerted them for them to be more aware for someone else who might have a more severe issue. Both combos came with japchae, rice, 2 dumplings, and coleslaw. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. It was great. I liked both the original and the soy garlic. Hubby liked the sweet and spicy. The beef was tender and flavourful. And I liked that it was lean meat and not gristly. The dumplings were deep-fried and had pork and vegetables in it. The rice was nicely steamed and slightly sticky which I liked. The japchae was flavourful and had shiitake mushrooms, carrots, bell peppers and onions in it. It was little too oily for my preference, but I still enjoyed it. The combos also came with a can of soda or a bottle of water. My husband got a Coca Cola and I got a bottle of water, which I took to go to drink during my shopping adventures after lunch, since we were given tap water with our meal. Service was courteous and efficient. Lots of indoor seating with televisions playing K-pop music videos in the dining room. During that time so many customers came and left as there was no one at the front desk to help or take orders. Those that showed up and waited, had to wait longer. Luckily for me, my order came out just around the 30 minute mark. I took the food and left for my hotel. I open it up in excitement and see something completely different than advertised. The chicken is orange colored instead of red. There were no rice noodles either. I brought it alll the way back to the restaurant and told them they gave me the wrong order. The guy (African American kid) says no this is the correct order. He proceeds to say they always make it like this in this color and sauce. I showed him their own pictures in the restaurant and their yelp pictures too. They insisted this was the right order. I even pointed out my order is not only orange, there is no rice cakes. He then tells me there are no rice cakes in the whole restaurant right now and that it's only 4 pieces. Like, what kind of attitude is that? I paid a premium price and waited 30 minutes. You could've been more empathetic and understanding. My order looks nothing like their own advertisement. They should've told me there are no rice cakes too. Do not go here if you want what is advertised and value good service. They have false advertisement and act shady about the order and what you get. They are just kids trying to get through their day. I should've just went somewhere else. What a disappointment. Shame on the business for not giving a damn about their customers. The restaurant has 2 tiny round tables with no chairs. They also sell Korean style corn dogs. I feel bad for whomever invested in creating this business as their service and food is leaving such a bad impression on their brand.

We shared a 4 pieces chicken tenders combo ($18) which came with waffle fries and a canned drink (we got a Fuse iced tea). The chicken tenders were a good size and were lean chicken breast meat. I don't know how they do it but the outside was so crispy and crunchy and the inside was moist and tender. Definitely in the top 5 chicken tenders I've ever had. The waffle fries were great too. Waffle fries are so underrated, lol. The meal came with 2 Cali sauces, which I would describe as a creamy chipotle sauce. Service was pleasant. You order and pay at the kiosk and they ask you to enter your name. They call out your name when your order is ready. There is a bit of a wait since they fry your chicken to order, but it's so worth it. The building has 3 fast-food style eateries. Totopo Tacos is on the same floor as Cali and Sama Sushi is on the lower floor. Totopo Tacos and Cali share the same dining area.
